This camera is great!! I use it for all my videos as well, and it’s a super way to watch your own vids and improve technique - for me at least. And Thank You for all your instructional videos - I have leaned a ton from you. Appreciate your attention to detail and clear instruction. It make a huge difference.
one of the best reviews i've seen. thanks!
I've been thinking of getting either the Gopro Max or the Insta360 and you got me sold on the Insta360!! Thank you for the review and how the editing works!
The insta 360 is way easier to use than the max, and the app experience is far better too!
Just bought the device through your link - couldn't resist buying 🙂
Awesome review, I'm sad it's the end of the season now and can't wait for the next one! Will buy this cam for sure!
I have no idea about cameras but the sound of you snowboarding reminds me of the icecoast not only is Malcolm the best he has the coolest equipment
Great review and explanation of the camera! With the long view, I would love to see you use it to explain the line you may take in powder. Especially in where it might be too flat on some sections so you need to pickup some speed ahead of time.
me and my friend was literally talking about this cam yesterday and now boom!
Absolutely awesome!
Great video and thank you for posting it, extremely helpful!
Thx. One of the best Tutorials for this cam! I have now a X3 but the hacks are the same. 👍
Thanks! Actually have a new video about the X3 coming out this week!
You are the best mate !
Great Video Malcolm, an impressive camera with so much freedom
✌
Excellent review. I wish I would have held off on buying a Gopro Hero 10. It's a fine camera but this is more suited to what I'm looking for in an action camera. Plus you don't lose footage due to cold. It happened to me one very cold day this season.
love ur doggy❤
awesome video too👍
I'm looking at getting one of these soon before my Japow snowboard trip in Feb and I cannot waaaaait to have some fun with this thing while snowboarding!
Check out the upgrade here!
ua-cam.com/video/2fVopj6HC0Y/v-deo.html
Haha this is a nifty camera. I put it on my helmet with a detachable mount. My camera popped off when I bit it yesterday and caught me tumbling and kissing the snow. 🤣
Great review! I have the first version of the One X, and like you find it great capturing everything without having to worry about needing to point the camera. The only slight downside is that the video quality isn't as good as my GoPro Hero 7 Black, but that is more than made up with the awesome invisible selfie stick!
Yeah thats true!
Great review 👍👍👍
I got one this season to see how I board so I can improve my riding (and for insta and yt clips ha..). I'm VERY happy with it, though getting it started up was a bit of a pain. But besides that, worth the price tag imo!
Great review. Debating right now if I should get one....
Not just cool but really cool! I was wondering about witch one from GoPro 10 or Insta360 is better, because I'm planning of buying an action cam before the winter season and after this video I'm more into the insta360 (before I was for the GoPro because it's the preferred camera for shooting the Natural Selection Tour and other reasons). I know that both have their advantages and disadvantages but luckily I found your video to answer a lot of my questions. Looks really handy and easy to edit too. Many thanx for sharing this video, Malcolm!
awesome video! gotta get me one of those.. 🤙
I'm pretty excited!I just ordered my X3 and it will be here in few days. I will be using it for my upcoming ski trip. My biggest worry is about the lenses. I'm not fan of the lens guard because it blurs the image and get foggy in the cold. From your experience, do they get scratched if the camera falls in the snow? Thanks for the video
Bloody awesome
You know what would be a wicked video and sorry if I missed something similar previously but one on understanding conditions from weather forecasts and snow reports before heading to the mtn if possible. I’m just learning and trying to decipher whether to embark on the expensive and timely journey when it’s kinda those spring conditions with little to zero recent snowfall, are those trips worth it? I could call the mtn and ask but it might be nice to have a good sense of judgement on my own if possible depending on forecasts. And how do these different conditions affect your learning? Should you be pushing yourself in all terrain or holding out for less icy days in your first season? Packed groom vs slush vs ice… I’d find that super helpful! I’m in BC Canada so probably a little spoiled for snow and maybe a tad too picky haha.
Also, when you’re at the mtn and you’re about to get started what are the telltale signs of ice without falling to find out haha?
