Hi, I’m Simon, a Game Design Student and this champion spotlight and all related media is part of my final year project for university. I hope you enjoyed the video as much as me making it. A big thanks to everyone who helped me with this project, over the last months. It was a lot of work, but it really paid off. Special thanks to Zéa, the artist of the splashart and ability icons, and Luca Tilly, the composer of the champion theme. Both have done incredible work in my opinion. Quick info, for those wondering:
I am aware this champion has similarities with Milio. This is a rather an unfortunate coincidence, because I was already too far in the production process when the champion was released.
A similar thing goes for Skarner. While I knew that he would be getting a rework, it wasn’t clear until very recently that he would lose his crystal part and his Shurima origin.
This project was created in Blender and the Unreal Engine, which is why some of the gameplay features you see might deviate from the game. I had to essentially recreate some of the core features in Unreal.

The fact he has wards built into his kit would make him one of the best supports in high elo 🔥🔥
Probably xD I think the champ would be a bit hard to balance right for both pro play and soloqueue, but could definitely bring some interesting new gameplay to the table!
and in iron they STILL won't have anything warded

In season 1 you could buy infinite wards, sometimes i wouldn't buy any other item. Map hacked the hell out of the rift.

This looks really cool. It feels like the type of design that was prevelent in 2015-16 where the new champions had really unique kits such as bard or ivern
Thank you! Yes this was one of the goals of this project actually. Especially because I think the newer champions had a tendency to be kind of unimaginative and bland I tried to tackle these issues! Glad to hear I succeeded :D

@@LordSplynter I just want to see something that's not hot and sexy. I get that it attracts people, and it's up my alley, but it quickly gets boring and repetitive quick. I don't want to see Kayn or Talon replicated yet again. I want monsters and elderly champs. Renata and Bel'Veth barely count.
One thing I truly wish to see would be an old lady/grandma in the support role. That would be refreshing and wholesome, but not in a way that's annoying or screams "Disney" at you like Zoe and Seraphine.

I agree the E could probably have a stronger form of cc, but I decided against it, because I felt like the vision mechanic is already very strong

@@SimonWaldschuetz One way that could make it balanced is perhaps, if an enemy is hit at the very end of the dash, they could get flipped? Sorta like singed's E flip backwards
maybe something like if he uses e when near a firefly, it empowers the dash in some way, like knocking enemies up or stunning temporarily

Awesome design. I like how the abilities all tie into a central theme. My absolute favorite part about this though is your attention to detail on the web page. Truly brilliant, that you wrote both the Bio and shortstory, like any real new champ would get. Nicely done!

Did you recreate summoner's rift in another engine for the spotlight? If not, how'd you do it?
I got the map from sketchfab (If you look closely you see it's the map with the old bot lane layout). I needed to make some adjustments to make it work for my project.

Champ looks fun and i like the concept but im conserned about passive since it would probably be used more for buffs it gives(empovered aa, ms) and not for vision. Apart from that champ has better identity and more defined theme than most new riot releases so i hope we see something like this in game.

Riot: Oh thats a really cool concept and people would love it.. Anyway lets release another humanoid champion with an overloaded and recicled kit, so we can milk skins and sacrifice creativity for predictable income, which leads to a frustrating and bland game over time :))

Nice but might be underwhelming depending of his "glow up" duration , I think that a nice buff would be that his ultimate place a special firefly that allies can TP on (with the sum spell or with shen ult... ect).
Very valid point. I think this champion heavily relies on the balancing of his passive. That’s something that would need to be tested in the actual game, to make right, which is obviously not possible.
The idea for the ult is really nice, actually! It would make sense with the story as well, since he wants to find new friends and gets help from them when he’s afraid!

An inhuman enchanter creature with an asexual appearance? It looks amazing! It's a pity that this is just a fan fantasy. Instead, we will get a barefoot vampire and another Disney princess conjuring with brushes.
I secretly hope that the planned artist character will be a restless spirit, similar to the Bard. But this will not happen, alas.
I feel you. These type of character designs have become very rare nowadays which is why I wanted to create one myself.

He seems like he'd be useless in lane, which would make him unplayable sadly. Otherwise free wards that can't be destroyed sounds way to op. make his fireflies destroyable with enemies standing in them or something along with his W being way faster and he's probably ok
Yes, laning is definitely not his strong suit, but he definitely has tools to work with, through his slows/speed ups, shield and reveals.
I agree that his wards are strong, however this is his main gimmick so it needs to have impact and it balanced itself within the kit.
Tego only has a limited amount of wards available and they don’t last as long as a regular ward. Additionaly it is way harder to place them in enemy territory because only the W allows to place them over walls. And like I said Tegos whole kit revolves around these wards, so not having them makes the champion significantly weaker (No E over wall; shorter shields, no speed ups, slows, etc.

