Man! The camera angles, the moments, the colors... all so very beautiful. And that router with template combo makes a very tidy groove. Who wants to go to the workshop??? Me! Thanks, friend, for another inspirational video. Cheers!

And the perfect music! That 80's synth wave was really cool
My Volkswagen T5 has the worlds worst cupholder....I need to fix this! So i am building a complete center console from scratch. this is part one: the tambour "glove box"
love it! I have a compass like that I was looking for a use for it. But there is no cup holder showing in your photo, I guess I'll have to wait for the Video to find out.
ua-cam.com/video/7VdXU2FxgzM/v-deo.html The compass still gets disturbed 😕 You see it moving back and forth, maybe the screw at the handle is already magnetised enough to cause this. You could check if you encounter the same behaviour with a messing screw that you used for the side?
Looks like a fantastic start. As it was coming to the end I was wondering "Where are the cupholders!?" I really appreciate your talent, creativity and skill.
Hey Laura. You just gave me a wonderful flashback. I don’t know if you’re aware, but back in the ‘70s and ‘80s when the big thing was to customize vans and trucks (here in USA), you’d see a bunch of consoles- with tambour! And of course, wall to wall shag carpet. No thanks. Anyway, when I got my first truck in the 80s it had a bench seat and, believe it or not, no cup holders. So my dads friend made me a tambour console with cup holders. Loved that truck, and you have brought me back to that time. So, thank you my dear for your increasingly amazing talent and irresistible loving nature you provide to all of us around the world. I’ve never not grinned while watching your videos. Many blessings from Texas. Troy
Love the cad work at the start (Cardboard Aided Design) Also love the honesty about the magnet screwup. That is the kind of mistake that everyone makes at some point.
I love the way you reacted when you realized the magnet would interfere with the compass. I was wondering the same thing, then there you were with your awesome reaction. I want to be able to react like that to my mistakes someday. I love this, your videos are amazing.
Even though the console is only half finished, it's already amazing. ❤️ Find the idea with the compass also, apart from the great optics, absolutely fantastic. Especially for traveling with an unknown destination. And I love how you can laugh at yourself, anyone who cannot do that has more problems than a non-functioning compass.
Great film. Love the magnet mistake. The console looks so cool, creamy like butter. I think you're now going to have to do an entire van makeover. : ) Mahalo for sharing! : )
She says "I have an idea..." and I get chills because you know it will be good. Then, as a pilot, I see "FAIL" and we have a compass issue.... Oh RATS, but fixed! Goodness but on my trips to/from Hawaii every week this is entertaining. Please keep it up
It's never a mistake if you learn from it. A brilliant idea and high time to got round to it. All in all a very worthwhile day. Loved the whole process. Please adopt me as a clean up boy. LOL
Really nice console so far. The felt in the channel was a nice alternative to magnet. Looking forward to part 2. I would recommend felt on the curve piece around the shifter and along any other surface the wood comes in contact with the plastic to minimize squeaks.
Beautiful work. The compass is a nice touch but it made me grin. I had an uncle who always put a compass in every car he owned. I never understood it. But I didn't have to. It made him happy.
I've been subscribed to your Patreon page for more than a year but only for $1, and I honestly can't wait to bump it up more after following you for so long. The only thing that's holding me back is being on a really tight budget as a student, and I really just wanted to contribute whatever I could and not leave you completely unpaid for the amazing builds and content you upload! This build right here is another big reason why I love your videos is you have a very "normal" problem and you put so much creativeness with simplicity and such a big dose of personalization to "solve" these problems while being so resourceful as well. Love it!
Your creativity, is amazing. The constant development of your skills, truly a inspiration to many. You give wonderful examples of reduce, reuse, repurpose. A lesson we all need to remember, in this disposable world.
In my country we have a saying...,,only who s not working it s not mistaking"...so, don't worry...as long as a remedy is found, nothing is lost... anyway the outcome it s ... awesome nd brilliant!
Solltest dich nicht schämen Leute aufzufordern zum "subscribe". Es ist wie es ist, du bist auf UA-cam und vor allem Dank Abonnenten kannst du so weitermachen! Sehr schönes Teil, übrigens
Congratulations Laura, I learned a lot from you and your videos. and I got the courage to make my channel. eternally grateful. greetings from Brazil.😃🇧🇷👏
Beautiful design and very practical. I would have like to see more on your stage of creating the cardboard proto. Your videos are always the highlight with my morning tea.
you could put the magnet on the bottom of the box at the other end where the wood would have the metal stop to contact it when closed if the felt slips.
I love all your projects but this one has a roll top, which I've loved since I was a kid and a really nice quality whiskey compass...awesome thing that should be in all cars.
This is a very cool project. I love the cardboard template that you made and the sliding door/lid. The design is genius, to be sure. I look forward to part two. Thanks for the video.
That is one of the greatest mistakes ever made. I have done things like that before and I am glad you left it in the video. Thanks for showing me how to make a simple roll top. The plastic one in my wife's car broke and now I know how to replace it.
Really good looking combinaton of Wood and screws 😁👍 I also Like the Idea of a non working compass this makes your Van a bit like a vessel preowned by Jack Sparrow
Excellent start and very cool! Center consoles are personal. I build my own as well. There's no going wrong that way. Well, the magnet thing...... ROFL!!! Too funny 🤣!! Looked like a great idea to me too!! I'll wait for the rest of the build... this is cool 😎!
The compass thing reminds me of when I found a bike bell with a compass in it for my touring bike and very excitedly bought it, only to realise it steadily pointed at the magnetic closure of my handlebar bag!
I usually find little “fails” or oops in many video builds on UA-cam. I completely missed this one🤦🏻 Not faulting anyone as I have had plenty of them myself and I’m sure I’ll have plenty more. Some of the fun is overcoming little challenges and creating something you are proud of. Great project. It not only repairs a poor design, it upgrades it as well and makes it your own. 👍😎 I learned a few things as well.
I went through something similar years ago in my van. I got a milk crate and 2 - 3"pvc pieces of pipe for cupholders. They work great - I like yours better - lol
Hi, amazing project and amazing result! Can I suggest you to remove the screw used for latch to the magnet? as you can see, there is a little compass deviation. Of course, after installation you need to calibrate the compass due too the iron car frame. 😛 I am very happy to follow your channel. See you soon.
That turned out so awesome!!! I have been needing to fix a center console for a long time as well, your excellent piece makes me wanna get on it now!!!
cool project. An idea hit me. Instead of placing the magnet at the top of the tambour as you did, drill a hole on each side of one slat of the tambour opposite the closing handle. Possibly the bottom slat would be a good choice. Then place a piece of steel in a drilled hole on each side of the box directly into the groove that would line up with the magnet when the lid when it is closed. Even though it would move the magnet(s) away from the compass, testing for magnetic interference would still be required before hand. I want to see how the entire project turns out. I like it.
Amazing craftship and really satisfying (I don't want to say craftmanship obviously)
I like this woman. When she makes a mistake, she shows it.
And when she is happy, her smile invades my screen.
Thank you.