Any info on conditions and learning would be amazing! Then even as you progress is it worth avoiding certain days? Thanks again, love your content!!!
Just picked up the new X3. Going to be quite a bit of a learning curve with this guy I think compared to my GoPro.
So much that we can't do with the normal go pro hero cams, this is tempting!
This Camera has been on my Wish List for ages now... Just watching this has made me want it even more... Another great Video Malcolm. One question though, with the Unicorn attachment did it make your head feel of balance etc ?
Hope your well
I used that too and yes it slightly make your head forward abit so it's a good neck workout😂
i got this camera) thats crazy in freeride
Saw you few days ago on the slope, huge respect for what you do man 💪
🙌
I was lucky enough to win the competition to have discount off one of these bad boys and I think it's fantastic.
Thanks for your video. Just wondering what wireless mic do you use on insta 360. How to hide accessories which connects to the camera. Much appreciated
Love the video. just wondering what mic you are using and how you are connecting it to the camera?
I bought a cheapo camera, the Akaso, and it's decent enough. But good point on having nothing to worry about missing shots with a 360 camera. I always fall down or get stuck in flat areas when I try to film because I'm more conscious about where there camera is pointing than looking at where I'm going. I just don't know if the cost is justified for me that I don't really use it that much, just take some videos as souvenirs from the once or twice a year trips to other resorts.
hey dude, I did buy it via your link, don't know if it worked cuz I had to close it and reopen it to change the country, but yeah I hope it worked. Thanks for all the videos tutorials and everything, I also made a small channel and I'm goin to be recording my progress with the Insta360 one x2, dope cam man. I know it exists because of you, thanks again!
Awesome, I'm actually just making a video right now on how to analyse your own riding from insta360 footage 😀
@@malcolmmoore once done, link it in here, i would prolly need to watch that
Hey Malcolm, I've seen some videos where the viewer can look around the entire 360 view simply by moving their phone around or by using their fingers to swipe the viewing area. I would love a video of the tunnel run in that mode.
Ah yeah, you can do that with this too!
I have the Insta360 One R that is the modular one, got gopro type lens and the 360 one, both are amazing but for snowboarding way better the 360 to get and make more.
excellent review, mate! Also, what mountain is that? super dog friendly!
Alpe d'Huez in France 🇫🇷🙌
somewhere in the comment section asked about audio. I am wondering how your voice is pretty clear and still have the background noise at a good level, is it in the editing software by chance or are you using a mic?
Also, after watching this, just bought one and received the free selfie stick from your link, can't wait to try it out when I finally receive it!
Hey! Nice review! I have a question. How to avoid image being warped with this camera? I mean a warp like you could see at 0:52 on the cables of the lift.
You can change the fov to be more or less warped. On just the one pole I kept it more as a fisheye, but the longer you get the camera away from whatever you're shooting the more you'll be able to punch in and remove that fisheye effect 👍
Hi Malcom, Ive been working through almost all your vids - amazing stuff. In many of your tutorials for beginners you talk about the weight shift of crossing the hips over the board midline to initiate turns. Looking at the last bit of footage in this vid makes this a little clearer (unicorn cam) but I wonder if you could put the cam somehow on your hips to really demonstrate this? Just wondering - probably be a nightmare lol. keep gringing man - you are going to blow up soon (metaphorically, not literally)
Unicorn mount topped with camera sticking out from Malcolm's hips. I'd like to see the faces of people that he'd ride by.
@@mateuszkrause 🤣🤣🤣
Unicorn mount tacked to the nose of the board (maybe thee sugtion cap car mount works?) should do the trick in this case, probably even better to see the body moving relative to the board.
@@elho001 Now that is a much better idea!
@@mateuszkrause since insta360 captures everything hopefully there'll ba a separate video of that
i like it, what mic are you using pls
Great video ! What is the desktop app you are working with ? By default this camera is only for smartphone app.