It really cool concept although I'm not sure such a heavily one-dimensional kit would be viable for a role. He's basically just an umbral glaive incarnate but an item and a champion are far from the same impact.
Thanks for the feedback! I get where you’re coming from and multiple people have mentioned this too. I think these issues could be balanced through the balancing, since Tego also offers shields and buffs to allies + has some tankiness.
His Ult can also have great value in team fights.
I love this champ :) I wish we had more champs with unique warding abilities like Fiddlesticks effigy or Orianna's ball. I would totally play this guy to M7

i think it might be a bit of a problem that his only real utility is vision, which is important dont get me wrong, but i feel like he might need a bit more to be actually useful
Agree, in hindsight I would put more cc onto his e, and maybe adjust the ult a bit.
The buffs of his fields are also quite nice for teamfights and laning

At first I thought this guy was supposed to be a jungler before I saw him playing support at the end. Really cool that I was already thinking of different ways to play this character. Neat concept
Yes, he has a lot of potential for jungle aswell, but I think he lacks a bit of damage or engage possibility to make him viable with his current kit

This champ won't even be considered. Why? Because Riot only makes disney and humanoids now! They would make 1 different being after every 10 or more humanoid/disney characters. So disappinting Riot! So many creatures have potential and they just make cutie sexy humanoids.

Hallo Simon, Respekt was du dir da an Arbeit gemacht hat. Grafisch finde ich es unglaublich schön wie er zum Leuchten beginnt wenn er in seine Zonen läuft.
Insgesamt finde ich die Spells wirklich einzigartig und Tego wäre eine tolle Ergänzung in League. Er könnte vielleicht noch etwas besseren Engage vertragen, als das sein dash stärker ist, aber sonsten erste Sahne.

Am i too low Elo to understand or isnt bigger R range kind of a nerf since the enemy can see more than before? Or at least a. two edged sword. I think it would be cool if people Inside can't see outside and people outside cant see inside!

Great concept but you made a huge mistake...it's not a cute uwu girl or k-pop model or ripped af. Monster champions are just not profitable. And since Riot stopped being a gaming company a long time ago, I doubt we'll see "ugly", non-sexual monster champions in a while.

Actually, it's fascinating concept, but i would replace q ability on ward place, and make new q just to make kit more useful for your adc. 'cause he don't have any ability to help adc beside shield on w.
Thanks, glad you lik it. I see where you're coming from and I have considered it too, but I decided against it for a few reasons. As a support he kinda needs to have access to the sweeper, and not having it disrupts a little bit the concept of having a "vision" support. Also the q is integral to his map movement and while the speed can come from a different ability it makes more sense this way. Also having his fireflies instead of ward puts the w in a weird spot, because now its the only ability that can place a firefly.
And while Tego hasn't a lot of power in laning phase, his fields still grant buffs to the adc, and his e provides engage and disengage options. However if I would rework something I'd start with the e and give it more cc and some other changes
@@SimonWaldschuetz k, sounds good, as adc main i know how hard laning phase can be, but i guess this is late game support and his abilities directed on macro.
@@alexmv2200 Yes this is kinda the niche i was going towards. This champ is very roam heavy, which is why a self sustaining adc would probably be best for the lane. Similar in a way to Bard
@@SimonWaldschuetz Yeah, Bard, i know how his first days where and report with explanation "picked Bard" were quite popular, and still i don't really like Bard for him always in other lines but this guy would do it fast and will provide vision which is a good gift for jungler.

1Как я должен его догонять?! Может вы решили проблему с Гекоримом, Лилией, Каином, которые влитают и ваншотают моего АДКерри. И их "риск" не оправдание, так как у кого то имеется: лютый отхил, бесплатные статы, массовый контроль.
2Как команде играть против него?! На 1уровне он может ставить, как я понял 5светлячков, которые дают вижен, в совсем не маленьком радиусе. Такими темпами, всегда можно будет знать, где находится лесник, роумы противников будет крайне не эффиктивны при игре с ним, и смотреть за объектами.
Так же его скорость, позволит ему роумить ЛУЧШЕ, чем Пайк!(хотя и его мобильность иногда удивляет). Пайк - оставляет своего Керри, на съедание противникам и сам рискует на контр Ганг, так как он хилинький, а Тего может оставить 2светлечка, усилив своего адка, и это будет выглядеть, как компенсация.
Ещё у него только 2умения на нанесение урона, значит, он будет собираться в танка, в мобильность нет смысла, потому что и так хватает с лихвой.
И, как мы знаем, что танко-предметы, которые придумали Рито, очень сильные. Возьмём Сердце стали, он стакает хп от каждого врага.
Что получается, Тего может перемещаться с огромной скоростью, с такой же скоростью накапливать стаки на Сердце стали, что в свою очередь увеличивает урон и хп Тего.
А ещё это ослепление на ульте...

