The 1996 HBO Movie, Gotti, they mention here... The real Gotti would've loved it, because it made him look reasonable for a mob boss, even smart and level-headed. It was a flattering portrayal. It was the best 'mob movie', even better than Godfather and Goodfellas (though not as entertaining or well made, of course). It was super realistic, with no nonsense added. They just stuck to the known facts of the time. The acting was superb, too.

Great movie!!! Armand Assante was awesome and amazing, but slow down, The Godfather was by far the best mob movie ever made? James Caan, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall made their careers, and obviously they ended up doing other amazing films!!! But, the 1996 Gotti movie unbelievable!!!! 👍

You need to have a court order to tape someone yes they did have permission to do so but john and his lawers needed to be warned ahead of time but luckily john new his place was bugged thats why he always was out side walking around, which to me the government was harassing him and thats against the law the only way the government could get him is breaking in his place and use there same tactics which i find this case so hysterical, im not sticking up for the guy but the government broke the law as well the way they went about it

@Anthony Botti , no Gigante did not fear Gotti.
Gigante was in business with Castellano and had Gambino caporegime Jimmy Failla on his side. The bomb went off outside of Failla’s social club. You think Gigante feared Gotti? Gigante had Angelo Bruno, head of the Philadelphia crime family killed because Gigante wanted control of Atlantic City once gambling made a comeback there. After Carlo Gambino died in 1976 Bruno lost his ally on the Commission. Castellano didn’t have the street credibility that Gambino had and Gigante felt no one would challenge him. If Gigante feared Gotti, Gigante wouldn’t have tried to kill him.

the fact is that the feds used a far worse criminal than gotti to bring gotti down, because they couldn't stand the fact that gotti was so popular. gravano is a cowardly informer who is a much worse criminal than gotti was, and took the deal from the feds so he wouldn't have a long prison sentence. in fact it is said that gravano only served barely a year in prison, and not 3 and a half years as the US public was told. gravano killed far more than 19 people. while in prison in 2006 , richard kuklinski was scheduled to testify against gravano about a murder he committed, for which he was paid by gravano, who planned the murder. gravano never told the feds about this murder, and probably many other murders either. kuklinski died mysteriously in prison before he could testify. it's said that he was poisoned. of course everyone knows now how "repentant" gravano was about his own criminal activity, after informing and testifying against gotti, and getting a free ride from WITSEC, in a beautiful home in an upscale neighborhood outside of pheonix for him and his family, he started an ecxtasy drug ring, and wound up back in prison in 2001.

Great upload. I love following the italian mafia and still very intrigued about the largest orgamized crime syndicate in this country. I have been since I was 12. In no way do I condone this lifestyle, but I find that an underground syndicate, which controlled so much for so long, with it's own rules, heirarchy, and "government" was able to exist for so long. The italian mafia is not completely shut down (look at Philly for example) but it is nowhere near as powerful as was in the 80s. The nice RICO law gave the government and iron glove.

***** Easy tough guy. I was just correcting the story. Gotti got into a fight in 1996, and not during 1993 or 1994 or whichever date they alluded to in this video. I didn't mock Gotti or disrespect him; I just clarified the story by saying that Gotti got beaten up in 1996 -- which he did. And then I commented by saying that that altercation 'had to be a blow to the Gotti mystique'. Gotti was known for being a tough guy and a guy who liked to fight and get his hands dirty, so losing a fight in prison had to be a blow to his tough-guy image. That's all. And for whatever reason, you took it like I was laughing at Gotti or saying that he was weak or a loser, which I never did. Your problem, not mine. And I am not a high school kid or a douche bag, and you are the one who sounds a little 'immature' by threatening to beat up a guy behind a computer screen who you don't even know.
