- Today on Jon's Moto Garage we're checking out a 2013 Suzuki dr-z400sm. That's right, my friends, it's a SUPERMOTO! I've hinted in other vids that I was keeping an eye out for one of these. This wasn't necessarily my "dream supermoto," but the deal was hard to pass on and it'll make for a good starter and step up from the grom for the wheelie sessions. Enjoy the test ride and my first impressions ever mobbing around on a supermoto!

Also has an aftermarket headlight, the factory is a sealed glass beam(junk) headlight, also pretty sure those are the factory bars. With having the exhaust it most likely has a jet kit and the “3x3 air box mod” as they all go together and are a very popular modification. I’ve had 2 of these bikes 2008&2014 and I’d say you got a pretty good deal and there is definitely room to make some money, that pipe is around $500 new on its own!
Thanks for pointing those out. Yeah, it looks like they did the "ktm" headlight conversion and possibly front fender as well. I have a list of the mods from previous owner but he didn't mention the headlight. I'm stoked on it and will continue to mob it for a while and see if I can dial on the wheelies. Thanks bro!

I bought my drz400sm in 2013.same year it came out payed around 10 big ones after it was all said and done.The bike and the price you payed for the bike is great.Supermoto bikes have really not changed at all.I had friends with 2008 converted bikes that can keep up if not smoke 2019 super Motos.you got a hell of a deal paying 3400
Just some advice:Be very very careful with the oil filter on this bike and the right time to change it.I recommend always changing oil filter and oil early.For some reason whatever reason this model needs it.F what the manual says.damn near blew my bike changing it when it was “recommended”

Yessir! Just change oil early! Change early.Not sure what ur miles are but it’s not much to change the oil use a K and M filter (best filter) and just keep up with early oil changes.You gotta great deal on that bike and the tires are a sweet.that bike could easily sell for a grand profit or more after some road/trail fun

Bout to get a used 2014 drz400sm on Wednesday, this is a little more expensive but its been maintained and is really well mint. I'm def. getting this bike.
You got a good deal. You can't find a DRZ400 where I am from as new as yours and as clean for that price. I found a few in the 3k range but they are beaters yours is a lot nice and the ones I found our early 2000's like 2002-2006 the most.
you got a good deal. it has exhaust ,dope headlight, New tires and engine case covers. 3400 is an awesome deal. people here in nj will pay like 4500 to 5gs for that bike .

I live in the north east and that bike around here we go oh $4500 easy you did well! Plastics are easy to fix as long as it’s mechanically sound enjoy it
I just bought a brand new 2019 for a sale price of 6200 and an out the door with tt&l for 7500.
I love those bikes. Supermotos are about the most fun you can have. Clean it up, dial it in and you'll get $4,200 for it. Good job.
I've never flipped a dirt bike, but this may be a good starter....only after I learn the art of the wheelie!

That’s a steal! You can’t fine them in the used market here. Every now and again I’ll see one but it’s in the low 5k price point.
I looked at one Saturday for $5000 2017 model. So they hold there value. Do you still own it ? And how did it work out for you. Any major problems?

I have a 2006 Drz400sm I'm wondering if I should sell it, or keep it and sell it later (if it rises in price)
Do you think it will rise in price, or should I just sell it (I don't ride it much)
It is jetted, fmf headers and exhaust, dry cell battery, 3x3 mod, basically new tires and 9650 miles

Man I got my drz400 44k km on it payed 2000k canadian. Can't really complain it runs like a champ. A rebuild is like 1500$ can't really beat the drz for reliability and affordable fixing
Hey bro sick bike! Would you mind sharing how he has the KTM headlight mod installed? Like how the headlight is mounted? Is it using the rubber straps that are included? Do they just wrap around the forks? Installing mine shortly just having a bit of trouble finding a place for them the straps to go. Cheers
Thanks for checking the vid! So I realized after the purchase that the headlight is held on with zip ties. Lol. I obviously did a horrible job with my inspection cause I totally missed it until one of em broke and the headlight was hanging wack. Sorry that probably wasn't the solution you were looking for.

Hey man, when doing a wheelie, are you relying on the brake for control or the throttle? To me it seems like you keep your throttle at one spot and use your brake to keep your position
I'm looking at a 2014 for 4000 tricked out exhaust system but it has the bigger box in the Jetta carburetor my question is how do you tell the difference between a Supermoto with or someone made it's a Supermoto

I did some more research nationwide after purchasing the bike. While I was able to find a few comparable deals, I didn't find anything drastically lower in price. Any super moto experts out there? What do you think? Decent deal or did I get ripped off? Thanks for watching?

definitely a decent deal! I would have offered 3k as well that would have been a killer deal. but these things sell all the time for 4k. some people want 5k and up but they're out of their minds x). lol great vid!.

I got someone asking 3050 for a 2009 with 20 k. Is that a lot of miles for this bike. He also states he adjusted valves, replaced radiator and did all service work himself. I don’t like that he messed with the valves but I should be able to make it right. Right.
Seems like a good price as long as everything checks out. See if he'll take $2500. Lol.
How many miles? I'm looking at a 06 with 9k miles the guy wants to trade for my 93 4runner it has a completely rebuilt engine Doug thorley headers & some other new parts. Do you think it's worth an even trade??

Nice! There's a 2014 here with only 500 miles (supposedly very good condition) that the guy will let go for $4k. Drag you're way out on the east coast. I think these would make an awesome first bike. A bit tall (depending on your height), but very light and nimble. Enough power to have fun, but not so potent that it'll kill you (unless you're just reckless. Lol). I saw a 2008 at a local shop in SoCal. 4K miles, they want 4500. Bike looks bad ass. I was thinking about offering 3k cash. Looks clean. I have a 18 Indian Springfield. Just want a bike to fart around on. The Nada is 2600-3800.

Thanks for checking out the vid! Since buying this a few months back, I've seen some pretty nice ones in the $4k. Arguably better deals given condition and mileage. It's hit or miss though. At the time I picked this up, there were very few options out there. Good luck with your search!

The only reason why the triple bar clamp cracks is when it suffers a drop and the bars cause it to break under great force.
In combination with the new headlight I would suspect this to be true of this particular bike.

I had commented on this bike and the cracked triple clamp being caused by a drop at some point in its past.
That would be an MOT testing failure in the UK so I would get it checked out personally.

I'd say that's fair not a rip-off but not a deal. It doesn't have the original Supermoto tires which is a good chunk of money. That alone I would have said $3200-3300. Yet they hold value so well just sell it for 200dollars less in 2 years. Whatever. XD
