    All of your WIP's are amazing. You sure are ambitious!!! I want to thank you for your video about the lap stand you use. I developed arthritis in my left thumb and hadn't been able to stitch since the end of Dec. I ordered the lap stand and received it the first week of March. I am now able to stitch with just using my right hand. It is a little slower, but I am loving it. Thanks again!! Keep up your beautiful stitching.

    You definitely fly with the Christmas afghan unless you are frogging and then it's considerably slower than stitching. I love love love your new afghan. It was hard to tell on camera. How much of that was bead? I had to sit on my hands when you showed Primavera in the City. Must. Not. Buy. Can you work on 46ct without magnification? I've never seen small counts like that in person. I bought Kingdom of Books because of you. I haven't started it, but it's on the list.

    • @Handworkmaniac
      @Handworkmaniac  Рік тому

      Hi Julie!!! You should definitely avoid that frogging stuff, lol!! There are no beads in the first square of the afghan, but there will be in the next square! I wear my 3.5 reading glasses for all of my stitching, even on 28 ct. But I can see the 46 ct just as well as I can see the 28 ct with them. When I work on 56ct, I have a pair of stronger reading glasses that I use. And if it is night I have to have my floor lamp right over my shoulder shining right on it. Yay Kingdom of Books!!!!! And you know it will only be a matter of time until one of those city of rabbit seasons ends up at your house . . . .

    All your stitching is so beautiful! I was wondering if you could explain something. I notice that most stitchers on youtube stitch on high count fabric (for example: the crochette a gogo on 46 count doing one strand of floss over two fabric threads). Wouldn't it be easier to stitch on 23 count using two strands of thread over one square? I use 14 or 18 count aida and two strands of floss over one square for everything. I tried 22 count once and found it to hard to see where I was going. Just wondering about this. Thank you for your wonderful channel and your demeanor is so soothing and calming.

      Thank You Linda! I know a lot of stitchers would rather stitch with one strand of floss instead of 2 strands. And they choose 46 ct because they like the coverage of 1 strand on 46 ct. A 23ct aida would be the same size stitches but I think they only make 22 ct, and 2 strands would be way too thick on 22 ct, you would have to use 1 strand. But some stitchers prefer the look of linen over Aida on the finished product.

    Those afghans are amazing. Could you show or tell me how you finish the back - is it backed somehow or how do you make it presentable 😊

    • @Handworkmaniac
      @Handworkmaniac  Рік тому +1

      Hi Kathryn! No, there is no backing on them, you just have to try and keep your back as neat as possible :) For the edges, you leave a generous unstitched border and then you pull the long threads out to make a fringe.

    Really enjoyed your videos. Would love to see the back of the afghan. Would love to do one but unsure how to do back and how to finish. I know the loop start but how do you tie off

      Hi Mary lou! I will try and remember to show the back next time. To end off, I just flip over to the back and run my thread under 3-4 stitches that are nearby and then cut the thread. I try and keep the back tidy, but it is still going to look like the back of a project :)

    Your projects are amazing. Can I ask please… The linen that you use seems to have nice even threads. I am just starting to stitch on linen and it is a little intimidating. What is your go to? Ty

      Thank You LeAnn! I love evenweave fabric like Lugana and Jobelan. They are very similar to linen, but are a man-made fabric with perfectly even threads. They are a great way to get started on linen-type stitching. My favorite actual linens are BeStitchMe, Lakeside Linens, Picture This Plus, and the plain Zweigart colors. But real linen is always going to have "slubs" in it and places where the threads are thicker or thinner. Part of the charm of it :) I just stitch like normal and I don't care that where the threads are thicker the x's are bigger, and where the threads are thinner, the x's are smaller. It all looks amazing in the end :)
