  • This video will demonstrate how to rig the 6 bar mechanism use as a hinge. mechanism also consist the spring system. but we use the piston cylinder instead of that. full video of process is below.

0:47 The base bone is also called control bone but I appreciate simplifying the process of rigging this type of hinge that's pretty common in many products.

Yes, you are right, we can make base and control bone same, but I like to separate it and make base bone as a parent off all bone.

Excellent, thanks! I want to grab the red piece and move the whole mechanism, is it possible?

@@polzol2 Correct me if I'm wrong, but is your question about moving the last link (both opening and closing links) to shift the entire mechanism? As far as I know, we can't do that because we don't know the exact path of the bone (link). We can move in any direction, but the child links (mechanism) behaves unpredictably. Currently, I've selected a control link that can drive the whole mechanism because it has only one degree of freedom, making it easier to control. If you create this assembly in CAD software like SolidWorks or Fusion, you can achieve this using constraints or mates. You can move the last link, and the entire mechanism will move as desired. However, in Blender, I don't think we can do this without specifying a path for the bone. I hope this clarifies things for you
