Wild bunnies' passionate courtship dance | rabbits cavorting / mating dance (sound on)

- A wild male rabbit named Honker initiated a courtship dance / mating dance with Cottontail Moira. Those two wild rabbits seemed to be very into each other and tangoed passionately for a couple of minutes. They looked like they were having a fight but it was a mating dance called "cavorting" for bunnies of the opposite sex to show each other affection and desire to mate. "A male Eastern cottontail runs fast toward a female cottontail in an attempt to communicate his desire to mate. She jumps straight up in the air as he runs beneath her. To further entice her, the male gives her a spritz of urine as he passes. If she is interested, her jump steps become faster and her leaps get higher. The longer the dance goes on, the closer the female is to mating. This ritual is called cavorting." (Reference: KPBS)

I just saw buns in my yard doing this in Indiana! I didnt know what they were doing and looked up bunnies jumping in search of an answer. They were jumping so high though! At least 3 feet at max height, it was a sight to behold!

I was filming by the edge of the patio and they were only 3 to 4 meters away from me! They are so special.
@@WildTexasBunnies Wow! This is even closer than I imagined! More than anything this makes me question the "need" that wild rabbits and hares have to fear ALL humans in order to survive that scientists allege and rehabbers go by as crucial criterion to release bunnies back to the wild. This assumes that they're too stupid tell if a human has good intentions or not, but your bunnies trusted you yet they more than survived - they thrived perfectly fine.

Must be tough cutting the grass as you don't want to disturb the nests or hurt the little ones.
Yeah... We usually let the grass grow in because rabbits like it and also we don't have to mow it as frequently. We'd put a piece of wood board or laundry basket above the nests during mowing if we know there are babies.