Thanks M! Can‘t wait until we can hang out in the shop together again. It’s been too long!!!
@@laurakampf Agreed 💯

For the longest time German cars had no cup holders out of the principle that you should be focused on driving 😄

This design gives me the impression of a luxury car from the 80's. The quality is remarkable and your build was fun to watch. Thanks
Love the cad work at the start (Cardboard Aided Design)
Also love the honesty about the magnet screwup. That is the kind of mistake that everyone makes at some point.
Hahaha
Really digging the synthwave music of this one 🎶
I wondered what CAD Design stood for, now I know Cardboard Aided Design .. 👍
This looks stunning. Only one problem now, you need to make the whole dashboard in wood.
I don't think that's a problem. Of course I'm not the one who has to build it so...
Vw woody
Ohh yea. Steering wheel, gear shift might be nice additions.
yeah I agree, she needs to rebuild the whole dashboard now
Geht rid of all the Plastik in this Carl!
I love the way you reacted when you realized the magnet would interfere with the compass. I was wondering the same thing, then there you were with your awesome reaction. I want to be able to react like that to my mistakes someday. I love this, your videos are amazing.
Ich drücke mich seit 1nem jahr vor dem gleichen Projekt für meinen T5. Schön zu sehen das du es gemacht hast.
I love your videos. Your smile, even when it goes wrong, is lovely to see. I just wish your videos were longer, I love watching you work so happily.
Even though the console is only half finished, it's already amazing. ❤️

