Follow along as we explore and learn to build a homestead in middle Tennessee. In 2016 we packed up our three kids and decided to leave suburban life in order to rediscover our love of outdoors, and learn the necessary skills to build a homestead from scratch. Learn with us as we begin to grow a garden, raise chickens, hunt and forage for food and live life to its fullest.

I also live in middle Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau. I have a few black walnuts on my property big enough to tap, one or two of them are even bigger than the ones in your grove. Definitely going to give it a try this next winter. Would you say beginning of January-mid February is the best time to tap?
I also wonder if you've heard of tapping beech trees. I saw an article a lady wrote that said something like "30 trees you can tap for syrup" where beech was listed but she didn't elaborate. When I googled, all I found was some study from New York saying that it "has economic potential" which wasn't helpful, so I guess no one has really tried yet? I ask because I have a toooooon of beech trees on my property. Some of them are pretty huge too.
YES! I highly recommend it. Sap starts to flow most years as soon as Christmas. I’ve heard of tapping beach, but I’ve never tried it.
@@HurricaneHomestead I guess I'll be the beech tree guinea pig haha. Or a pioneer, depending on how it goes 😂
@govols1995 look forward to hearing how that goes! 😅
You should do more videos! Would love to see more about your rabbits and i will check out your syrup process! Thank you!
I've been taking a little break from UA-cam while I get my new business started. I should have more content this summer and will definitely do some more with the bunnies.
