- On Oct. 23, 2024, The University Star hosted Star Stories, an annual live event featuring true personal narratives from eight amazing storytellers that revealed the greatest challenges and opportunities of the Texas State and San Marcos communities.
About the storytellers:
Jessica Ary is a non-traditional undergraduate student at Texas State University pursuing a bachelor’s in education. She is also a mom to four boys.
Monica Charles is a first generation, non-traditional undergraduate student at Texas State University studying social work. She is also a member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society.
Felicia Ramos is an undergraduate student at Texas State University majoring in English with a minor in pre-med.
Regina Nelson is an advocate for survivors of military sexual trauma whose art piece Fatigues Clothesline, created at Texas State, has been displayed around the world. Nelson is currently a graduate student at Texas State University studying criminal justice and forensic psychology.
Dr. Erika Nielson is an Associate Professor of Instruction in Texas State University’s Integrated Studies Program.
Sean O'Connor is a graduate student at Texas State University pursuing a master’s degree in social work.
Mason Murphy is a career counselor with Texas State University’s career services. Murphy has dedicated his career to working with international students, students with disabilities and students who have aged out of the foster care system. He is also pursuing a Ph.D. in adult, professional and community education at Texas State University.
Sergio Carvajal-Leoni, originally from Venezuela, is a doctoral student in the APCE program and an adjunct faculty member in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
