I've been driven by a rally car driver, not at full tilt but.. yeah, it is just astounding. It is like a roller coaster and you just hang on for dear life.
The funniest thing is these drivers mostly don't actually know the track and don't know where they are going. That's why there are 2 people, 1 driver and a codriver which gives instructions for like a few corners in advance so the drivers can position the car. If you're interested check out some group B rally, which is still one of the best rally periods.
@Anonymous One not always, but there still will be sections of the stage that drivers that have driven on before, and they will have an advantage compared to newcomers
@Anonymous One Yea, pace notes are still definitely important, but they will still have a good idea of what is the ideal entry speed on certain corners, which area of the stage is safe to push, and which area of the stage is quite risky. Even a single pass on a stage helps in familiarity, and I believe it's still a good advantage to have
Those top class WRC+ series of cars max out at ~200 km/h, on those very fast corners they might be doing some healthy +160 km/h. Whistle is to signal people to get out of the way because there's 1000 kilograms doing Mach Jesus towards you.
If this look scary to spectators point of view, just have a look to Group B rallying (back in 1980's). On some stages it looked like "Moses divided the sea" situation, but instead of Moses, it was rally car dividing the sea of specators middle of the stage... ;)
Legal speed on those gravel roads in Finland is between 60-80 km/h. Add 100 km/h and you are driving ralley... and roads usually are around 6 meters wide. 😀
The reason it appears to be looping is because manufacturers teams have at least 3 cars with the same exact liveries or paint jobs. So it looks the same, but it's a different car with different drivers. Since these drivers don't make many mistakes, they are all hitting the turns at nearly the same speeds, going through the turns the same way (the fastest way). Combine that with the cameras at the same place, it's all gonna look the same. That's how precise these drivers are.
Plus they sometimes do 2 passes in some stages. We don't have a time frame for each clip, so the "repetition" might just be the 2nd pass on a different day.
the video was done in 2019 where ford and citroen only had 2 cars . now with citroen out there is only 3 teams left so many are swapping the 3rd driver and ford also has 3 cars now
Do you know what really gets me is the suspension set up! In a regular car you do these jumps and your bouncing up and down like on a trampoline but the soft damping that soaks up these violet contacts......... Wow!
Rally is always point-to-point, no circuits. What you think was repeating turns were different drivers taking the same corner/section. The drivers actually don't know the route and are essentially driving blind! The drivers get instructions from the second person in the car known as the navigator or co-driver (how sharp the next corner is, the length of it, whether to cut the corner or not - eg if brick wall on the inside you'll hear the co-driver shout "DON'T CUT!" etc). Their lives are in each others hands - it's pretty insane!
Experienced drivers know stages but there's no way to memorize everything. Stages are up to 30km long, that's a lot of unique corners, obstacles to remember. They both do recce(with regular car) on every stage pre-rally to map these details down, even stages are same as previous year. If there's a new big rock inside corner in the ditch, they need to know it how much to cut. Also today younger drivers watch hours and hours of in-car videos to reduce that experience gap they have. Rally is a sport where experience gives you massive advantage and so typically champs are around 30 years old with nearly decade WRC rallying under belt. However current champ is really something else by setting so many "youngest ever" records.
@@kognak6640 Thank you for typing that! ^^ I thought i was giving tmi so held back a bit hehe Yeah the drivers get to drive the course with the co-driver at a slow pace, that's how they get their notes - then on the day it go time!

they go on straight easily far over 250. The whistle is to mark a car incoming, this is also in every formula racing a normal procedure which is not to hear in normal videos, but every rime a car in formula is coming in into a box, a whistle is blow so everybody makes the track clear for the car.
Back in 2019 the teams were allowed to have 4 cars competing in the same race, that is why you think, it is the same car again and again. Now they decided to have only 2 cars/team to drive for points in the Series. The top speed is limited about to 125 mph. The engine is a hybrid, 1.6 Liter, 4 cylinder (turbo charged) with 380bhp/hp. With the rear wheels electric motors it produces about 500 bhp/hp. It does not look that fast on TV/Video but I guarantee, you`ll crap your self within 10 seconds in Rally Finland. Trust me, I`ve been there🥶🥵🤩😂🤣
rally finland is the fastest and hardest rally in WRC. average speed can be over 160km/h in those forests... :D if thats average speed... you can only think that they dont at least brake too much
These cars can barely do 200 km/h. And it's not necessary, as they can't reach this speed anyway. The fastest rally ever, had an average speed for all stages at 126.62 km/h. That was the 2016 Finish rally, by a Citroen DS3 WRC. Although you may think that Group B was the fastest, they weren't. First of all, modern WRC has just as much power. Second, they are way better balanced. The only thing the Group B wins on, is weight. You have to go to the 20rh place, to find the fastest Group B rally, with an average of 121.60 km/h, in the Argentinian rally. The car was an Audi quattro A2. Here's some statistics, from the fastest rally event: Stages: 24 Shortest: 2.31 km (SS1 Harju 1) Longest: 33.00 km (SS17 Ouninpohja 2) Slowest: 78.53 km/h (SS1 Harju 1) Fastest: 134.63 km/h (SS19 Pihlajakoski 2) So the fastest stage in the fastest rally ever, had an average speed of 134 km/h. The Argentinian rally: Stages: 18 Shortest: 22.45 km (SS8 Biff - Cholila) Longest: 108.58 km (SS3 Zapala - Rahue) Slowest: 85.61 km/h (SS7 Lago Guillermo - Los Repollos) Fastest: 189.53 km/h (SS1 Fray Louis Beltran - Valle Azul)
Those are not loops. Certain teams have multiple representatives. Like Toyota, they have 4 racers, Hyundai have 3, Ford have 3 (I think, can't remember). Most here are Rally1 cars, the top most spec'd in the division. Only 3 manufacturers are signed (Toyota, Hyundai and Ford). Others compete in Rally2, Rally3, Rally4 because it's much cheaper and less powered. Skoda, Citroen and Volkswagen were part of Rally1 but now they don't.
rally1 cars today produces 500hp and top speed is about 200km/h...they are hybrid cars..insane drivers must say...reigning champion kalle spends his sparetime in driftcars on track

It's more like 180-200 km/h. They really don't need the high top speed. Fastest rally evebt ever, had an average speed if 126 km/h, for all the stages.
New subscriber here, and I was noticing your little mushroom on the shelf. Is that something you were given or made? Does it have a story? I really like your reaction videos. They're not looping stuff, it's a short course and they're taking laps. I think the whistle might be to warn spectators that a car is coming. Protect your camera lens with a clear UV filter or similar.
