Loic has five different buttons on his prototype Specialized Demo downhill bike and that doesn't factor in shifting. He, his mechanic Jack and Ohlins are all pretty tight-lipped about what the functions they serve, but today we got a bit of information from the current World Cup DH leader himself.
He confirms the buttons are not Skittles, he seemingly teases that they're for playing music and then says their function should be pretty easy to figure out. When asked if using them is confusing, he admits that it is not easy and there are risks associated with hitting the wrong button at the wrong time. Regardless of their function or trickiness in pressing, Loic's in the lead right now and that's really all that matters.

Since I've mounted my PlayStation controller to my bike I can respawn at the top of the hill.
😂😂😂
Yeah but be careful if you hang your bike vertically to a wall the CPU might melt off.
Specialized are in a different league to the other teams, they're like an F1 team.
Still not getting that many wins in the World Cup, good example of it’s the rider not the bike that counts
@@leonmargerison3888 I mean Loic won the last over all world cup and already had 2 worldcup wins so far this year
I know he was joking but I actually would like music controls on my bars
Can control from Garmin
I have a bluetooth remote on all my bikes
I have a 34in screen on all my bike.
Those easily reachable tactile buttons are what we need 🙌
@@DevinDeVoreare u fr?? If i had some extra money id buy today
Those appear to be the older Magnetti /Marelli ecu adjustment/ fuel adjustment buttons used on GP/ superbikes a few years back. He probably uses them to select suspension lockout, ride height changes. I'm just guessing...
Blows my mind how deep into the travel his forks go most of the time. In comparison to others on the world cup circuit
"Blows my mind..."?? Get some perspective & check out the wonders of the universe to warrant those words.
@@Kowinaidachill out man
@@Kowinaida It doesn't have to be so serious
@@throughjacobphoto Er, neither does my reply...
Someone needs to do some follow up questions: What's the best song for rock garden, motorway, woods, etc? Does Loic choose a song for its mood or is it all about BPM? Which button makes the scratching sound?
we're doing f1 now
I think they should get drs zones as well 😆😆😆😆
The red button turns on the speed metal, for when your really need to shred the lower course
just few buttons between Loïc and me... awesome bike, I think this is the most prototype bike at the moment!
The most tell-tell is the GPS. GPS based data acquisition and GPS based active suspension.
it's interesting because this exact thing is against the rules in a lot of motorsports (like F1, MotoGP..). I wonder if this will stay legal in DH racing.
Very soon, everyone will start questions... but just imagine if all this is just to freak the competition and none are actually connected 😂
@@dirkmohrmann8960 it is too new to be banned yet, but I see it from there. If Loic will roll over the competion this year it will for sure rise some concerns and end up having a ban on it.
I call BS they ARE Skittles and its the sugar boost mid ride that makes him fast.
So dope.
Dammit now I want music controls on my handlebars.
The future-Pushing buttons that make you ride like Loic Bruni!
Dream on 🤣
Soon you will select the rider of your choice and a pre-recorded run of that rider on your track will be enacted by AI on your pedal-less, auto steer, auto corner, E-bike and you will be whip-lashed to the bottom of the hill and all you have to do is hang on.
I think that the electronic suspension gadgetry is overall bad for the sport. Not only will someone need to have elite skill and put it all together with enough risk to win, but he'll also need to have top team support. It's more interesting to have to either compromise the bike setup or optimize it for certain sections based on the rider's strengths, weaknesses, and where he thinks he can find the most time.
If the electronic stuff stays, i hope it will never be time or position dependent. Manual modes or auto detection based on shock movement is at least tolerable, but position-based is too far.
his is manual but it is an unfair advantage of a cutting edge team for sure
so you want want boring ass old rules like on the road? mtb tech has always been out front. let them innovate freely!
Nah man it's the Pinnacle and seeing prototype bikes race seems awesome
We don't understand what it's like to be at this level of racing. They almost all have teams that could do this. When milliseconds can decide the top rider and everyones skill is top tier, you want to be able to squeeze every little bit of potential out of your bike. You have all the same stuff on your bike but have to use a screwdriver and some tools to adjust it. When they start adding spoilers and aero components is the point it becomes overkill imo.
@@chadbarbaro Oh yes, very interesting, a program that does the work for the rider in a sport that initially didnt have any electronics...
Ai generated riding to make me be like ronan dunne when? If that could also include ratboy impersonation too, that would be great.
I bet it’s suspension settings! Adjust on the fly
Skittles 😂
You could feed AI with the suspension data of the track and let it optimize suspension characteristics based on that on the fly even for changing track conditions. And just get rid of the buttons this way.
Wouldn't work, the track evolves too much, specially with changing weather
in real these all NOS Buttons, for speeeeeeeedddd
Haha this made me laugh, let's add weight to the bike just to play music, F1 style adjustment buttons suspension lockout, the colours are for different sections of the track. There is probably more to it.
Musical doping? 😂
Soon you will select the rider of your choice and a pre-recorded run of that rider on your track will be enacted by AI on your pedal-less, auto steer, auto corner, E-bike and you will be whip-lashed to the bottom of the hill and all you have to do is hang on.
Bloody French!
It’s for DRS
Bro shounds gloonkyyy....
Looks Like a MotoGP cockpit
Looks like controls from motogp bike
I may be an old dog, but I would be pretty happy if they just banned electronics during race runs.
Definitely mixed on how I feel about this since Fox and Sram have already had electronic suspension for a while now.
This line of thinking is what would stagnate the sport. Furry pfp doesn’t help
@@MarioXcore1 Doesn't help what?
I think it does help the development of the sport.
Allowing themselves to be curious and play around with their ideas has definitely given them a sense of confidence as they are winning races and eventually it’s going to trickle down to something for us to see and use. I don’t think it’s rocket science.
Ok, just press UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, B, A, START. LOL
So here's my question... How much scrutineering is being done at World cup races to make sure that there is no motor doping creeping into our sport (more gadgetry makes it easier to hide)?
do you think the earth is flat to?
@@boriscima8134 no you're on your own there.
@@ColinOlden1 do you really think that UCI does not check that before the race . If you have doubt i think they have to
@@boriscima8134 So as I said I wonder just how much scrutineering is done, I worked for many years as the race director of the world cup race in Fort William before the Warner brothers take over. In all my years there and as race director of the British downhill series I can only once recall Loic's bike being called in for scrutineering when he was running some covered up suspension system with electronic data logging. With the growing amount of motor doping in road cycling I am genuinely concerned that actually it would be very easy for a downhill racer to get over the start line with nothing checked other than their bar plugs and chin strap.
@@ColinOlden1 funny that the cover on this bike appears in 2022 so how can you even looks at it before warner came in the picture
That is the most ratless thing I hear 0:26
gotta love how they hide rear suspension. who cares about the music, i want to know what is under that shroud.
Music ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Getting ridiculous now 🤣🤣
E-dh 🤣⛳
ban the buttons
And THIS is Mountainbiking?!
yes
Put a dropper post on this bike and I’ll use it for everything.
I’d like for this to trickle down to my trail, enduro, freeride and downhill biking ❤
Thumbs
HAHAHAHA
How to be gullible 101 🤣
Is it true??
Yeah bro!
I didn't know they let you compete with music
how is this allowed. clearly if 99.)% of riders don't use a system like this, he's cheating
if you don't cheat you ain't racing
Bikes should be fully mechanical, no electrical components, no parts hidden (suspension)... wouldn't be surprised to see one get caught with a hidden motor
The guy asking questions 😂 sounds like he is high

Any rider using this in DH can’t be taken seriously. Shouldn’t be making podium. E bike DH next? Rediculous!
