    Really enjoyed this video guys, thank you. Very interesting to see how the image can be worked to different ends and it validates my processing methods which were already given freedom by Alister’s previous video tutorials/rambles 😊. My photography as a result has never been so rewarding. Thanks again.

      Derrick - Totally agree with you about how rewarding making images has become. My whole approach to photography has shifted since discovering Alister. I put down my camera and revisited/reprocessed my images after studying his Luminosity and Contrast and Lightroom ebooks. He has given me the confidence to submit my images to places that I never would have before. I highly recommend Alister's ebooks. They are the only ones (and there have been plenty) that I read cover to cover and utilized his concepts.

    Very enjoyable guys. The Leaf in Ice is a fantastic image. Both takes were of course quite valid. I think Alister’s version looks like the cover of a photography magazine and Adam’s looks like the cover of an art magazine.

      Expressive Photography sorry, i did not intend for that to be a dig. I’m working in lab these days as you are and I’m sure I would have had a similar take to yours. All that luscious yellow and ice tones. And contrast to make it pop. Because we can. But Adam’s restrained low contrast pastel feel delivers a very painterly result. Very calm. It’s almost like “quiet light.” Haha. Nothing wrong with either approach. Please yourself.

    Thank you both for this VLOG and processing comparison, proving that photography is an ART created by an individual. A few years ago I submitted some images to an Australian photography group competition for a couple of years. I found myself trying to process the images to impress the judges. All 3 years I managed to get BRONZ awards for all of my submissions. I found that the images that received SILVER or GOLD in the competition all had a very similar look. It was clear that the judging was quite bias and subjective. There were also comments that I disagreed with. I decided that my photographic art was mine and if I was satisfied that was enough & I have not entered a competition since 2017. I continue to learn from great photographers such as Adam and yourself Alister. I try different things and continue to learn and enjoy the experience of taking landscape images, if people like my work it's great but I'm not bothered if people don't like it. Looking forward to a future episode. Cheers for Australia🇦🇺

    So interesting - yes as time goes on I seem to like flatter images - or maybe it is the influence of a couple of years of watching and enjoying Adams work. There is a strong support of heavily edited images with strong contrast etc... by people on our local community pages... and I think it shows their unawareness of photo editing apps tbh and just how simple extreme use of the dehaze and clarity tools are.

    I am curious as to how using the Lab color space you are working in luminosity only? Is this in Photoshop or Lightroom? I always display my color and luminosity information in Lab values in Lightroom, but have to adjust saturation after applying exposure and contrast adjustments. I know that in PS you can use the luminosity mode when employing a curve so saturation isn't affected regardless if you work in Lab or RGB.

    • @Alister_Benn
      @Alister_Benn  4 роки тому

      Hi Steve. You can only work in LAB in Photoshop, Lightroom is RGB only. In LAB, instead of three colour channels (Red, Green & Blue) we have one channel just for Luminosity (L) and two color channels, A + B. A is Green/Magenta, B is Blue/Yellow - I'll do a video on it soon to explain, as it is awesome. Only in LAB can you change contrast in the L channel, without affecting hue.

    Alister and Adam - Thank you both for different your takes on my ice leaf image. It was interesting to see how differently you interpreted the image. I processed it similar to Alister with more contrast. My final version is in portrait orientation, rotated ninety degrees to the right. It visually "fits", like a piece in a puzzle. I tend to do this when the image does not demand strict reality. When you think about it, the camera is nothing more that a light recorder and captures none of what we see and the experience when taking the image.