1Взять светлячок и уменьшить радиус в 3, раза. Количество оставить на 3(это не тотемы контроля). Ещё, как я понял Тего может использовать светлячок на себя. ДК почему бы ему не добавить лупу, которая не будет показывает инвизника, а РАССЕИТ его инвиз.(Шако зделает рывок, но инвиз не получит)
2Я не хочу, что бы союзник в полёте получал щит. Пускай только при создании поля, на союзника наложится щит.
(Радиус такого светлячка, можно уменьшить не в 3, а в 2,5раза, округлив)
3Тего при рывке, разбивает один из фонарей об себя, поджигая врага и оставляя после себя линию огня, которая будет дамажить, если на неё наступить(я не понимаю зачем это разжовываю)
4Пасивно: ослепление Ноктюрна, W Грейвза или, что то подобного, будет увеличен обзор союзных чемпионов, по окончанию вражеского умения.
Активно:Отталкивает вокруг себя, союзников и противников в опредилёном радиусе. Созданное фиолетовые поле будет давать Тего щит каждые 6секунд, если он находится в этом поле. (Поле длится 12сек.)
Пасивка: ускоряется рядом с союзными вардами на 2сек.(Светлячки считаются)

Great idea! Would probably fit in a similar category with roaming janna top (which I really didn’t like xD), but could be viable. I think he has also potential to be a jungler with his vision, small engage and objective control.
Having basically endless amount of vision wards is way more overpowered, than its look like. However we can balance this champ. For example if he had a unique support item witch contains the passive and scales with destroying enemy wards and also the enemy can destroy these vision areas with capturing them (like scarner passive). E should dash through walls, even if you don't have vision on the other side of it, wasting a passive stack for an E because you ran into a 1v5 (average bronze-silver play) is a bit useless. And the R ability is really unique and I love it.
Yes he has a lot of vision, but not an endless amount. As you noticed not having fireflies can be punished by the enemy. It should involve some risk to ward in the enemy jungle.
The vision for the E doesn’t need to come from his fireflies so when you plan your warding trips correctly you can use the vision provided by the team for your escape route.
I agree that warding in low elo is not as impactful, however if no one is warding you can bring a significant advantage for your team when picking this champ.
Very well thought out concepts, abilities, and skills. Cute character. in terms of riot profiting off skins how marketable would he be? Does he appeal to the current generation of league? That’s what I would be thinking as a money hungry riot head of product lol
Thanks! I think he has some limitations in terms of skins (especially the fireflies) but there’s also lot of potential for interesting creative designs!
Very cool and estetichally very pleasing, also sounds really nice, but it seem ma to be on the weaker side of things as purge support would bring much more to the table, vision IS very important, don't get me wrong, but you can't be A Vision Bot and exertion everything to work just fine.
Thank you so much. I 100% agree with what you said. In hindsight I think I focused a bit too much on the vision thing and to less on his other abilities. Like you said, worst case this champ is just a vision bot in the end.
But I think this can be easily fixed through tweaking some of the stats and maybe adjusting the E ability.
I think this is a champ who needs to be tested extensively to get the balancing (amount of fireflies, respawn time of ff, radius of glow field, etc) right.
He looks like a DOTA 2 Character...

I don't like this champ, nothing special, 0 dmg, i know it's supp, but what type of help he provide in TF ? Eh okay, release it, but i don't like it 😊
He has a bit of teamfight but it’s not his strength. The Ult and E can be very useful in teamfights and cause disruption.
The main strength however is to setup vision beforehand and gain advantages for your team before the fight has even started!
this concept is really bad imo... he's like bard... but worse... he rely way to much in his enchanted terrains or whatever those are and he only give some MS, slow and a small shield for peeling... he really is useless in modern LoL, a arcane sweeper of a champion I will say, really usefull yeah... also, who desinged that dude? is he from 2009 or what? is like the vastayan cousin of gragas... I watched a ton of fake champions... I will say... this is one of the worst desings and most useless kits I have ever seen in a while
I see where you’re coming from. One of the goals of this project was to create a champion more in line with the older designs like Ivern, Bard and so many others, since the newest champions and the direction of the game is not liked by everyone. Yes he has a very specific niche, but I won’t say he is useless. There might be the need for some adjustments like more cc on the e, a bigger shield etc. but that is something that needed to be tested in the client, which isn’t possible for me.

That’s sadly not possible because this project was for my bachelors degree and took over three months on its own. I have to focus on different things now, including getting a job. Additional I would provide not be able to monetise this content since it uses assets from the game

Wäre natürlich toll wenn es der Champion ins game schafft, aber müsste wahrscheinlich noch ein bisschen abgeändert werden (Wegen der Skarner Lore etc.)
Unabhängig davon bin ich sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis und das Feedback und die Reaktionen auf UA-cam sind auch sehr schön anzusehen!
