      i thought uldren got corrupted by riven, so it could be that uldren had the seed in him since going into the black garden, it's just riven made the seed bloom to then become fully corrupted?

      An idea, what if the awoke are the eldrich race?? And are we corrupted? We’ve been to the black garden, and now we’ve sided with the drifter, who says use the darkness. And a gardener grows and weeds, plants and uproots. I think the traveler and the darkness are codependent. Uplifting life and braking down life in a endless cycle. Just a thought. I can see the seed of knowledge was in this video. Good job Myelin games.

    This is just another angle to the Garden Progeny I flavor text, what if the two siblings aren’t referring to Mara and Uldren but the Light and Darkness. It would explain the reflections bit (Ulan Tan’s Symmetry). The “path long seen but never known” would be the cycle of the Traveler gifting civilizations and the Darkness destroying them (the “never known” aspect would be how we have no clue when or where this started or where they came from).

      That was my first thought as well, especially with the mention of the eldritch race. Eldritch tend to be ghostly/dark/unusual/etc (also undying, creatures from another plane of existence/etc), and if it's never been used before to refer to the awoken I feel like it could easily be referring to the traveler and the dark version of the traveler, whatever that may be. I hadn't even thought of that flavor text being about anything but that to be honest.

      Well there in the trailer is a portal in the background that I want to believe looks like the black garden portal, I remember hearing that there is multiple black gardens from a scannable on nessus. So I believe the black garden is creating there champions against the guardians (our old fears that we killed) the vex can simulate and possibly with the power of the black garden create those nightmares and bring them back physically in the real world

    From Epistemic in the Aspect lore book:
    "[Praedyth] watches the movements of the Vex. He learns to tell them apart: the shining silver ones, the brass ones with backswept horns, the ones with eyes glowing white. Occasionally, scattered among them are pockets of Vex stained with verdigris, their arms trailing shawls of moss. All the other Vex keep away from those ones. Twice, he's seen other Vex fight the mossy ones. It looks like the other Vex are frightened of them, as much as Vex can be."
    This is huge! Finally, we got confirmation that not all Vex descended from the garden; not all Vex worship the Darkness. Most Vex disagree and actually *fight* with the Sol Divisive.

      I think the mirror or darkness equivalent of the traveler are those tetrahedron ships at the end of D2. Think about it. The traveler is a sphere. No vertices. One, infinite face. A tetrahedron is the opposite of this. As few faces and vertices as possible on a 3D shape.
      Also, motes of light from D1 are made in the traveler's image as spheres. We know that the "motes" in gambit are motes of dark. What shape are motes of dark? Tetrahedron. Those aren't ships. They're dark traveler's. Agents of the deep. Or at least I'd like to think so.

      @Jihadi Jeff Probably corruption that occurred during a battle between the Traveler and Darkness during the Collapse. The main point was to emphasize coexistence of Light and Dark energies, and foreshadow balance being explored in current lore. The main points of the current and upcoming lore have all been planned out since before D2's release. Maybe not written in detail, but the main points and synopsis they plan to explore are.

    Can't wait for Uldren to show up and say "Guardian, my man!" after being cleansed.

    • @savagewraith
      @savagewraith 5 років тому +4

      I think Uldren's corruption has to do with Hatred vs Hope. Darkness would naturally fuel itself off hate. Uldren hated Guardians for killing fallen. For destroying what they do not understand. Uldren was essentially our first glimpse at a Dark Guardian. The dark ether is literally the opposite of normal ether which was made by the traveler so naturally dark/corrupted ether must come from the darkness.
      Uldren likely died from the battle above Saturn. He somehow woke up, crashed on Mars, but alive. He likely was accidentally ressurected by Nokris on Mars and since he wasn't a Hive, he wasn't bound to Nokris so he wasn't bound to Mars. He then planned to carry out a mission to find his Sister. He was going to rally the Fallen. He silently returns to the reef only to find Guardians roaming and killing Fallen and not giving a 2nd thought about it.
      It's at this point that Uldren's hate overwhelms him. He cannot bear it. These Eliksni, the Fallen that he had a deep respect and care for were being treated like vermin by these self righteous, power hungry, guardians.
      His heart swelled with hate and with sorrow. He didn't want to be a guardian or have their power, he just wanted to save this dying Archon Priest that was slowly suffering to death by shots from a golden gun.
      And Uldren reached deep in his heart to find the strength to save this Archon. To heal his wounds. To spare his pain.
      His eyes always hurt since he woke up from the crash. Now it was unbearable and he wept over the body of the Archon Priest. He begged whatever power was in himself to come forth to heal this creature that lay before him, left to suffer a slow painful death.
      And this power answered. It did as he wanted. It healed this Archon. Not just his wounds. But took away his need for ether and filled his lungs with a new, dark and powerful ether.
      Much like the shards of the Traveler, the Heart of Darkness was a shard of the Other. The Formless. The Darkness itself.
      The gambit armor supports this by describing these formless light supressing creatures on an ice planet/moon.
      Oryx when he used to think Sword Logic was the final power/law of the universe, only to realize in defeat that the final power isn't might, it's magic. After all, how can a sword defeat what it cannot cut?
      The final shape in the universe is to become shapeless. To become Formless.
      Just by being in the Black Garden, the Darkness was planted inside him and cultivated by his hatred for Lightbearers.
      But the Traveler cleansed him. Notice when the Shard pulls the darkness out of Uldren, there's a fountain of Light effect that washes over Uldren. It's identical to whenever a ghost first ressurects their Guardian, like we see in the Zavala origin story cutscene.
      Which means that the Travel in it's own decision cleansed Uldren.
      But as we know from lore tabs and Saavathun's Song strike, to pull the light out of a Guardian kills them. It then is understandable to assume the same applies to pulling the darkness out of someone.
      Uldren was not just cleansed, but ressurected in that cutscene. And considering that wasn't his first time dying, since he was ressurected by the dark, by the Light, and then again by his now Ghost.
      Uldren may be the first Guardian to have his full memory because he is the first known Guardian to have been resurrected before getting a ghost.
      This opens the door to so much lore potential. Not just with Uldren and him potentially being the Traveler's chosen champion and having his memories, but with the Garden as well as the Darkness and the Eldritch race.
      If the Garden truly is bait for Guardians, it makes perfect sense that Uldren's dark Guardian-esque power came from the Garden. Which means the Garden wants to be found. It wants to lure potential Dark Guardians for it's army.