There's a free desktop app too, you can download it for free from the insta360 website 👍
Brilliant and very informative. Thank you for sharing. One question about editing. I am told that it a steep learning curve to learn the software to start with but once you get going it is easier. How did you find it when you first started? I have had GoPro's for a number of years and am thinking of getting this action camera. It is now a Insta 360 X3. Thank you
Way easier to use now, if you check out my more recent review of the newer X3 you'll see its pretty simple. Plus the link on that video will have the better deal!
omg you are the best from where can i buy pole 1 and 2 to stick them togeher as u did??
It's just 2 of the standard poles, but they do also actually just make a longer one, link in video description 👍
Great! Now can you tell something about recording audio?
I’d also like to know how you’re recording audio? You’re doing it quite well.
Did you figure it out? Audio looks pretty cool
He’s for sure using a lav mic. Either a wireless rode lav, a zoom F2 or a tascam DR-10L is my guess
Sorry guys missed this thread, yeah I'm using a rode lav mic with zoom f2 👍
The zoom f2 is a gamechanger for me, the 32bit float audio is great, I don't really understand it but I used to have to set the gain to my voice, whereas now I just hit record and then punch up the gain in post, simple!
What do you think about small and big binding disks? Is there a difference?
Hi Malcolm, does it support VR recording? I watched one video of snowboarding in VR. It's unbelievably amazing!
It's doable but for decent VR you want better resolution which at the minute you won't find on a camera this size
Great video! Would you share how did you capture the audio?🤔 I'm sure it is not from the Insta360 camera...🧐
Rode lav mic 🎤
Can you do video on how to get better riding tight turns like tree or hard mogul?
Omg this is awesome. I eas gonna buy a go pro untill a friend said hold up
Haha, they have a new X3 camera that I just reviewed here too:
ua-cam.com/video/2fVopj6HC0Y/v-deo.html
Thanks for that. How did you record the audio for this video? While you are snowboarding
Rode lavalier mic 👍
Hey Malcolm! Can you do a video about sizing snowboard? I noticed in one of your videos that your snowboard is below your chin. Thank you!
@2:09 this camera is capturing everything around me. Like Indy digging a hole to China.
How about the storage usage? For the whole footage, how much gb did it consume?
Are you using the built in mic or a separate one? If, so which one?
How do you get your videos to be so good?. Ive been having problems with the stitching , im using the lense guards, could this be the problem ?? Without them i will definitely break the lenses , while doing Forrest runs !!
Yeah maybe that's why, I've never used the lens guards!
How'd you get that hands-free helmet attachment? Is on by adhesive?
Can this video easily import into your phone for editing? I use an app on my phone. Also, can it film in vertical mode for reels?
Maybe I need to get one of these cameras that are designed for winter sports. I tried to film using a cheaper end product and it shut itself off while filming. The camera was frozen. Lesson learned again. Don't get cheap stuffs. 😦
Hi Malcolm, arriving next few days in ADH, which slopes are in the best conditions? Which would you recommend? I've heard the temps made the lower slopes suffer in quality.
It's re freezing every night, and then the lower south facing slopes soften up first, around 10.30 today, and then the higher slopes follow soon after basically!
is the tone frome the camera or from an external Micro
As a hobby photographer, I do know how ultra wide angle makes the steeps look much flatter, but the tunnel never looked as easy as in this video... 😜 🤡
Besides being small and tiny, the other advantage is that being not extremely expensive, its much easier to use/carry with piece of mind.
While the weight of a camera backpack does become annoying once it makes getting up from a sitting position hard or impossible and you end up rolling around onto your knees to get up like a beginner again, I find the biggest limitation is that you do ride way more careful and slow as you never ever want to fall and possibly cause harm all that equipment in the backpack...
What would be cool is to have/make something like the unicorn mount attach to a backpack or some sort of shoulder harness or the front of ones board, to get that camera in front look of holding the stick without having to hold it and with the hands free to use in some tricks or to wave around in the quest to maintain balance in some wonky moguls. 😉
Ultimate dream still remains that completely autonomous flying drone follow-cam that keeps tracking you while dodging obstacles etc. all on its own - one day technology gonna be there. 🤔
It’s called the Skydio! I have one
Hey Malcom, been following for a while now, I recently got myself the same camera but after recording, I noticed that my video has 2 different shades and I’m wondering if you’ve ever come across that issue, if so I’d like to know how you resolved it. Thanks!
