Coil sprung rear end, best improvement one can add to any 70 series in my view. Let's not go there, contentious subject. Hopefully doing Canning in July 24. Was taken in by the simple stainless steel cables from Bull Bar to Roof Rack, super simple, super effective for any narrow overgrown track, new project in the shed soon, thanks. Think I'll add a plastic tube/sleeve though so sleeve can revolve on contact with shrubs as I think it may assist in avoiding hangups with shrubs, just a thought. Gotta get some water bladders for the floor space, was thinking solid plastic but these collapse once utilised creating additional space, awesome. Chainsaw storage, very well thought out. Gonna replicate your roof storage too, great ideas. Was gonna do trip into Simpson Desert April May this year, was telling the wife I wanted to keep the rear seat available for the exact reason you just mentioned, need to consider all scenarios. Unfortunately the big rain event stopped us going, arrived at Curtain Springs as rain dumped down, hence Mt Dare & Simpson locked off. On-top of that, I suffered a bout of minni strokes, spent week in Whyalla hospital, then had to postpone trip & come home 😭. Just my thoughts here, but fire extinguishers need to be obvious & easy to get to. Terrible thought I know, but if for some reason you can't evacuate yourself (trapped) I'd like the extinguisher visible for others to be able to see & grab. I have a fire blanket clearly on display just incase it's required also.
Luke you will come across every type of terrain you can imagine and a heap of Spinifex getting in and under every conceivable space where you don’t want it ! Check your radiator daily including the intercooler , a screen on the bull bar works . I hope all your permits are in order 😎👍🍻 Have a safe trip .
Good onya Luke, great to see you doing a vlog mate and know we will get some good footage along the way! Car will make the difference with that storage and be more comfortable with the mods to length and coils. Cannot wait to get out amongst it more in our 2020 VX now most of the mods are done… just some bits and pieces to make life on the road a lot easier! Safe travels!
Love all the bags emperor the fridge, my son would love these. Would they be suitable for non upright fridges we have an arb 50 litre. We have friends leaving for the Canning in a couple of weeks. They are doing all their prep now.
have a good trip, hopefully you have got a good alarm system fitted with a engine emobilizer as well as keeping it fully locked up at any time you go into a community or towns. it should be a great trip and looking forward to seeing how you go with it.
Would have liked to have a beer with you in Tibooburra but I’m in Wollongong having an operation on my hernia 😩, some good advice on the tires 33 are fine 35 can be real hard to find in places if you need them. We had a guy few years back come through with a Range Rover on 20in wheels stuffed two tires limped into town waited nearly a week for them to come up from Adelaide cost him a fortune 😮. Have a great trip its bloody great out there👍.
Hi ya . Great to see you are out there “making it happen”. Hey you have convinced us to get starllink by any chance where did you get that cut down roof mount set up? Cheers G&L
Luke it will be a fantastic trip. I was meant to do this trip this year but unfortunately family commitments. I really like your travel bags and I have a few, but now you have some new ones. Do you have a camp bag for a Genesis Jetboil setup? I’ll be following your trip.
Have you considered running your starlink system from DC which will reduce the load by 50%? There's a very good US overland channel which has documented the conversion if you're interested. Love the fridge bags, particularly the one in the door to maximise use of space in that area, which is one of my pet hates about uprights. Thanks for the content team Drifta. Cheers
What a rig! I really like the boxes in front of the rear wheels and that it can fit the twin air compressor (and the tank under, sweet set up) Too many good ideas in this one rig, well done. And some really well thought out products, always like that about you guys. How long is the extension of the rig? Is it a jmacx? Cheers
@@DriftaCamping4WD Thanks - I finally figured out what he was saying when I did a bit of hunting around on the net. At first I thought he was saying it was a 1979 model, and I was thinking 'damn, that vehicle's in really good shape for its age!' lol
You guys need to learn how to make fresh bread 😂 we had fresh daily. Letting it rise on the dashboard, cooking at night in camp oven. We got extra fuel on the canning brought in from newman, really good decision as we were rained in at georgia bore (the only water we'd trust) for days. Be interested to see how your starlink goes. Looking forward to vids
This looks like one hell of a trip. Good luck. God speed. May everyone make it home safely.
Those fridge bags are genius.

A bag for everything that doesn’t need a bag and more. Surprised you have a roof top. Thought you would have just made a bag to sleep in!

Sorry, I'm not quite catching it when you're describing the vehicle - it's a 79 what? And what make is that canopy? Thanks
Jake here. yes it is a 79. extended wheelbase. not sure what else he was saying :)

Gee mate what’s the gvm at?
3.8 .. I weighed in at 3.9 everything full.. pretty close : )
Anyone clock the amount of soft bags? 72 of them? 😅
Mate , you really pack some gear in, you would need a GVM upgrade ! I really like all your bags …
yeah has a gvm upgrade done with the extension : )
Live stream the canning
gonna try
Just imagine spending $150k on a 4x4 to have three extra seats incase you come across a stranded hitch hiker
The Fat Bike rider thought it was OK 😀
Too much gear, and it's all difficult to find. Good luck
Just a small note on your title, it's not preperation, it's preparation, if you thought that was worth fixing. Cheers.
thanks fixed that :) J.
Are you joking. Stay home. Purpose of camping is to relax and enjoy the simplicity.
Camping is different to touring though.
