  • The Masterclass Video Series: expressive.photography/dodgin...
THE VIDEO: I haven't been out with my camera now for over 6 weeks, it's the longest I have gone without making a photograph for years. Part of that has been the major COVID-19 lockdown here in the UK and I have wanted to be respectful to the folks who cannot get out right now. The other reason is I was finishing my Dodge & Burn Masterclass Videos, and as anyone who has made a project like that knows, they take a lot of work.
In this video I revisit the images I took the last time I was out to try and see what I can make of them. This was spontaneous and without practice, so what you see is me working it out as I go along.
Perhaps my approach will prove useful to anyone who is struggling to find their creativity.
    Thanks for your support.

great space to photograph, and great images as always. i wondered about blending two different shutter speeds blended - there is a natural break in the middle of the frame...it's so intriguing to see how different minds see the same images.

Thanks Alister, I have learned a lot from your channel. And I dont know if there is anyone like me who is always struggling with composition when I was on location, that's why I would rather choose 2:3 to shot and crop the images when I processed them.

An honest spontaneous creative discussion. Interesting use of local and final global adjustments. Well “exposed” , if you pardon the expression , Alister

Another very helpful video. Over the last few months you have demonstrated that how you process an image is how you feel about that image on that day and not how you necessarily felt when you pressed the shutter button. This approach certainly works for me and advocates a delay of at least a few weeks between processing and capture. In my case, many months.

As much as I enjoyed the content of this video, I could have been mesmerized just on the drone images of this beautiful area!

Lovely drone footage. I agree, the icy stream looks incredibly beautiful, and you captured that beauty in your images. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and images.

The location and conditions for this video are amazing! Thank you for going through the whole process from the field to choices and processing just using lightroom, it was inspiring and educational for me. I need to watch more of your videos!

What a wonderful location! And it made me immediately want to dive back into my frozen river photos from some weeks ago! Thanks a lot for sharing!

A cracking wee scene well spotted and caught. I like the 16-9 as it conveys the "flow" through the frame as water makes it's merry way onwards.

Glad to hear you getting the jab Alister; the sooner we start emerging from this the better, 'tis a richt scunner! I particularly like the 16:9 version, but what an intriguing location - that was properly hard frost to build ice like that around running water.

Hey Alister - on your site and in the vid the cover of the guide has "lightrooom". First time I've seen my favourite cow based photo manipulation software get some love.

Very interesting to see your process, and how you start with creating a consistent feel to the photos.

Fascinating. But I don't understand why you need to do it through Zoom? Couldn't you just record the video edit it together and put it on UA-cam?
