The album title Conflicting Emotions and its songs quite clearly reflect the way Split Enz members were going their seperate ways at the time. A great album like all the others.
Love this song, thanks so much for putting it on you tube x. I had the tape but lost it and it reminds me of a really wonderful time in my life, something nice to listen to and remember.
I long to see the other side of things Hung on the cliff, in search of something big I can't look down, I can only retreat Who knows one day I'll dive into the sea Here we all are sitting like fools Stuck by the rules of fate Is what we are what we've grown to believe Better the devil you know Live for the day we throw caution to the wind All we need is the courage to begin I might get hurt but never be scared again At once to feel the pleasure and the pain Into the city, into the city every day Into the city, piling through the factory gates It's not easy, it's not easy to escape All the decisions that you've already made I long to see the other side of things Hung on the cliff, in search of something big I can't look down, I can only retreat Who knows one day I'll dive into the sea Here we all are sitting like fools Stuck by the rules of fate Is what we are what we've grown to believe Better the devil you know
Stunning song, why isn't this super famous
Best song ever by split enz
haunting beautiful song that takes me back to college days at Iowa State
The vocals here - just so gorgeous. Only very few can produce vocal gold like this.
The most beautiful melodies here, in just one song.
This is my all time favourite, it reaches in and grabs at your heart!
A beauty from NZ
Brilliant track! 'Conflicting Emotions' was such an underrated album. This is Neil Finn at his brilliant best
Can't agree more
I remember the first time I heard this song -- sometime in the mid '80s. Was totally transfixed. Still love this song to this day. Neil at his best.
Thank you I think this - at times is my very favourite Split Enz song.
Top notch tune. Should be a radio standard...
My favorite Split Enz song.... thank you
What a song! It's timeless
From 2010 to 2020... your words still ring true.
Oh my gosh! I had forgotten all about this song. Awesome! :)
Gives me chills every time
Yes thank you so much! I haven't heard this in years!

tears...damn, the whole album is a masterpiece.
I totally agree.
Never heard this before . . .amazing song!
This is one the greats, not known enough about
I long to see the other side of things
Hung on the cliff, in search of something big
I can't look down, I can only retreat
Who knows one day I'll dive into the sea
Here we all are sitting like fools
Stuck by the rules of fate
Is what we are what we've grown to believe
Better the devil you know
Live for the day we throw caution to the wind
All we need is the courage to begin
I might get hurt but never be scared again
At once to feel the pleasure and the pain
Into the city, into the city every day
Into the city, piling through the factory gates
It's not easy, it's not easy to escape
All the decisions that you've already made
I long to see the other side of things
Hung on the cliff, in search of something big
I can't look down, I can only retreat
Who knows one day I'll dive into the sea
Here we all are sitting like fools
Stuck by the rules of fate
Is what we are what we've grown to believe
Better the devil you know
My all time favourite split enz track. Thanks Benkata for uploading it
Oh please please! Can you upload Bon Voyage? It's so gorgeous and I haven't heard it in years! Pretty please with Crowdies on top?
Do you know what album this is from? It's great!!!
Neil's songs were always better than Tim's.
Amazing - never heard before ! Just genius like all split enz / crowded house songs. With Neil at the helm, well there you go ! Just the best.
