I find that it lays better by using an extended double crochet on the stitch that drops below.

What row would you advise if I want to do a yarn colour change? I really like this pattern!!
in theory, if i wanted the brick effect to appear wider would i be able to go with 5 plus any multiple of four?
I would place 5 dcs in between each [dc in flo 2 rows down] instead of the 3 done here. As long as it is an odd number and is centered each time. Hope that helps!
