we used round tubs. clip on's. baited each one. put foil on a coffee can. broom stick to spot line on radar. 900 fathoms. halibut too. when they were the size of a Cadillac hood and weighed 400 pounds. two men at the rail with gaffs. longline...7 miles each set off Kodiak. curvature of the earth. radar skip right off no see um. good fishin men. get home safe. northern Michigan. where it's warm.
Remember long lining in the 90s on an inshore fleet , every boat earned a living for weeks off the same patch until a commercial trawler came along and wiped it all out in one haul , commercial fishing is not the way to go I’m afraid.
Some people...but, gotta feed 'em! 😂 so you keep fishing, shipping, farming, ranching, trucking, everything that's done to keep people...then they complain about it! 😂😂😂
I welcome the change and do my part to safely shake Halibut. I take into consideration all marine life while working and stop the block for the crabbies. 😊
Will you be on the boat at the end of this month? I’m trying to get hired on right now. Just completed the medical paperwork and waiting to hear back from
@mattszarowicz5049 There's a crucifier, with 4 rollers about 3 inches apart, it's hydraulic open close and also has brushes to knock off bait. We have to shake off the halibut outside the boat, but sometimes I tray shake them before the crucifier and if I can't or the hook is in my arm, hand or rain gear I hit the Deadman switch with my leg.
Jesus I could never bring myself to make .6% or 1% for deckhands... I did that crap on the FV Pavlof for .8 as processor and 1.5% as a deck hand. Then went and worked on the Aleutian Lady and started at 2.5% those factory ships are just a spring board go find a better boat bro.
@@EnlistedBombin second end ;) edit: In 2020 I broke my arch during opies and fished for another 3 weeks on it as shot man, when I would step on the line tying shots I would hit the deck in pain. That was rough and it hurt for two years after.

That cruicifier is a rough way to fish. Those small ones are gonna have a tough time growing into catchable size when they have no fucking jaw left.

they try to convince us they aint over-fishing??? Shiiiiiit!!!

Better than trawling kills most all sizes. At least hooks are selective for size

I hate this fishing. There'll soon be nothing left
Do your homework, in the US this fishery is tightly managed by the NMFS. In other countries, especially China, there is no management.