A little bit, actually you can see it in some of these clips, it's usually from a little bit of grease on one of the lenses, just keep them clean and you should be fine!
Would you recommend this camera for beginners who are learning and want to improve their riding by looking at what they or doing, or do you think it would get in the way and distract too much?
It'll get in the way just practice until it feels clean cuzz it probably is clean if it feels clean
This might be better. I bought a cheapo Akaso camera but the angle isn't good and I find myself getting into more trouble using it because I'm looking more at the camera than where I'm going. With the insta360, you capture everything so you're not worried if you're holding it at the right angle. Of course there's still that issue of having to hold something while you snowboard, but at least it's one thing off your mind if you're getting a good shot or not.
Hey, did you have to do any color grading on these videos? I see no mention of it!
Nah nothing 👍
hello Malcom do you use lens protectors ?
Nah I don't bother!
The stick itslef looks sturdy. Can you point out the exact model?
120cm invisible selfie stick 👍
bro do u using extra mic for it? ur voice coming amazing???? and ur videos better than x3 wideos how?=?? x2 better 360 than x3?
what helmet mount do you use?
Just bought an insta360 one r. What size selfie stick are you using? I think there are 3 different sizes
120cm 👌
Where is this riding omg its beautiful
Alpe d'Huez in France 🇫🇷
Hi Malcom, are you using an insta360 selfie stick here, if so which one? Looking for something to fit in my pocket too, thanks
Yeah, I just use the standard one from insta 360, it folds down pretty small and is definitely long enough for everything that I need it for!
hey dood, awesome video is yours the standard 70cm one or the 114cm stick?
@@neochaser 114cm I think yes
Whats your sound recording secret? 😎 Your voice is so clear that it seems impossible to record it from camera microphones.
I use an external lav mic with a furry windshield on my chest, no action cam will ever give you very good audio, especially when doing something like snowboarding!
Does it work with any selfie stick, or do I need one specific for the X2?
There's been a few different selfie sticks that they've had over the years, ones that just pull out, to one's the screw lock, with the latest iteration being the stiffest and lightest. I'm sure there's other brands that make them but if you're spending the money on the camera I wouldn't bother trying to save a small amount of money with a knock off stick, I would just go for the one that insta360 make.
01:18 oh i miss someone.. teddy miss him too
I do love the shots I get with my Insta one R. Well the shots I get with it when it’s not mucking about and refuses to work at all…
Haha yeah, the one x2 does seem a little more user friendly!
Do u need data or wifi to check the footage on your phone?
You can access the camera by wifi and download the footage
@@jorgbachtiger7338 thanks 🙌
Do you need to edit the stick in post??
No the camera doesn't film it, it's really good
@@malcolmmoore thanks brother! Will defo get it
Is it waterproof?
He mentioned it is fully waterproof at the 11:24 mark. ;)
Indie? Indy? God I like him. Thanks for taking him with you! : ) I recently lost mine:( Don't like this comment tho, I know you're reading.
Again - love the videos, always engaging, interesting.. oh and your positivity! Mua
Indy! Oh that's sad to hear, indy is 5 now, so we should have a while longer with him 😍
INDY DOES GONDOLAS?!?! What a good boy!!
That's some icy slope...
I dont get it this camera us flys???
I have no idea what your question is?
Did you leave the dog??
I think he was home when I filmed this one 😊
I just got to record with my iPhone 😂
your board is a majesty right ?
I mean the first one we see
the quality and image stability is alot off the gopro though
what's it like living up a mountain dude? can you get nice food to buy? entertainment?? live bands?? walks and outings?? jobs?? you self employed or attached to a resort?? would be nice to know a bit about how you live up there in comparison to...not living up a mountain!! No worries if not...just kept thinking it and wanted to share...
