Yes! I remember when I first got interested in web design, I've never some before, there's this guy that has courses on Udemy on every design tool figma, Photoshop, just general graphic & web design courses. He is also successful on UA-cam, I remember thinking thus guys designs are UGLY! but he's frickin successful.
In the female space there was a trend of women complaining these Instagram hair stylist or beauticians are actually terrible in real life, meanwhile someone who can do a glam make up is struggling. It's all about attention grabbing as much as possible!!

I struggle to find clients who want to pay $1000 let alone $5000, but money is money so I end up taking what I can get, and then spend hours and hours delivering a good service for sub par payment just to make ends meet.

I want to start by denying your claim of 'not being special', your attention to detail and thoroughness in this free resource and all of the videos you've done so far is definitely unique. I'm not interest in going back to web design at some point, I think I ended up here because of something Notion related. In any case, I'm on the cusp of a coaching and freelance writing business and there is so much wisdom in your perspective for this different profession. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your success!
She realizes she has a lot of value to provide in these videos and one of the underlooked aspects is that these videos themselves are a lesson in messaging and tone. I don't think she's lying when she says she doesn't think she's special, what she means by that is that she's just a human, who persisted through hardship and is now reaping the rewards. Point being: she says that so we can feel on her level, so we can feel that we don't have to be design gods or business masters to get started and put ourselves out there whilst also being authentic when she says it. Result: we all like her, we buy her gumroad products, she makes 50k a month. MULTIPLE LEVELS OF LESSONS IN HERE.
I really love this video because it really was eye opening. I only recently started to find local businesses to contact while I am in the process of putting together a website, offer and portfolio, and it's exactly as you said: I've been stuck in the planning stage.
I don't think I'd have a problem with working myself to the bone in the beginning to make the most money (without neglecting working on my business) because I have a lot of debt and I would want to build up an emergency fund as fast as possible.. but those parts of the video on how to scale without becoming another version of a 9-5 you hate is GOLD.
Very important. Everyone always makes it sound so much easier than it is.. Like someone advised me on this when I said I was a web developer and I love developing but while I can design I don't know it I'm not a designer.. He said why don't you just learn it.. Kinda getting a little off topic..
BUT he said "Yeah just do web design... $5000 a project, 3 projects a month, $15,000 .. easy peasie." hehe. No not easy peasie LOL at least not for me.
Thank you also for the outsourcing to freelancers instead of employees thing.. You know having employees and payroll taxes and all this mess.. I want my well.. You're not American well you're in Canada.. I don't know anything about Canada, but I want my relationship with the IRS to be as least complicated as possible.

Looks like she stopped promoting her business and only promotes the course about how to do what she did in 2021..... Just what we're seeing is all --- this tells me... don't go after clients, do what she's doing. Come up with your own angle on skills you're great at, synthesize and sell.

Keep this in mind: for every single skill, to make a wealthy amount of money, you have to delegate/outsource to others.
So the main way to make real money is to sell the service, any service, and not do it yourself. Yes, first you can learn how to do it so you can act as a final quality control barrier, but most of people get rich by arbitrage, not by practicing the skill they preach about in their videos.

I make $$ with client works but making 2x less with digital products feels 1000x better.
You don't understand the feeling of waking up and seeing that you still made money.
None of this is easy.
Not the freelance route, and certainly not the content creator route.
You gotta put in the work.
For the love of God. Stop complaining that they make more money with courses, and "not with the actual" client work lol.
I can have all the clients work in the world, but I would rather teach.