    My take: Uldren got seeded in the Garden (and Mara had suspicions for his change in personality over time, which is why she didn't let him know of the bank heist plan), Riven just happened to be in said Garden. Riven being Ahamkara, may have somewhat planted that with a seed "wish" into Uldren without him knowing it. Oryx's pulse thing at start of Taken King acted like Fertilizer to the seed in Uldren, and his thoughts clouded up with the way that went, drove him further to the madness/darkness, Riven attached like a signal from a transmitter and took advantage of that growing darkness. Then Forsaken happened. And now he's resurrected clear headed but able to tap into both light and dark. (I also imagine the original Destiny scene before the game was redone that never made it "Why is the City after me?", when he was "Crow" will be reused...)
    It's funny how the word Eldritch race/horror are starting to show up more in Lore/Armor things. Also Eldritch Effects is a nice transmat.

    I've long thought of the Vex as survivors of the Ana-Harmony, with their survivors throwing themselves into "pools of silver" as the Hive destroyed their worlds.
    I suspect the Garden itself was the Vex's attempt to save their ancestors' culture, but the Darkness corrupted the Garden. Now, instead of a library, the Garden is a warfield of ideas and memes; ideas fighting, evolving, infecting. In the end, the Darkness-fueled arms race will result in ONE idea, the idea of final shapes.

    Eldritch Race interest me. Considering Eldritch means shadowy, ghostly or weird, this could mean so many things. But Shadowkeep seems consistent with eldritch's meaning. And if Shadowkeep indeed leads right into the story of Season of the Undying, then maybe we will definitely see, or at the least get more info on the Eldritch Race. Unless the shadowy ghost beings we see ARE the Eldritch Race? So many questions that need to be answered now lol. Also, great video, been watching them for the past two days when I can. You do very well with explaining the lore as well as giving your own theories. Great Job :)

    I honestly think after Uldren's first trip into the garden, one single seed planted into him then that seed watered by the shock wave from Oryx's power then shortly after growing in him, edging him to the darkness's err more so Riven's pull. Ironically I think we will see Uldren or at lore wise read about him in connection with the garden even after his resurrection and mind wipe. Would love to see Bungie come up with a compelling story that he(Uldren) is feeling pulled or faint memories of being in the garden feeling both at home and yet scared of it because something lurks beyond the bed of ghost flowers.

    There's something everyone should know, I don't think most people do. If you remember the Taken portal in the Dark Forest in the EDZ there's a minor detail about the portal you probably didn't notice. If you zoom into the portal with a sniper rifle, you can clearly see Vex structures(possibly the Black Garden)inside the portal. There are no screenshots of the inside so I assume it's not common knowledge. You'd have to see for yourself.

    It now makes sense as to why Uldren wanted us to fail or run away when we wanted to destroy the Black Garden's heart.
    He described the heart as a tripwire... bait for Guardians to destroy it. But what would that tripwire set off other than heal the Traveler? Is that what it wanted? To have it heal and then awaken once again to wake up its planters?

