"Don't make a big deal out of it, just make everything work".. .That is an excellent piece of wisdom. Thanks, Mike.
Thanks Andy, Mike
Mike, I've been in the trades for 25 years and addicted to learning about all aspects of construction. I learn something new every time I watch your new video's. Please keep up the good work Sir! Merry Christmas!

I think that job required a very high skill level, you make it look easy, but it was more complicated than you let on. Perfect as usual.
Thanks Robert, I appreciate the kind words, Mike
I love your videos Mike. Been watching them 5 years plus now. I’m a kitchen /bathroom fitter and when I apply some of your techniques it’s helped me out great.
I also use your story board for tiling. When I’m coming across a doorway and I need the tile to follow the same pattern on the other side I mark the layout on a peace of timber line it up and mark the other side where my tile will land. My employee loves it and always uses it to see where they land.
Sometimes if you measured you can be wrong but the story pole is all ways right.
A big thumbs up to you Mike 👍
Thanks Mark, I appreciate that, Mike

Mike, you made a tricky job look easy. At least it would be tricky for a beginner, that's for sure. It goes to show how years and years of experience polish someone's skills - thanks as always for passing them along. I'm curious whether brick work came easily to you or if it took a long time to learn the skills? It looks to me as if in brick work it would be hard to "hide your sins," as you say in other videos, especially on the topic of stucco (combat finish, etc). I'd like to see a video where you talk about when, where, and how you learned masonry. Honest Mike might have some interesting things to add. Keep up the great work and happy holidays.
Thanks Bill, yea I'm thinking of making a video like that, I appreciate it, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Mike
Thank you Mike 🌺🌺🌺
Thanks Eman, Merry Christmas, Mike
Great job. Yes very good point about letting the homeowner pick out. I've learned over the years...to make recommendations only. Let them have the final say! Great job on the complicated steps.
Thanks Gibson, I agree, let saves a lot of aggravation, lol, Mike

LAY IT OUT DRY! Mike: What is your target thickness on your mortar, for steps like these? Blessed, peacefilled, prosperous 2022, from Brooklyn carpenter.
Hi Tod, well in this case I had to follow the old pattern so I had to make some a little tighter and some a little bigger to match, whatever works, happy new year. thanks Mike
that looked great!! I bet you're good at puzzles ;-) Putting all that together reminds me of a puzzle.
Thanks Sue, Mike
Things were better when they were worse…… priceless…. 👍
Thanks Evan, Mike
I often see buildings under construction or reconstruction and when they are adding to an existing old building, I will see a long dumpster that they order and it gets filled with hundred year old bricks from the old building and I notice that they are often surprisingly clean and free of cement. I hope they don’t just dump them somewhere
Hi Joe, yep they do sometimes I grab a few, thanks Mike
Merry Christmas Mike.
Thanks Edward, Merry Christmas, Mike
Great videos
Thanks JW, Mike
Good Job!
Thanks, Mike
Thank you, Mike! Looks so beautiful. I resurfaced my concrete steps and used quickrete patch/repair. It looked really nice till the water sat on the stairs and I even put a sealer on. All the new cement is gone. It’s like I never did it. I waited about 30 days before I sealed it. Any idea why this happened? Thanks for all these videos, Mike!
Hi Marni,, I never used the patch repair, maybe you didn't have the surface wet before you applied it, and I am not a fan of sealers in case you want to go over it again. I know a good masonry paint seals better, but sometimes it's a yearly thing to go over it in the spring, patches are patches, I hope it helps, mike
@@MikeHaduck Thank Mike, I’ll try again in spring. I never knew masonry could be so much fun! Merry Christmas, Mike!
Awesome job mike. Merry Xmas to you
Thanks Zack, Merry Christmas and happy new year, Mike
That looks beautiful Mike.
Thanks Lou, Mike
MERRY CHRISTMAS MIKE
Thanks Marshall, Merry Christmas, Mike
Exceptional work once again! Mike, what type of brick are you using there? Clay or concrete and why. You are such an inspiration to me. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your videos. Bless those hands and knees!
Thanks for the kind words Belle, I don't know what exactly he bought but I would say fired clay,? Thanks, Mike
The old brick vs new brick demonstration. “See that, things are better when they were worst” that 1960 brick will last a hundred years. Really made me smile! Excellent job it matches the house as perfect as can be expected. 💯
another theraputic video from Mike H Thank you mike!..could u talk about how they poured and built the old concrete buildings in a city..how did they make the forms and how did they do the ornamentals and design..1880's 1900's ..I go to google earth and look down into new york city and get really excited at the old cement buildings..I'm a carpenter.
Thanks Dave, maybe someday, bridges are interesting also, Mike
@@MikeHaduck yea why not..I cant fathom how they made those buildings..so cool never mind a giant bridge like the brooklyn bridger for example
merry christmas and happy new year mike
Thanks Darren, Merry Christmas and happy new year, also, Mike
Very informative as always Mike, have you ever done floating outdoor stairs? Thanx.
Hi Sluggo, I laid them on a floating slab so they are movable, if that's it, thanks Mike

