I have played all the Castlevania series that Konami have released and my favorite is SOTN and Dawn of Sorrow. All I can say is that so far, the Netflix series have done great in terms of creating a story line. As a player, I also got tired of just whacking a Dracula super boss at the end of each game 😂…so these character add ons/twists are a must to make a good series.
I like aria of sorrow just a little bit more than the sequel. But otherwise great choices! You’re also right about the super Dracula thing getting a little tired to say the least lol
I'll say it again: if they would have called her "Annette" and Annette "Tera" they could have avoided so much drama xD Netflix Tera - close relationship with RIchter and Maria both, wears a green dress and has blonde hair like DXC, and becomes a vampire. She has dealings with a Dark Priest, too. (in-game Annette was kidnapped by demon-summoning priest Shaft, here Tera had a romance with the demon-summoning Abbot Emmanuel) Netflix Annette - has earthbending powers, does not have a close relationship to Richter and Maria from the get-go. (game Tera; name refers to the Earth naturally. Religious Sister [that's different here though], and has no immediate connection to Maria or Richter) Still could work though if they went with that angle, just saying. Would be cool if they actually had a Holy Woman in the group for a change
Apparently Netflix Castlevania show runners are so anti religion that not even one good guy can be found amongst the believers (either they’ll be demon worshipers in disguise like in season 1 , or they’ll straight up have sex with vampires lord and make demons as a hobby like Abbot Emmanuel and his body guard 😅 )
I know we're supposed to be sad that Terra's sister was turned into a vampire, but that look on her face when she reveals her is just too damn goofy! 🤣
Emmanuel already is Shaft, pretty much (being a Forgemaster is equivalent to Shaft's summonings in the game), his face and outfit are also similar (a few tweaks and colour change and he would look like Shaft)
Question. Is she (& Maria) descendants of Sypha’s side of the family? or is she just a speaker from another clan who just happens to know the belmonts?
It's explained in the show. She's from another clan of speakers from Russia. She came to France running away from the villain and had Maria with the priest. They met Richter in France. Juste had her take care of him when he was young by giving her money from his vampire hunting.
We all know we want our boy dracula wants to have time with his wife.. so maybe thats why they change the story a bit.. where dracula is not the main villian all the time... Just like on simon belmont they skip that part
In Castlevania 64 they have the Purifying item that can turn someone back if they've been bitten, but that never made sense to me as just being bitten isn't what causes you to turn, as the show showcases. You have to drink the vampire's blood. Also, I highly doubt they use anything from Castlevania 64. :(
I think this is one of the great parts of the Anime series. It's an adaptation which doesn't have to abide by the video game series. The adaptation expands beyond the original characters through voice acting and their different stories. The Castlevania Netflix series continues to define how video game adaptations should be portrayed

Richter is a man baby that’s told off by the race swapped DEI hero (main plot really is about her for some reason), he doesn’t know how or why his powers came to him because nothing really changed outside of getting mad. Annette’s back story is generic and actually makes no sense because her master was a vampire…on a super sunny plantation in the Caribbean. And she has magneto voodoo powers that make no sense other than “everyone has these powers of the ancient gods” except she’s the only one that has them specifically (which is not a thing in Castlevania). Then Maria is a generic “revolutionary” that seems to be the only one that cares about a revolution that isn’t even really happening. Juste got Luke Skywalker’d as a sad old man when he’s supposed to be a real highlight of the family tree, and he got introduced in a bar that is happy and having fun while somehow in the midst of a revolution lol the priest (Maria’s dad) is anything but a Christian, and it makes no sense why he wouldn’t just use his night creatures to fight the revolutionaries and just leave the vampire army out of it completely. And the head Templar is having ghey sex with an ancient Aztec vampire but thinks he’s a Christian. These people writing this don’t know Christianity, people, traits, characteristics, values, morals, convictions, nothing. And if they do they didn’t show it here. The mom sacrifice herself was stupid and unnecessary, they couldn’t even write proper set up for a truly moving sacrifice scene. She died for nothing and in a meaningless way. They got away because of plot, then Alucard shows up and kills the insufferable woke haired character which was completely unearned. Of course he could do it, but that kill belonged to anyone in the group, but they’re all too inept to have earned the kill, clearly.

@@Raumes513 I would recommend the original series, yes. Isaac was race swapped, but his character was deeper and had time to develop compared to Annette here. The first season of the original season is great and has decent parts throughout the rest of the other 3 seasons. I was much more invested there than here. And the finale of the final season is pretty damn good. I really enjoyed it over all. Nocturne is not worth your time. Much better off just watching like a highlight reel or something here on UA-cam when they show up because the story doesn’t make sense anyway. The pacing is off, the characters make really stupid decisions for no reason and the finale is a kick in the nuts.
"Terra" (Netflix) is a non-canon feminist character (like Lenore), who was added to the show (along with other race-swaps, lore-rewrites and diversity-created characters) to further emphasize the "strong women" in Castlevania. What is sad about this is that CV is full of actually strong women. This is not about making women strong, it is about making men weak by having women subjugate and humiliate them
There are shades of this, though I wouldn't say an awful lot. But, on the whole I find her to be superior the other characters on the protagonists side. Doesn't run around sad for two episodes just to randomly awaken SSJ2 like Richter. Isn't constantly abrasive like Annette. Isn't one note like Maria. (Though a lot of characters suffer from that, in fairness.) And on the villains side, she doesn't suffer from lack of meaningful screen time like Olrox. She's just genuinely nice and not obsessed with being a smartass like 80% of the other cast while having basically the only developed character arc in the season. Which comes back to the big issue this season has before you even get into the diversity shenanigans. It can't fit all it wants to do into the screentime it has because the writing isn't fulfilling 3+ purposes at once.
They also blended Tera with (videogame version of) Annette story-wise by making her the one to turn into a vampire/succubus.
Look-wise too. Annette is completely different here.
