To put a finer point on it, both in Islam and in Judaism, there is a religious imperative to bury the body as soon as possible. No embalming or display or holding the body in the freezer until preparations are ready. If someone dies, wash them, wrap them, and get 'em in the ground asap. There isn't even a coffin, just cloth. So, preventing someone from burying their dead is particularly cruel as it _also_ prevents them from observing their religious duties to that person. On top of all the typical cruelties associated.

I was staunchly pro Israel until the start of this war. Films like Yossi & Jagger and others in the early aughts were extremely formative in propagandizing me into thinking that, as a young / closeted man with a congressional appointment to the Air Force Academy, “if only I was Jewish or were born in Israel, I could live in a country where gays are able to serve in the military without stupid laws like ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ painting a perpetual target on my back”. I even started going to Messianic temple and studying Rabbinical Midrash because I saw within the Jewish community so much more acceptance than that of their Christian counterparts who I felt would shun me if I were to ever come out. I even bought into Israeli propaganda about Palestine (Yossi and Jagger ended with a Palestinian kid killing the film’s deuteragonist in a bus bombing, which, since I identified with the relationship of the main characters, themselves being soldiers in a gay relationship in the military, really stuck with me; I can still even see that Palestinian kids face).
Now I see Israel for what it is. An evil apartheid state who is willing to lie by any means necessary to control / murder an oppressed population. I still will always identify with Jews and see them as my brothers in arms (gays, after all, were also victims of the Holocaust and are, like Jews, still victims of right wing extremists; we need to stick to together). That said, it infuriates me that anti-Zionism and antisemitism are being equated by governments like Israel and their proxies. The last thing I will tolerate being called is an antisemite. I have been told by some of my Jewish friends that I am more Jewish than they could ever wish to be, even though I was born and raised Catholic, because they know how much I have studied their history and read and intimately appreciated their philosophy. They know I could never tolerate an antisemitic thought pass through my brain. Yet the ADL and these pro Israel thought police would claim I’m an antisemite?!
Israel made a big mistake with this war because it brought a huge amount of scrutiny to their actions over the preceding 75 years. They have permanently lost a lifelong pro Israel supporter and I know I’m not the only one. I am glad to say I have not met a Jew among my friends who has sided with Israel. The only I have seen side with Israel in this conflict in my area are the Evangelical Christians who, according to their warped eschatology, believe Israel needs to exist as a state to bring about Christian end times, which also just so happens will annihilate the Jews?! With friends like that, eh Israel? But even more so the Democratic Party is making a mistake in my own country as I will never again see them as being on the right side of history. Neither too the Republicans, mind, but it makes me very disappointed and disillusions me to vote blue in the upcoming election.

People should watch the free documentary 'Visit Palestine', it's about a humanitarians visit to the West Bank in 2002 during the second intifada. She literally stands in front of an IDF tank, she walks girls to school to keep them safe, even at one point getting shot in the leg by the IDF for protecting the Palestinians. She talks about how one of the best ways to delegitimize the 0ccupation is to show the humanity of the Palestinians.
