Handheld video is pretty tricky, but if you crank up the stabilization it can work. Haven’t tried on a gimbal, I normally use wide lenses on gimbals but it could likely work in some controlled situations.
@@iphoneographers I’m thinking of short clips of wildlife at 120 fps. The stabilization doesn’t have to be perfect, just better than or equivalent to the alternative, which is a mirrorless camera with a telephoto lens.
Basically it's 2x zoom, and if use the iPhone 1516 telephoto 5x zoom lens, it's 10x zoom? Then if use it on the Galaxy 23U 10x zoom, wouldn't it be 20x zoom?480mm yeah?
You can see some of that look with the sample portrait photos they have, but the negative there is you’ve got to be 10 to 15 feet away. So it would need to be a fairly large studio space or shooting outside.
Yeah it would not be my first choice in low light since the lens goes on the 5X camera and that sensor is smaller and has an f/2.8 aperture. I try to use the main camera with a teleconverter in those shooting scenarios. However, if a stage is brightly lit at a show then it could work. You can do a test just using the 5X and see how it holds up for you as the lens does not cause any light loss.
I did a video on that lens and I like it, but it’s hard to use because the focus is really tricky. So there’s really no comparison from a usability perspective, if you get that Sandmarc lens in sharp focus it looks good though, but then if you have a moving subject it can go out of focus quickly.
Blake, will you be looking at Moment and Freewell’s new cases for the 16 Pros? I’m curious how the cases will be with the new cut out that case manufacturers have to add (or delete) to support the camera control button.
I talked about the Moment case a little bit in a previous slomo video, and I really like it it works great. And I just got a freewell case. I’ll probably do a video about different cases or at least how they work with the lenses. Overall I like them though.
Basically, where we're at now is that you could reshoot the montage intro to 1980s best soap Dallas from your roof care of some highly capable Swiss engineers. It's not hoverboards and flying cars but I'll take it.
Looking for a case for iPhone16 Pro Max. I currently have a PolarPro for my 12 and it’s survived several drops and the ND filter is great. I was waiting for the new PolarPro to come out but based on this would you recommend Reeflex ?
The nice thing about ReeFlex is they use a 17mm mount, which is the same as Sandmarc. And then of course there are cages that accept that mount as well, so it’s more or less universal. But if you’re not worried about lenses then any will be fine, I like the new Moment case quite a bit.
@@iphoneographers thank you - tempted by lenses but the way I shoot they would slow me down. The upgrade from XR to 12PM was remarkable and reluctant to go back to lenses. Love the compressed space effects you get in your video though. That is something I would use a lot. ND filters are great though when required… which isn’t a lot in the UK. Direct sun light is the exception rather than the rule… not that there’s anything wrong with flat light 🙏🙏
Would likely stick to using the main 24mm sensor for that since it’s the best in low light, so this lens isn’t probably ideal. Add a 2X to that if you want a longer lens look. Not to say it couldn’t work, but I don’t have experience using it that way.
It’s designed specifically for the 5X. So while you could technically use it it won’t give you good results. They have a different tele designed for the 1X.

If I found a phone case that would accept both this zoom lens and Moment's Quicklock Filters (ideally in a color other than black) then I'd seriously be cooking with gas on my minimalist setup. Though theoretically if I added slits to one of the 17mm camera mounts, It might work, provided the quicklock filters have enough room to fit over. I'd even settle for gluing magnets to the darn thing.
Yeah that’s the trouble with different mounts, although I guess it’s not too different than traditional cameras where you have E mounts or L mounts, etc. to deal with.
