Acoustic guitar player for 25 years here. I just inherited my wife's uncle's mandolin, and have had a desire to learn for years. This is a very helpful video. Now if I can just get past my "tiny fretboard/huge hands" issue, lol.
Been playing guitar for years as well. Got a mandolin and have just been doing chromatic exercises to get used to the scale of the instrument. It is quite an adjustment when you're used to having more real estate between your fingers. I think these exercises will help. They are boring and un-musical, but they work.
@@user-xk9md4yf9j Yeah, but he threw in some flashy licks and intros that make you feel good about your success when you play them. An ego booster, if you will. And he did it in 6 minutes. Good video for somebody seeking inspiration for his new mandolin.
@@MicahFoxxMusic So you're saying he's playing the b7 and 5th to make the chord D7? And the same for G7? Just playing b7 and 5th to make the chords. Leaving out the root and third?

I learned more from this video in 6 minutes than I have in many much, much longer videos. Great advice.
Absolutely wonderful lesson for a rhythm player like me. I'm looking forward to learning these parts and using them. Thank you very much!
Even an Old Mandolin Picker like Me can still learn some new tricks. (I think it all may be infinite?) Thanks for sharing.

Que the 'Ron Jeremy' jokes!
At 3:40 you play a C and an A and call it a D . Then you play an F and a D and call it a G. I don't get it.
He plays a D7 and a G7
I was just thinking the exact same thing, I came straight to comments hoping I would see something about it.

@@Rowen170 that is correct. “Shortcuts”, he calls them.
@@Rowen170 they aren’t technically chords, they are dyads.