Can't believe anyone watching your channel and not subscribing. You are the best
I love the way you prototype with cardboard, super smart and practical!
I love the customization skills you're applying to your daily drive.
I love seeing your prototype process! Nothing too fancy, just cardboard. But cut and glued into the right shape and size!
Great film. Love the magnet mistake. The console looks so cool, creamy like butter. I think you're now going to have to do an entire van makeover. : ) Mahalo for sharing! : )

I started giggling when you were adding the magnet. Part of why I love you so much is how you show the "oops" so well.
Big fun Laura! Please remove the screw also, because it's magnetic too. You see a slight movement when it reaches the side of the compass!
that console is looking fantastic cannot wait to see the rest of it completed.
Really nice console so far. The felt in the channel was a nice alternative to magnet. Looking forward to part 2. I would recommend felt on the curve piece around the shifter and along any other surface the wood comes in contact with the plastic to minimize squeaks.
You really surpassed yourself on this one, Laura. Soooo pleasing to watch.Thank you!!!
The screw heads are in line...🥰...! My OCD fell in love with you!
Replacing the steel screws with brass really elevated it - it looks really good
Beautiful work. The compass is a nice touch but it made me grin. I had an uncle who always put a compass in every car he owned. I never understood it. But I didn't have to. It made him happy.
That’s all the reason he needed :)

