    Just put a cookie sheet in the oven then out the pan above it close the door and select oven clean let it run it course let cool in the oven. Then just brush the stuff off, wash with water and soap dry right away then start your seasoning. I usually do about 3 or 4 then I start cooking biscuits. By three bus units my cast irons are black and non stick.

    My dad was from Kingstree, SC. We live in Central Florida, he would get the green peanuts by the bushel, when friends traveled where you could get the good ones. And spent all day boiling them. Just grab a ziplock out of the freezer warm them up. So good. He passed away in 2014, I've made them, not near as good as his was. I remember when my 2 brothers, sister and I took the final bag from the freezer and shared dad boiled peanuts. It was a whole thing.😔 After watching this I'm craving his badly rn.

    I've been cleaning and using cast iron for years. For One that crusted, I would burn it off. Backyard fire pit. Have your fire, roast some marshmallows. Bury the pan inside the hot coals. Add a little more wood on top. Then leave it completely alone until its cold. Then wash it, and season it. Large emblem #3 Griswold. Nice find.

    • @beardedthriftmachine

      excellent idea - ( this might be a dumb question) but when you wash it that is just was water right

    • @Alritythen
      @Alritythen 11 місяців тому

      @@beardedthriftmachine i use soap, but some will disagree. But onxe you burn off the yuck, completely scrub it down with hot soap and water and a scrub pad. Then drying. And then season it-seasoning is another story. After seasoning, use soap sparingly. I wipe mine out most of the time with a paper towel. My mom used to yell at me ad a kid "don't soak the skillet!". Soaking, which usually included soapy water, will remove the seasoning and then everything sticks.
