    A buying-guide for hand-grinders might be valuable.
    Thank you.

I agree! If I could get my hands on a bunch to try that'd be an awesome resource for people. Maybe that can be possible sometime in the future. Thanks for the comment 🙏

Living in the 'burbs with just supermarket beans I just use an old spice grinder with a long steep French press and the coffee's OK. There was a shop about 2 miles away that had perhaps fresher beans but they were v.expensive and I think it was closed by covid.

I always default to taste. If the coffee you make tastes the way you like, then more power to you. However, the nitty gritty of the eternal coffee rabbit hole will always have just one more thing for you to try or buy to better your cup. I say, just do what makes you happy, but if you feel like taking the plunge, a proper grinder and fresh specialty graded beans are the first steps I'd recommend.

@@davidsargentcoffee Thanks for your swift reply. Despite a co morb I will check to see if the shop is still open. There is a famous shop in central London that does both high end coffee and tea bulbs called the Algerian coffee house and they do mail order and I used to go there when I lived nearby, so you have piqued my interest in a hand grinder at least. Cheap s/market beans need a long steep in a french press and are never fresh so this acme method of a spice grinder at 13-14 seconds does the job OK. Mega buck coffee machines also need fresh beans so are not a daily option. I used to make coffee in a pro machine in a coffee house/restaurant when much younger, way before Starbucks etc, and in the reign of the wine bar but I had no interest in coffee back then, so the rabbit hole eluded me and my bank manager. Well, at least I started at the top. I was never a barrista but the customers liked my brews.

I'm sure there's an option for you to find them online and have beans shipped to you, though I'm sure the extra cost to ship won't always be friendly. A hand grinder is a great way to go get started. You can get a quality burr set for little money and you won't be incentivized to grind all your beans too quickly haha

@@davidsargentcoffee It's not that bad, I just don't feel like cycling 20 miles round trip with a mask on. When I get through my current beans I may place an order. Is it hard work hand grinding and how long does it take please?

@@sandydennylives1392 Not too bad - If you're in the range of 15-20 gram single serve brews and that satisfies you for a good bit, then you're in for about a 3-4 minute grind time depending on the grinder and your speed. I wouldn't recommend it if you're grinding like 35g or more per brew, though I know some folks who hand grind that amount daily and they're used to it at this point.

I hand grind, it’s my preference most days. I went with the 1Zpresso K Plus. Quite possibly my best purchase to date. I also have a Sette 270wi although it is rather loud. Will be looking at something like the Ode as another option in the near future.

      Damn, that's a hefty hand grinder 😅

As a photographer, I almost equate hand grinding to shooting film. Being that extra level deeper in the process, even though it's so much more work, tends to yield a pretty great reward.

Im chuckling over someone “into” coffee thinking a Ode is a premium grinder. Its oK for drip and pour over but would not even meet the basics of quality espresso. After quality of bean and water - the quality of burr sets is next in line to influence “taste”.

Hey you're absolutely right! My perspective is my own and I totally own that I don't touch on what a quality grinder means to those who lean further into espresso. I'm not here to please everyone and I recognize there's a lot I don't understand, but I make an effort to learn every day and maybe one day I'll be a resource for folks in the more advanced areas of espresso. Cheers!

Amen to not wanting to hand grind 30-60g a day. ☠☠☠ Can confirm it is a rough time.

Stoked for the travel stuff. Don't be afraid to push yourself on some cinematic sequences. I'd love to see what happens when your photography eye opens up to travel video. Ace video. 🤙
