Ive been through anxiety for this couple of months. One of my friend advised me to stay away from social media, so i deleted my fb etc. and it helps a lot. Having a simple life without media is a good thing
Me too.. I reduce the social media connection. I have deleted my FB account too. Now I feel more peaceful. And the most important things is I quit form my job which make me so stress and went back to my home town to look after my dad. I feel great now. I am close to the nature, no more city life.
Stress is a silent killer, I feel like in our society we glorify people who are productive and never stop working and running around but we forget that all this pressure puts a toll on our relationships with others and our overall well being. 🙁

Thats why in my opinion people should experiment living with both lifestyles for a while and then decide after which one is mostly them or can mostly relate to. You find sometimes when rich or material wealthy people get old they sometimes scale down to more simple living probably because they realize that they will soon be leaving this earth and all those materials things they had are not really that important anymore ... You find people living in poor situations want to get out of it because of being uneducated, because simple living in those cases mean less money which means less opportunities especially for a rounded education etc which then begets crime and other negativity which creates an unwholesome environment to live in and they want to get out of that but poor EDUCATED (and by educated I mean to correct things of course, cause u can be educated to anything) people may create a different environment to live in similar to how these people are living....

This comment and the replies gives me hope in people! I've thought this way for a long time, and always felt like I was weird. I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and was told not to, as I wouldn't make much money. Unfortunately, I listened and pursued a career in nursing, which has made me miserable. I'm finally going back to college to get my teaching degree and am making a simpler life!

leloodallasmultipass actually he says that he still works as a part time GP. so he didn't abandon it completely. he just left the bustle of it all. the competitive environment that might have pushed him to have such a high stress life. and it's what he feels is the best for himself. not to mention he's not whittling the rest of his days doing nothing. he seems to have a fair share of work he needs to do on the land and that's just as beneficial to the community. not saying EVERY ONE should do this. I think that'd be disastrous. but the guy felt like he needed to take a step back and change a few things in order to better manage both himself and his family and he found a way to do so that still kept them connected to the community while happy and well looked after and I find that admirable in of itself

@Sarah Basto Youre just as lost as us westerners if you feel that way. Those "developing" countries are being destroyed by the consumerism mindset destroying beautiful land killing our earth. The reason we're impressed by this sort of living is because the earth is dying rapidly. Theyre "brave" because they are opposing our governments by living like this, as should everyone. We have severed our connection with the land and the majority are paying for it.
I lived like this for many years and what you wife says about a small home and a baby is totally true, when your home is cosy and womblike with nothing unnecessary things start to become joyful and genuine and stress free, lovely, how kind of you to inspire other people to take this wonderful path through life :)

@Margaret Gust what do you mean? 12 months is a minimum by the most conservative standards for good health for Mom and baby. A 10 month old can't be given cows milk yet so is she supposed to go from breastfeeding to formula? That isn't logical or natural since formula is a relatively new invention for humans. The world health org recommends a min of 2 yrs breastfeeding. 10 months is a drop in the bucket, still a baby in diapers who doesn't really talk or maybe even walk yet.
Kelberi it is a great thing to do but if everyone does, you might wake up to the world with no doctors, law enforcement nor engineers. humans got this way for a reason, we just learned that it's easier to live when each of us specialises in one thing, instead od everyone doing everything on their own

okay how do you imagine getting education? who would regulate that? where would people learn and how would we know they're competent? where would you get buildings from? where would you get clothing from? you'd make it yourself? what about getting from one place to another? Not really - do you know how many people live in china? Or in a big city like New York? Not everyone can live a bourgeois farm life - there simply isn't room for everyone to have an acre or two of yuppie farm land, and if there was there wouldn't be and forests or open spaces not occupied by roads and people. It's a nice dream but cities and population density are actually what's saving the forrests and leaving undeveloped space. It's a great fantasy but if we all lived this way the forrests abd evo systems would be devastated. I know that's hard for yuppie hippies to understand but it's a privlege to have nature around and not realistic to think that we can all have it except if we green cities.

I think you all are doing great, my wife and I with our two young children live exactly like you do, we love it, it was tough at first untill we got the hang of things, it took a few months, we came from the city also and now wouldn't have it any other way, god bless your journey.
I recently had a similar realisation, in terms of the whole, 'Most of my money goes to rent/bills." So I started looking into house sitting as I'm a student in the city and there's actually quite a lot of people who want their pets to be looked after when they're away.
love this! key thing here is the demeanor , attitude and most of all full bodied spirit of these people. That is what works, and where the true joy is.

He has blood poisoning from a cut that got infected because he did not get proper medical attention. living off the grid...lol

My co workers laughed at me heir when I downsized my living space to a tiny condo. Then soon by the end of January my son will moving in...to go back University. These people are smart , the reasons to avoid stresses ,depressions, high bloodpressure ,burn out and other complications. I wish have the courage and strong enough to live like this...maybe, hope when retired.
I really loved this. I’m working toward this with my partner, we’re saving money and we actually already have land which is a miracle. My son is so excited and we have a friend who knows all the rules/regulations in the area because they’ve already done the same thing. It’s exciting, and I’m so happy for this family. He’s absolutely right, it is the blueprint, we need simpler lives and the more “primitive” we go back the happier we are I’ve noticed in other people as well as myself.

