Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think Control Helper does more than the controls overlay. I believe it biases the controls to "help" new pilots with things like hovering and sideslip by adding some back-right cyclic and anti-torque pedal. The problem is how that works with the trimmer. Before I turned it off, I had an issue with the trim system always "adding" input. I could sit there with no inputs of my own and just hit the trim button and watch the stick and pedals deflect more and more with each press. I could never get the Rudder Trimmer to work because it would always "add" the helper in after it was already baked into the trimmed pedal value. Turning control helper off eliminated this issue for me. It may have been something else, but I tried all the other special options and they didn't solve the issue.
You are 100% correct. I got lazy and trusted the information I found without verifying it. That's on me and I'm sorry. After trying it out, yea... It's adding cyclic and pedal inputs so that I can take off just by raising the collective. Definitely something I wouldn't recommend people use.
The big issue right now is my aging hardware making editing an effort in frustration. Until I can upgrade my computer I'm somewhat limited to making videos that don't require a ton of editing (like this one). But yea, still lots on the to-do list for this series - new stuff and do-overs alike.
@@vsTerminus I feel you, it’s a sad consequence of the Pandemic, the cost of upgrading our computers has increased a lot, so much that I’ve been saving for 6 months to purchase my first rudder pedals, I’m still short of attaining this goal, not only the rudders cost 300 euro, but the shipping is expensive because I live on the literal bottom of the world, and on top of that my dear government wants their cut too, in the form of outrageous taxes (30% of the total goods+shipping) ... but I will get there, as I’m hell bent on flying helicopters properly :D

Great video. For anyone watching this in early 2022: The corrector seems to have been removed entirely (I couldn't find it) and some of the other controls seem to have changed but still watch the whole video.
I have the warthog HOTAS and I took out the big spring and then took the smaller springs on the bottom and put them on top to make using the stick easier for rotors and the bonus is that it has just enough tension to keep the stick from flopping around but it is stay where I leave it. I only trim during hover and never have to use the autopilot. no fancy hotas needed.
I have not. Steam says I own it but it doesn’t show up in DCS. I had this problem with the Huey and others as well and I believe I fixed it by uninstalling everything and reinstalling. Just haven’t had the time to do that again.
@@snaggletooth1773 I had the steam version, and migrated off. I am having a better experience. I fly with a squad MP, and it is really the only thing I play anymore. Sim goes pretty deep. Black Shark Den is the squad
Hey, Control Helper is assisted flight Control, example it will pull the stick back and to the right for you on takeoff 🙂 , great vids by the way very helpful im brand new to Rotary stuff so this is fantastic 👌
I have more or less the same bindings like you; the main difference in the collective is that I check the "Slider" option. I haven´t observed any noticeable difference between enabling it or not, but is some kind of OCB that I repeat with every module I have, I do the same with whell brakes.
That's actually an oversight in my video, thank you for bringing it up! Anything that isn't self-centering should generally be set as a slider axis. I always forget to do it and haven't noticed any real differences either. Something to look into for a future video I guess.
About that zoom view: do you have the USB cable connected directly to the motherboard or via extension cable? My Warthog shakes around 80% when USB hub is in use. Try connecting directly.
Any chance you will release your weapons tutorial for the Mi-8 you talked about in this video? The bombing and how to aim them is very confusing for me. I'm learning the Hip in preparation for the Hind but I'm finding that I'm starting to like the Hip even more.
Unfortunately there is no good way to aim the bombs. The Mi-8 is supposed to have a bomb sight but ED never added it because they felt it wouldn't get used enough to justify the work. So it's a lot of guesswork to bomb accurately without damaging yourself as well. I do want to get to those videos but right now I am struggling to find time to record. I haven't forgotten about it at least.
I’m learning the Mi8 now and slowly getting better with it , I’m just wondering what you guys use as your collective , I use the thumb hat on my CH Throttle but I find it tricky to get a sweet spot for hovering or descending , it’s either climbing or dropping too fast .
Great videos! One question my left and right throttle control is doubled in the options menu and has the text in yellow and the boxes greyed out so unable to assign axis? Any idea what this may be?
I've seen that before. Sometimes it means you have a broken inputs file and need to try running a repair. Not really sure though. Might have some luck searching the forums
After a 15$ trip to hardware store I have a mount for my throttle that rests it just to my left so I get that lifting the collective feeling but if ita just on top of my desk yup forward means go XD lol.
Great video, i asked you for new setup for DCS World sim, could you answer me, comment is postet on your last MSFS video. And, would you recommend me buying G430 Garmin GPS for MI-8?
I answered your previous question yesterday. It should work fine. The T16000m stick is a solid choice. I have no experience with the T-Flight stuff, but having a throttle and pedals will help in a helicopter. If that's what your budget allows for it will do the job. I would go full T16000m HOTAS if you have the money, seems odd to mix and match. The NS-430 is useful enough. I would recommend it on sale. Some of the maps in DCS lack radio nav aids, so your only option becomes the Doppler. GPS can be more convenient, and has other uses in MP (like being able to see your distance in Nautical Miles and have an automatic ETA to your destination).
@@vsTerminus Thank you for the answer, i didnt see last one on previous video, sorry. My budget right now is 400KM which is 200e.. But im planning to buy setup in Jule or June.
