  • This video is the installation of a 2" natural gas line with regulators at an apartment complex. The line we installed was to feed the south boiler room from the north boiler room. The original line is going to be abandoned that feeds the south boiler because they are planning on building an underground parking structure. If you're a plumbing apprentice, let me know in the comments what kind of jobs you'd like to see.

I'm surprised how short a pipe wrench on the 2" fittings. I've had to come behind and fix enough leaks on larger pipe, I put it on TIGHT with a BIG WRENCH after doping CAREFULLY. But many of the messes I come behind were none too tight.

all the fittings look good but you shoulnt use a saw to cut the pipe becuz those shavings can get down into the pipe then when the gas flows it will take it into the regulator and stick too the seat and cause the regulator to leak out the vent, should just get a pair of 2in ratcheting pipe cutters just be carful not to egg the pipe if you have a dull blade

I have always wondered how they put on those gas risers. Looks like a solid way to do it with the connection being above ground.

those x risers by chicago fittings are nice becuz your fittings are above ground and are easy to install but if they are improperly installed (threads are cross-threaded or pipe not inserted all the way up into the riser) they can leak and when not inserted all the way or not threaded all the way or cross threaded, in that case gas only has one way to go down the riser and out the end of it, below ground. but over all if properly installed they are great

@@bhearit5775 Well, anything can leak if installed improperly. I would prefer to avoid underground connections whenever possible.

nice work. I'm surprised that leaning over gas meter was put in front of the electrical meters, which typically would want 30" or so clearance for servicing those meter panels.

Excellent video, thanks. Great plumbing technique. Were the megapress fittings specified by the project engineer/architect, or the municipal building department? Here in Northern Virginia each jurisdiction seems to have their own specific limitations on mixing threaded & union fitting with megapress in the same final assembly, especially compressed air and gas service installs.

  • @Jimbo234GW

Here, you cannot use metal pipe bushings anymore. It is against code. The use of poly was smart. If using megapress need to go all the way with them.

    • @ThatPlumberDude

We had our excavation crew trench it. It looked like a tunnel but it was a trench with the metal plates on top. The scope of work included running a gas line from one meter to another meter. They were abandoning a gas line because they are installing a parking garage so we ran a new one from another meter. The very end will show you 🤙🏼
