Hello, thank you for the video. I live in the Hudson Valley and I have many wonderful huge black walnut trees. I will collect the husks in the fall and try this.

This is perfect as There is one right on my property. In fact as i sit here there are some falling from it. I hear every time one does as it lands on the roof and makes a loud crash. They always stain my hands when I handle them an it is difficult to remove. Now, off tom make some ink!

Spoiler alert: the information you're looking for starts at 2:00 and lasts ninety seconds before the presentation shifts to pens and quills.

Question: in the process of harvesting and hulling walnuts for the meat, there are a lot of cast-off skins. However, they aren't as black and rotted as the ones you have--they tend to be on the greener-yellow side. Do those 'fresher' skins work as well when making ink?

Good day, I'm not the poster of this video but I made some Black walnut ink recently and had great success. The greener husk will also turn black once the cooking starts. It is messy but fun. P.S. definitely wear gloves, two weeks later and my hands are still stained.

Made it pretty much the same. Did some calligraphy and the results were great,it feels dry to the touch, BUT when another piece of paper is place on top of it, it sticks to it. Even though it stood for about 6 hours. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Is walnut ink possible to use with dip pens? I bought a bottle online and I found it too thin. I tried adding gum arabic but even when it got thick it don't coat the nib well.
This time I'm sure it's not the nib that's the problem since I used it with some other inks and they get coated fully.

Good point. The actual how-to information starts two minutes in - and only lasts ninety seconds before it shifts to pens and quills.
      Best wishes from Vermont 🍁

Everything he said was useful. I watched it at 1.75 speed and used CCs. Good for finding the part you want. I appreciate his thoroughness.