What an awesome family! Life is a miracle and so precious. It is sad that most of us are conditioned to be 'someone' and achieve 'something' from a young age, ie, making lots of money, living in big mansions, and we constantly compare ourselves to other people. That's one of the reasons for housing bubbles around the world, especially now in New Zealand, property speculators only think about money, how to make money out of other people's life essentials, such as housing, it is truly disgusting. I hope more and more people wake up and realize there are alternative ways of living, such as in this video clip. There's no point to spend over 60% of our earning on expensive rent or mortgages, we only live once after all. Happiness and Health are the most important. :-)

ive been walking to work.. lately.. and instantly feel more connected and grounded with in a truth of who i am in this big world and i its ok.... i am also getting out of debt.. and i spend very little money .. i pick up more trash on the road on my walk to work than i do make in a week and i dont even venture off the sidewalk
The hardest part is finding a partner who is willing to live like this and enjoy this in the long term and not just the novelty of it.

This comment and the replies gives me hope in people! I've thought this way for a long time, and always felt like I was weird. I wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and was told not to, as I wouldn't make much money. Unfortunately, I listened and pursued a career in nursing, which has made me miserable. I'm finally going back to college to get my teaching degree and am making a simpler life!

leloodallasmultipass actually he says that he still works as a part time GP. so he didn't abandon it completely. he just left the bustle of it all. the competitive environment that might have pushed him to have such a high stress life. and it's what he feels is the best for himself. not to mention he's not whittling the rest of his days doing nothing. he seems to have a fair share of work he needs to do on the land and that's just as beneficial to the community.
not saying EVERY ONE should do this. I think that'd be disastrous. but the guy felt like he needed to take a step back and change a few things in order to better manage both himself and his family and he found a way to do so that still kept them connected to the community while happy and well looked after and I find that admirable in of itself

@Sarah Basto Youre just as lost as us westerners if you feel that way. Those "developing" countries are being destroyed by the consumerism mindset destroying beautiful land killing our earth. The reason we're impressed by this sort of living is because the earth is dying rapidly. Theyre "brave" because they are opposing our governments by living like this, as should everyone. We have severed our connection with the land and the majority are paying for it.
Also buy second hand if you really need something
There's one rule that I follow: Buy when you "need" something, not when you "want" it.
Land is really very expensive in my country.
I lived like this for many years and what you wife says about a small home and a baby is totally true, when your home is cosy and womblike with nothing unnecessary things start to become joyful and genuine and stress free, lovely, how kind of you to inspire other people to take this wonderful path through life :)

@Margaret Gust what do you mean? 12 months is a minimum by the most conservative standards for good health for Mom and baby. A 10 month old can't be given cows milk yet so is she supposed to go from breastfeeding to formula? That isn't logical or natural since formula is a relatively new invention for humans. The world health org recommends a min of 2 yrs breastfeeding. 10 months is a drop in the bucket, still a baby in diapers who doesn't really talk or maybe even walk yet.

doctors would be around, Tom is a part time GP after all. Hopefully he and other doctors will stop doling out pills and teach patients that their food is their medicine and they, not any doctor is accountable for their own health. And people living so intentionally tend to be calmer. There will be part time internet connection workers keeping us pretty well connected to all the world's knowledge, so less stress...

okay how do you imagine getting education? who would regulate that? where would people learn and how would we know they're competent? where would you get buildings from? where would you get clothing from? you'd make it yourself?
what about getting from one place to another? I'm sure you wanna just walk to a place 300km away. cars need to be made by someone you know? not to mention planes or ambulances. speaking of which, health system. it's a complicated thing and believe me, it's not so easy to organise.

Not really - do you know how many people live in china? Or in a big city like New York? Not everyone can live a bourgeois farm life - there simply isn't room for everyone to have an acre or two of yuppie farm land, and if there was there wouldn't be and forests or open spaces not occupied by roads and people. It's a nice dream but cities and population density are actually what's saving the forrests and leaving undeveloped space. It's a great fantasy but if we all lived this way the forrests abd evo systems would be devastated. I know that's hard for yuppie hippies to understand but it's a privlege to have nature around and not realistic to think that we can all have it except if we green cities.

@@Rubarb84 thats cause the roof caved in because of snow build up and the kid got hives and the wife stunk so bad because she didn't have a bath for 4 months in the winter so he threw her out. He has blood poisoning from a cut that got infected because he did not get proper medical attention. living off the grid...lol

Happen to stumble this video while searching on how its like living off the grid...Are you still living like this today ? Im 61 yrs works fulltime in health care too but not a GP. My co workers laughed at me heir when I downsized my living space to a tiny condo. Then soon by the end of January my son will moving in...to go back University. He has already given up job and a condo which most normal people never do these days but I supporting him... Greetings from Sweden.
These people are smart , the reasons to avoid stresses ,depressions, high bloodpressure ,burn out and other complications. I wish have the courage and strong enough to live like this...maybe, hope when retired.

I really loved this. I’m working toward this with my partner, we’re saving money and we actually already have land which is a miracle. My son is so excited and we have a friend who knows all the rules/regulations in the area because they’ve already done the same thing. It’s exciting, and I’m so happy for this family. He’s absolutely right, it is the blueprint, we need simpler lives and the more “primitive” we go back the happier we are I’ve noticed in other people as well as myself.

What an awesome family! Life is a miracle and so precious. It is sad that most of us are conditioned to be 'someone' and achieve 'something' from a young age, ie, making lots of money, living in big mansions, and we constantly compare ourselves to other people. That's one of the reasons for housing bubbles around the world, especially now in New Zealand, property speculators only think about money, how to make money out of other people's life essentials, such as housing, it is truly disgusting. I hope more and more people wake up and realize there are alternative ways of living, such as in this video clip. There's no point to spend over 60% of our earning on expensive rent or mortgages, we only live once after all. Happiness and Health are the most important. :-)

ive been walking to work.. lately.. and instantly feel more connected and grounded with in a truth of who i am in this big world and i its ok.... i am also getting out of debt.. and i spend very little money .. i pick up more trash on the road on my walk to work than i do make in a week and i dont even venture off the sidewalk