    • @Luckydave123
      @Luckydave123 5 років тому +1

      Yes i also believe that it sole purpose was to set us up to destroy it so the Traveller can begin to heal and later awaken.
      And whats interesting is that in some Leaks for destiny 3 it is said that the traveller killed the god of the veil (those with the Pyramid ships) or whatever they will be called during the collapse and that they want to resurrect their god with the help of the Power of the traveller. So in order to resurrect their god they want the traveller at full strength to then harness his Power to resurrect their god.
      If thats true than we as guardians we're tricked from the beginning and with every enemy of the Traveller killed the traveller and the light gets more powerfull and we play right in the hands of the Darkness and their efforts to resurrect their God. This would be a good Twist

  • @coreyfurtado5986
    @coreyfurtado5986 5 років тому +1

    Ever since Year 1 of D1 I've been convinced that the Black Garden was inside the Traveller itself. It doesn't have a sky. It has a ceiling as if it's in a sort of dome, and the fact that the cracks we see in the Traveller after it awakens in D2 emit a similar color to the atmosphere of the Black Garden only reinforce the theory. Also in D1's original story the Hive were draining the Traveller's light by siphoning it from a Shard, and when we destroy the Heart of the garden our Ghost tells us the Traveller has immediately started gaining its Light back. What better way to corrupt the Traveller than from the inside right?
    Also Myelin's theory about the Garden corrupting Uldren is interesting, but I don't think it's true. The transformation described with the Cabal in the Garden is VERY different from being Taken like how the Techeuns were. He was also very singularly driven by the goal of freeing Riven, whereas the Cabal was essentially a slack-jawed idiot. The legionary seemed infected by a parasite, but Uldren was straight-up brainwashed.

    This is easily now one of my favorite videos. And tbh I do believe Uldren was either planted a seed inside of himself or the black garden just straight up corrupted his heart by him entering it because he is awoken and they’re both light and dark and from what we saw the traveler shard just took the darkness out of his eyes so what if the black garden can just corrupt a awakens heart by entering it without needing a seed planted on or in them. Because the line between light and dark is so very thin.

    Hey Myelin, just my thought into your question at the end of the video, "The ending of the eldritch race, a path long seen but never known" is talking about the Ahamkaras, (shapeshifters => eldritch) how we thought we hunted them to extinction, but we never knew until we killed Riven, as explained by the techeuns to be the last known Ahamkara. And also, in my opinion of the first phrase "Two siblings cleaved by time and space" refers to how Awokens are made, and the two siblings basically confirms your theory that it is talking about Mara and Uldren.
    All in all, another great vido Myelihn! It is intersting how this prophecy is found on the weapon "Garden Progeny 1" as without that context we would have never known how Uldren was taken other than a theory he was truck by Oryx's blast.

    I love your observation Myelin, perhaps being exposed to Oryx’s oversoul blast. Brought about the darkness Uldren had already growing in him due to his excursion into The Black Garden. As you put it. To add to your video, the Black Garden flower “Asphodelia” was brought to Dreaming City by Prince Uldren and gifted to Mara Sov. The Techeuns developed a milder variant of the flower called Pink Asphodelia. In the Dreaming City’s Ghost Scan patrols, it is revealed that the flower has attributes of The Light and The Dark. If you make tea using its petals, it brings about feelings of peacefulness and enlightenment. But should you accidentally get a thron from the plant pierce your skin. It brings about feelings of paranoia, madness and violence. So, it is taboo to pick the flowers in Dreaming City. The Awoken only use them for spiritual rites. To honor births and for funeral ceremonies.

    Your last quoted lore line had me think outside the box a little. "Two siblings (Light/Traveler & Darkness/Black Garden) cleaved by time and space, reflections (I took this as reflections of thier own nature the Light has Guardians and the Darkness has it's Taken or manipulated races.) never found alone, the ending of the eldrith race (I took this as not a direct naming of a race but more of a hint. Eldrith depending on its use could mean old/elder race which the light and dark are among the oldest in terms of the Destiny timeline OR Eldriths direct meaning a dark/twisted race ending) - a path long seen but never known (every guardian/agent of light wants the darkness gone and since races have been used by both the light and darkness since before the lights use of humanity it would literally be a goal long fought for by guardians but as of yet unknown or if we go back to the elder race idea both sides light and dark want the other gone so this could also mean the light could be ending as we have played through a spot in the game where you go into the future and there is no more light. These are my thoughts anyways. My interpretation leaves some wiggle room for either side and with the developers okay going to some dark spots I could see a darkness ending BUT there is also hope in the darkness winning but thats a whole new post.

    Myelin, I feel like this is kind of a flimsy theory. I got the impression that Uldren and Jolyon visited the Black Garden long before Vanilla D1 and Forsaken. So for us to see him in D1 with no corruption, theoretically long after visiting the Garden, and then in Forsaken with corruption, doesn’t make much sense if he was corrupted by the Garden. It had to have been before D1’s campaign, because we destroyed the Garden. Mara must have known this, so there would be no reason for her to ask him about the Heart. It’s an interesting theory, but doesn’t make all that much sense. Or maybe I’m wrong. It is a theory, after all.

    Some really cool insights in this video! I think the Garden Progeny text should be interpreted more broadly: the siblings are not Mara and Uldren, but the Traveller and the Black Garden, or the Light and Darkness. The text even says you can't find one without the other, reinforcing a popular Destiny theme of the duality of Light and Dark. I think the text speaks of the origins of this duality, implying that the Traveller and the Black Garden/Darkness were born when an eldritch race perished, or as a result of it perishing.

The traveler bringing new life and new growth, and the garden feeding off of life, killing, infecting. Neither one able to act on their own so they breed champions. Their endgame may even be reunion but because that's not possible they both exist out of balance.