Hi mike thanks for you videos. I bought some land in Tennessee. Planning on building a stone house. Could you do a video on the best way to do a wall assembly ? I’m thinking about doing 2 foot thick solid stone walls but if there’s a better way I would be happy to know. We have a lot of limestone out here so that way going to be my go to. Thanks
Hi kirk, I would say just like my video on conwy castle and I did one called " Early American stone work, " but I don't know with all the new codes if they will let you build like that, they will probly require plans from a architect or engineer, I would check around, thanks Mike
@@MikeHaduck thanks mike for replying. Rural tn they don’t have any restrictions. So I can build however I like! I’ll check out your video. Thank you
I see you are using a 1 Portland to 2 sand mix there. Would that be too hard for limestone or would that work just fine ? I saw your other videos about not worrying about using lime putty and how using Portland is a lot stronger. But I know you can’t use mortar that’s harder than the stone itself
Luv your videos I noticed you only added mud to the corner of the bricks ends not all the way I believe in the place I see u do it away across did you do that way to keep A little bit of a pitch and filled it in after thanks for add and hope you and your a happy Christmas
Hi Paul, Merry Christmas, yep the mud I put was only where I thought I needed it, Mike
Your the best
Thanks Dennis, I appreciate the kind words, Mike
perfect
Thanks strat, I appreciate the kind words, Mike
how do you fix a set of stairs where only the brick faces are falling apart? would a wire mesh and stucco work? The stucco alone seems to just fall apart after a season. Can we get 'vote for honest mike, I steal less' t shirts?
Hi Sunny, check out my video " brick steps repair ( part 2) Mike haduck. I think I will eventually get to get those tee shirts, lol, mike
Hey mike, I have a question. If you pause the video at 3:38 you can see an above view of the bricks. When you put the cement on the sides of the brick, you only put it on the outside of the brick and not on the whole thickness, why is that? Cheers!
Hi shoots, sometimes if it's too thick it moves the other brick around, it usually squeezes into place, it's a feel thing, if that makes sense, thanks Mike
Hey Mike. Can I hire you for a week to follow me round on DIY jobs reminding me "it ain't no big deal" and "just get it done"?
Hi Phil, lol, I need someone to remind me sometimes, lol, Mike
I like all the one liners in this video.. these jokes aren't recorded to history as they should be
Thanks Kyle, lol, Mike
Mike, do you wash down with acid afterwards? If so which brand do you prefer
Hi AA93, I rarely use it but some bigger jobs you don't have a choice, I have couple videos out called cleaning with acid, Mike haduck
👍👍
Thanks Rick, Mike
Mike, do you come to Pittsburgh?
Hi Jonez, I don't, but thanks for asking, Mike
6:16 I loved that, that’s where she belongs.
Thanks, Mike
Honesty Mike logic, $400 per hour.
Hi Matzi, I never met a rich mason, still driving my 89 chevy but happy, lol, Mike
Have to say, this job seems like a big deal…
Thanks Thomas, Mike