Don‘t worry about Patreon! Enjoy being a student and drink a coffee or a beer more rather than bumping up the support :)
This is really nice! I love seeing close-ups of your hands, they are beautiful!
Your creativity, is amazing. The constant development of your skills, truly a inspiration to many. You give wonderful examples of reduce, reuse, repurpose. A lesson we all need to remember, in this disposable world.
I love tambour doors and you make it look very possible for me to follow. Your skills are like tambour parkour! Extremely good. Thanks L
Beautiful work. I can’t wait to see the rest of the build.
That was crazy satisfying to watch. Love the look of the finished product!
I really like how you often combine these different types of material and it always harmonize. Pretty good project
oohh Laura! this is a good one, staring out so tidy with the tambour roller too, cant wait to see it with charger and cup holders!
This is a stunning piece. Thanks for showing the magnet fail. I would make the same mistake for sure.
Looking good Laura. Looking forward to Part 2. All the best.
The wood comes out so impressive and nice!!! And the project is a good one too, I think! We are homeworkers, we solve our problems ourself!
WOW - that is incredible !!!! WELL DONE!!! It is just AWESOME!!
In my country we have a saying...,,only who s not working it s not mistaking"...so, don't worry...as long as a remedy is found, nothing is lost... anyway the outcome it s ... awesome nd brilliant!
I wish I had someone like you in my life. Love your content.
Loved the "damn it" with the magnet mistake!Always great projects Laura. You are an inspiration to us all.
Beautiful! I'm so happy to have discover your channel! All ideas and your work are stunning. I'm starting now with old videos..
Great project. Every van needs a console with cup holders. Great lesson on CAD for design. ( cardboard aided design of course)
Solltest dich nicht schämen Leute aufzufordern zum "subscribe". Es ist wie es ist, du bist auf UA-cam und vor allem Dank Abonnenten kannst du so weitermachen! Sehr schönes Teil, übrigens
you've inspired so many of my 4x4 sleeping and living upgrades, keep up the good work love seeing all the van, moto and other transport builds!!
What a fantastic project! Thanks for walking us through it.
Congratulations Laura, I learned a lot from you and your videos. and I got the courage to make my channel. eternally grateful. greetings from Brazil.😃🇧🇷👏
Looks very cool - the black with the mahogany is a great contrast. Cheers Laura and thanks for sharing another awesome video. Happy Sunday :)
So great to see your work everytime! Thanks for sharing!
LOVE IT!!! I want to see a whole build series for the interior now. MOAR! :D
Gotta love that high tech CAD design process you used. You know, Cardboard Aided Design.
looking forward to the second part. Cool box.
Your projects are always different and entertaining 🚙
So much love from someone in Cologne to Laura in Cologne :D
Gosh everything is so beautiful. Amazing work friend.
Beautiful design and very practical. I would have like to see more on your stage of creating the cardboard proto. Your videos are always the highlight with my morning tea.
Damn you Science! Getting in the way of progress EVERY SINGLE TIME! :D
Happy Sunday!🌞
you could put the magnet on the bottom of the box at the other end where the wood would have the metal stop to contact it when closed if the felt slips.
I love all your projects but this one has a roll top, which I've loved since I was a kid and a really nice quality whiskey compass...awesome thing that should be in all cars.
loving this! Also loving that you're not using gloves while using your saws!
Really good looking combinaton of Wood and screws 😁👍
I also Like the Idea of a non working compass this makes your Van a bit like a vessel preowned by Jack Sparrow
Loved the video, and all in 4k very fun to watch!
Great job, the people in Wolfsburg could learn a thing or two from this video 😄
Excellent start and very cool! Center consoles are personal.
I build my own as well. There's no going wrong that way. Well, the magnet thing...... ROFL!!! Too funny 🤣!! Looked like a great idea to me too!! I'll wait for the rest of the build... this is cool 😎!
Ooo! Ha! Great workaround! I love your always-expandng use of materials and techniques. Thank you.
The tambor is a really great idea for the center console
Nice center console Laura, and classic misstate. Looking forward to Episode two: the search for more cup holders.
Great music, esp in the tambour making part
Love it! The magnet mistake was too funny. I missed it too.
Another brilliant video and interesting project. Looking forward to part 2!
You are 👏 Thanks. Can't wait for part 2
Nice annecdote with the magnet ;). Good project again.
The compass thing reminds me of when I found a bike bell with a compass in it for my touring bike and very excitedly bought it, only to realise it steadily pointed at the magnetic closure of my handlebar bag!
Man, I love that bandsaw.
You're awesome I love to see you work.
As someone who has aquired a new (to me) vehicle this inspires me to fix the cd holder in between the front seats that I hate.
The magnet fail does prove that it's a good compass. Great box build. 👍
I usually find little “fails” or oops in many video builds on UA-cam.
I completely missed this one🤦🏻
Not faulting anyone as I have had plenty of them myself and I’m sure I’ll have plenty more.
Some of the fun is overcoming little challenges and creating something you are proud of.
Great project. It not only repairs a poor design, it upgrades it as well and makes it your own.
👍😎
I learned a few things as well.
That looks spectacular, great job as usual.🤩
Laura, as usual... Good job!!!
Good example of CAD - Cardboard assisted Design!
I went through something similar years ago in my van.
I got a milk crate and 2 - 3"pvc pieces of pipe for cupholders.
They work great - I like yours better - lol
Awesome work, really enjoy all your videos and the creative process.
Looks like it will turn out great. Next build - a car; or at least, a car shell that wraps around your bike.
The magnet..., so sweeeeeeeet!!!
This is awesome, Laura! The mess-up was hilarious! Keep up the good work!
Way cool and beautiful! Congrats! Well done.
Hi, amazing project and amazing result! Can I suggest you to remove the screw used for latch to the magnet? as you can see, there is a little compass deviation.
Of course, after installation you need to calibrate the compass due too the iron car frame. 😛
I am very happy to follow your channel.

This box is soooo cool ! 👍🏼
This was great, felt similar in editing to some of your older videos. Great job on the project!
I love your videos, you are so talented. Great idea and so unique.
This is insane work and very cool woodworking process 🔥👍.
That turned out so awesome!!! I have been needing to fix a center console for a long time as well, your excellent piece makes me wanna get on it now!!!
