Morning ! I had a Gold Flame Honeysuckle for 15 years. (NJ zone 7) EVERY year the Powdery Mildew. Finally I started spraying BioAdvanced Insect, Disease & Mite Control every weekend. Purchased at Lowes. Start early in spring before powdery mildew appears and spray EVERY weekend till fall.
Yes! I finally started buying the BioAdvanced disease control and so far no powdery mildew! Sometimes we just have to give in and spray.
I need this so bad. Will it hurt the hummingbirds and pollinators?
@@VintageSoulMelanie the one I got from that brand is just a fungicide, and I apply it in the evening before it gets dark so the pollinators are asleep. I think it’s okay to use within reason, like not spraying during the time pollinators are most active 😊
When mildew is such a problem wouldn’t it be better to replace it with a mildew resistant honeysuckle or something else that doesn’t get mildew?

Ughhh - me too with the powdery mildew. Every year same old same old. First flush of roses and then the mildew. Good luck with the neighbors tree.
Powdery mildew can be caused by having no breathing space and too crowded in the area near the ground and having just too much other stuff growing around the plant. As well as again where your apples are is just being to crowded on top and not spraying the 3 times over the winter with a dormant spray with copper concentrate mixed in. You spray once in November, then around December then last which is very important around March or when the blooms and leaves are just starting to bush out.
The color combination on the front window box is stellar! And the garden bed is so calming and peaceful. A true awh moment.

My daughter uses BioAdvanced Rose/ flower care. It covers aphids, bugs , mold stuff, etc... one product for all those problems.. I was using the copper spray you have. I've switched to her recommended product this year. It's recommended to spay once a month. Shrubs roses boxwoods, etc..at Lowe's .so far, so good...
That window box with all the yellow flowers is so beautiful, you do everything so professional, very nice yard.
I agree about the HDX pump sprayer. It's just trash, barely works when it's new and after a short period of time doesn't work at all. If you ever find one that works and doesn't cost a 💰let us know. So frustrating.
Get the Ortho hose end sprayer. It mixes from I think like 1 teaspoon/gallon up to 8 ounces/gallon of water. I’ve had mine for years and it’s still working great.

Hi Robbie, the oldest show of you're that I could find was 11 months ago. When did you start your channel? What made you start filming? Was it just thought to do for fun or thought to do for finance to help with the plant shoopping.😊 I know how that is can't past up. Our town gardeners had a plant sale today. They sell from their gardens to earn for planting in town. I went down 3 times. Things I just paid $15 at nursery they had for $5 and a good size plant.

I bought a Vaxmay electric sprayer on Amazon this spring and love it. It was inexpensive but works great
I just buy the cheapest pump sprayers & rinse the tip after use. They last me a few years.
A couple of months ago, I used the same Copper solution (RTU) on an apple tree that had powdery mildew and it cleared it right up!
I love Coleus topiarys!! I took one from last year and trimmed it all back except the straight central stem leaving a few leaves on top. Kept an eye on it all winter and trimmed back any stems that were out of place. I wanted it small and now have about a 12” high perfect topiary in a beautiful little decorative container❤️. It is kept indoors and always will be. Watching your video it hit me I have never fertilized it!🤦♀️

Robbie last year you were planning on doing a big change to your back yard, adding some formality with boxwoods? Doing it in quadrants or somethong? I love your yard as it is but wondering what you had decided? I don’t think I’ve ever missed one of your videos?

Hi Robbie! I used to have the aphid problem really bad in my garden and i did a lot of Neem oil spraying blah, blah, blah, but now the aphids are only on a small number of my drift roses. But other than that, no more aphids. Thank god! I really think the secret is the Bioadvance all in one rose granular fertilizer. I swear, it really controls the bugs and the fungal issues as well. Since I've started using it, I hardly see any aphids in my garden. you should give it a try, I really love it. I hope it can work for you!! I hope this helps! Garden is looking fabulous!!!

Will the Neem oil and the one for powder mildew hurt the hummingbirds? Last year I used Neem. I really need the powdery mildew product this year with the weather we are having in NC. I’m concerned about my hummingbirds. Thank you for great content!
If you find a good sprayer that doesn't die after one yr please let us know. I buy several to have ready.and replacing 5 pumps every year is expensive.

Robbie, can you ask Monrovia what they recommend for powdery mildew for the honeysuckle? I have a gold flame honeysuckle plant and it has mildew too.
i think to keep hydrangeas blue you use soil amplifier( i don’t know what it’s could sorry)

Robbie have you ever thought of using an auger to do larger drifts? there is a lot of sizes and different prices and different different types but it would take you so much less time to do a multi holes and then you throw your fertilizer and pop the plants. I bought the sprayer from Lowe’s and it works really good for a cheap little sprayer. Haven’t had a problem yet the one that says round up.
Not the liquid just the sprayer like the one you hate, but it just says round up
I’ve used both products for powdery mildew on my roses… I battle it every year… nothing seems to work… I have it so bad this year, I’ve had to strip all leaves off of one of my roses… I give up…

I’ve been trying to work out in my new garden but between being in the FULL sun, the wood ticks, the biting flies AND the tormenting snake I’m very reluctant to work in that area BUT it needs to be done. Baby steps I guess. I’ve planted several smallish trees out there but I’m pretty sure that I’ll never see them reach maturity. In fact I have to dig a hole today to plant a Hortsmann Korean fir, the tiniest little fir but it is SOOOOOOO cute, the hole doesn’t have to be very big 🤣 BUT there are so many roots out there from when we clear cut the jungle behind our garage it does make it difficult to plant anything in the ground where you want it. I’m just VERY lucky I’m not dealing with big roots, just roots from an invasive shrub that littered that area, while there are some biggish roots from volunteer trees I can usually work around them. Story time over 🤣 HAPPY GROWING ROBBIE. 💐💚🙃

QUESTION The neem oil do you mix water and a little dish soap with it? I bought some neem oil and every time I sprayed my roses the leaves looked oily and would turn yellow and then fall off. I would always spray either early morning or late evening so as to not burn the leaves.
Hey Robbie, will the stake on the one topiary type coleus not impede the growth of the leaves as it is right up against the stem? I’m sure they will all bounce back and be even more luscious!

Pinch the tops out of your coleus, stop them getting any leggier and make them bush out. Thank you for showing your failures as well as the successes
Seeing that blue copper stuff brought back memories of when I was a kid and we had a 2 acre commercial fishing lake which was all about gardening too because every year we had to deal with something, plugged springs (divers unplugged), snails, a carp that was eating other fish, but one year this tall grass began growing in the lake and was suffocating the fish. I was 12. My mom had me go out in a rowboat and take measurements of the depth of the lake to order copper sulfate in barrels to kill the grass. It took multiple barrels, but once the grass all died, we had to go out on the boat and roll the grass into bales as it pulled up. The boat would almost sink before we got the heavy grass into shore. In a couple days it was as light as a feather to move. So, that's how I spent my summers, gardening in a lake.
