I started out putting my ink swatches in a notebook, but you’re right about moving them around! I started swatching cards alongside the book. If you haven’t already, I recommend buying ink samples before getting bottles or cartridges (for the larger cartridge packs of 20, anyway). That way, you can try lots for less money and only buy bottles and cartridge packs once you know you love them! I get most of mine from Goulet Pens and Yoseka.
Thank you for sharing you wisdom fountain pen friend 🌟🕺🏼 I’ve started to realize that bottles can add up in price (but also quantity of ink), so I’m thinking of setting myself some strict rules around burning through a sample first before even considering buying a bottle 🤣
I just got my first roll of washi tape for Christmas and I'm really liking it a lot. I find that I enjoy just getting straight to journaling without tinkering with stickers, stamps, or other pretty decorations. A pretty thin washi tape placed down on the line separating one day from the next - now that is something I can do really quickly and simply. I even just store pre cut washi tape on a ruler in the tech organizer that I keep my pens and other "purse" or tech essentials. Always fun to see your updates and how you're exploring and experimenting with fountain pens, inks, and papers. I don't do fountain pens, but you can easily find 3 or maybe 4 different gel pen refills that I can put in just about any of my pens. Thanks for creating such a welcoming place for us pen, paper, and planner nerds can chat. May you have a blessed 2023! 😊 *deeeeep breath* Also go see Puss in Boots: The Last Wish if you haven't already. I just saw it today and it was so incredibly good and fun and jam-packed with all sorts of things you can watch about it because it was just done so well. 😄🤩😁
Omg thank you for the movie recommendation, I’m always at a loss at what to watch so I’ll be looking for this next movie night 🙌🏻 I’m glad your washi roll is working out!!
I've also changed my journals after my last video about my set up of journals for 2023. I thought I was the only one hahah :) thank you for your video, it was really interesting to hear!
I don't tent to swatch my ink. I just write the Quick Brown Fox in a few languages and compare that. I find swatching a bit wasteful, might as well work on my handwriting a bit instead, and if the difference in colour doesn't show up in written text, they're not different enough to begin with.
I hear you, I also find writing out a sample gives the best impression of how the ink will look. I’ve also found that sometimes swatches can look totally different than when you write with the ink!
I actually don't need to swatch my fountain pens. I have 10 fountain pens now (which is crazy and I'm not planning to buy any more). I have 4 colors of ink ( I use the Kaweco cartages) - Grey, Black, Brown and Green. I use each ink for two pens- one for Fine nib and one for Medium nib, because I love them both and couldn't decide what I love better. So I have 2 pens for Green, 2 pens for Brown, 2 pens for grey and 4 pens for black. The additional 2 are for different models of pen but in the same nibs (F and M). I'm not planning to buy any more inks (really feel great with what I have), nor pens. My favorite at the moment is Kaweco Caramel Brown Ink. I love it so much!
(Apologies for the following rambling) Can you provide a link to your sketchbook? I sketch with all kinds of inks and I’m trying to find a new sketchbook type. I’ve been using the spiral bound type sketchbooks because they open flat, but I don’t really care for the feel of the spirals. I was hoping to find a journal with onion?/rice? paper because I used to draw on architectural rolled-type sketch paper (it’s translucent) or vellum and I think onion/rice paper would have a similar feel. So, I’d like to try the sketchbook you’re using. - Ok- maybe you can help (further)… I was hoping to find a travel journal that could hold a sketch pad. I’m open to the size of sketch pad (and thus journal cover size). Have you ever used a leather journal cover for a sketch pad size? I’ve even considered making my own (using the video you made). I’ve even considered a passport size journal because of the proportions - I think I can still sketch on a smaller sheet and passport size would give me lots of options. Have you ever used a passport size as a sketchpad? The A6 Superior Labor cover is really nice, and I’m considering using that for a sketch pad. I’d appreciate your thoughts on whether it would be a good size for sketching. - Thanks in advance!
Hey! So the MD paper is not thin paper (I think its around 80 gsm), so what you could do is get an a5 stalogy with blank paper and use that for sketching :) I really like their paper, it’s super thin, you just got to watch out because certain markers will bleed through the paper!
@@KaitlinGrey Oh wow, I didn't know that stalogy made a blank paper notebook! I use the regular gridded ones as my yearly journal and I love it. I'll need to try it with ink swatches because, if that works, that would make for the perfect ink playday notebook. I have a Tomoe River one from JetPens that is no longer available and I need a suitable replacement. Thanks for the tip!
@@KaitlinGrey thank you very much! And thank you for the tip regarding the markers. I’ll see if you have links to these (to help out your channel). Ok - I look forward to your next video!

You’re so welcome! Right now the a5 size is the only one with blank paper but hopefully they bring it out in the other sizes too 🤞🏻

thank you very much! And thank you for the tip regarding the markers.
I’ll see if you have links to these (to help out your channel).
Ok - I look forward to your next video!
