Payback for all of the years Dad fed him, clothed him and wondered when Ross was going to do something stupid and kill himself. Most all Dads do that and some of their offspring usually want to pay back by doing something the old man needs done. The circle of life...
Always a miserable job fumbling with vehicle repairs in cold weather. Had to chuckle at the extended animal sounds... Hope your Dad has a nice toasty non-leaking truck now!!! Got spoiled with the warm weather for a few days...then back to reality. I've got things to work on too, maybe the weather will turn around soon.
I had better luck with that series of dodge than the 2003 on up. When they put the common rail on it seemed like they had more problems, mine did anyway. One more project completed. Always feels good to get them checked off
I listened to a documentary on Dodge trucks and Cummins last night. The thing that really caught my attention was the guy made a comment at the end how Dodge helped save Cummins. I wouldn't imagine that Cummins was hurting with all of the applications they're engines are used in, let alone the CDC partnership they had with Case. Look at all of the Case equipment alone that used 5.9s. Im not a Dodge truck fan, but it was still very interesting to hear the story
5.9's do take forever to warm up! Have an 03, the one winter I had to drive back and forth to work with it, 30 miles one way, seemed like I'd be half way before any heat came out.
That valve on the back of the T-Stat is to Open or Block the Bypass and if you dont Have that valve it can cause one of 2 problems it will cause Slow warm up or can in summer cause overheating .SEE
It is a Dodge Ram Truck. What do you expect it to do. Mine is a red regular cab short bed and has a 4.7 (287 cu. in.) and it is a handful if you are not careful on gravel or wet roads. It likes to wag it's tail if you are a little to hard on the accelerator pedal. We are going to pull my 24' implement trailer to deliver some art pieces next week. I doubt if the truck will really know it is back there.
I will trade you for that truck as well,or just the engine and transmission, lol along with the two Three wheelers ,,for the Oliver 550 untility tractor, ??!!! Thanks BigAl California.
Could Dodge have made this any more complicated? Oh I miss the days when you could go to the parts store, buy a thermostat and swap it out within an hour. AND it was just a thermostat and a simple, single gasket. Done.
It really special how you take care of your dad and his antique dodge truck.

I love those Cummings engines they're stout as hell

Yes, thanks!

Ross, nice that you're able to finish this project. With a whole lot of animal sounds 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Michael

Thats the way my 93 F 250 diesel was when I got it, scary fast! Still does good.
If the heater is slow to heat back flush the heater core not hard to do before replacing core
Good job Ross!
Nice job on your Dads truck

It fought you a little but in the end ya got it!
I have to admit, I'd forgotten about this project, lol. It's back up now, so that is good. Take care and I'll see you later.

How good does that truck start in cold weather? We call that sudden bursts of frustration!

Mr. Ross if you had the correct tool for those clamps it would be a half mile from that truck when you needed it. Your luck is as bad as mine!
👍👍👍👍👍

I waited almost 2 months for oil filter for my Ram. You know the old saying, Dodge is a damn fine vehicle, I ran over my 1st wife with a Dodge.
There was a slim chance I liked it so…
You probably know that diesels take awhile to warm up! Good job it will go another 20 years!
Bet you're glad this project is over. Ain't nothing ever easy. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Why would you expect it to go good, when you keep asking God to curse it? Playing animal sounds don't hide the intent.
