This song featured Neil Cole (as Djum Djum) on vocals, and it was rumoured that the lyrics were in an unspecified African language; it was later revealed that they were simply gibberish, or "Djum Djum talk" - from Wikipedia.
I played this and several Leftfield tunes in clubs at the southernmost coast of Africa at the turn of the century, they got loads of love. Still great for house parties with informed music lovers.
We had to nag the DJ at a club to play this back in 1999. He didn't think people would like it, boy was he wrong. That floor filled up so fast I'm sure there were at least 250 people in a tight club all tripping balls and the whole club was shaking. Even outside you could feel that something special was going on here
I took this album on a dive trip to Egypt in about 98 - the Egyptian guys working on the boat went absolutely nuts for this track - always asking to borrow my MiniDisc player and played this on continuous loop. I'd assumed that they could understand what the guy was saying or something .... derp!
Whoever was strumming that guitar like that was a real boss! Sounds so damn good! Bless my uncle deanos soul spirit and energy for introducing me to this music 🙌 gone but never forgotten he will always live on through me till the day i die 💙
Desde 2007 me gusto este tema lo escuché en cassette, le llamaban changa africana e Caracas ahorita 2024 suena y se relacionan con otras mezclas y el afro dance.
I believe I have bought many friends here when it was first released back to the mid90s, use to listen to this with my hairdresser together fantastic sounds like to go back to the old school days good memories with fantastic music and friendly people all around the world 😅
@nefertifer It's not a language. It's actually a common thing in this particular African dialect to simply speak gibberish. Leftfield and the vocalist on this song have both admitted to this in interviews.
MaestroDraven Arite mate how u doing,Kain it’s been 7 years since you made this comment but I’m willing to offer you a tenner + half bottle. In exchange for u sending me a word document of the lyrics of the gibberish. Me and you could learn it together? And make it the best party trick ever (that would impress everyone) anyway get in touch and I’ll send u my deets. I’m being serious name ur price
Taken by surprise by the size of my brain Knowing all the time all the lies all the games Thinking up a storm when it storms it's going to rain Taking what's mine all the time, all the time Take some for yourself It's all good for something And when there's no more to give The window will shine in the light On what's left for me Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind That you've got to remember You've got to remember, your name Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind That you've got to remember That you've got to remember, your name Staggering around, can't find a place to sit down Nothing suits my ass Toast to some champagne of pain I know you can bring us all a bottle Remember the time when time was a friend And you could make him lend you a hand Now there's a place where taking takes place And time just gets in your way Take some for yourself It's all good for something And when there's no more to give The window will shine in the light On what's left for me Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind That you've got to remember That you've got to remember, your name Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind That you've got to remember You've got to remember, your name Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind That you've got to remember You've got to remember, your name Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind That you've got to remember You've got to remember, your name Yeah, take some for yourself It's all good for something And when there's no more to give The window will shine in the light Take some for yourself It's all good for something And when there's no more to give The window will shine in the light On what's left for me What's left for me
I'm trying to listen and write down the djum djum talk since its not available anywhere online. It's a painstaking process though. Has anyone else attempted to do this?
This is the definition of a MODERN dance song. And yes, i write this comment in 2024

One of the greatest Clubb hits from the 90's ... & it's still working great! No Remix needed ;)
The original B-Side remix is awesome

A pretty similar feeling with Matrix's Zion apocalyptic & futuristic battle chill vibes. Dark, but chilling. Nice.

@@mathewness7649 I actually memorized the song! didnt know it was gibberish! still love it... hard floor hitter!
Taken by surprise by the size of my brain
Knowing all the time all the lies all the games
Thinking up a storm when it storms it's going to rain
Taking what's mine all the time, all the time
Take some for yourself
It's all good for something
And when there's no more to give
The window will shine in the light
On what's left for me
Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind
That you've got to remember
You've got to remember, your name
Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind
That you've got to remember
That you've got to remember, your name
Staggering around, can't find a place to sit down
Nothing suits my ass
Toast to some champagne of pain
I know you can bring us all a bottle
Remember the time when time was a friend
And you could make him lend you a hand
Now there's a place where taking takes place
And time just gets in your way
Take some for yourself
It's all good for something
And when there's no more to give
The window will shine in the light
On what's left for me
Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind
That you've got to remember
That you've got to remember, your name
Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind
That you've got to remember
You've got to remember, your name
Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind
That you've got to remember
You've got to remember, your name
Knowin' your mind, knowin' your mind
That you've got to remember
You've got to remember, your name
Yeah, take some for yourself
It's all good for something
And when there's no more to give
The window will shine in the light
Take some for yourself
It's all good for something
And when there's no more to give
The window will shine in the light
On what's left for me
What's left for me
Thanks forthat
