I was born in La Plata It used to be e very clean city and with very well kept squares and buildings Unfortunately the last twenty years of decadence are visible The city knew better times Hopefully it will recover it’s real beauty soon Congratulations ,good work !!!
27:00 : That would be the Archbishop's Residence, designed by Italian-Argentine architect Leopoldo Rocchi and built in 1884-87. Rocchi also designed the original *Argentine Theater* opera house - gutted by a (suspicious) fire in 1977. Local authorities invited a British architect, Roy Worskett, specializing in reconstruction works - but the *bestial* dictatorship at the time opted to instead build a "modern" new opera house. The new opera house took 20 years to build, was plagued by "cost overruns" (i.e. corruption), and was opened in 1999. To this day, tourists who walk by often think it's the local jail. Thanks as always for your scholarly tours, Garry. Happy travels!
Fun fact: Pedro Benoit, who designed the layout, was a Freemason - and patterned the city after the Kabbalistic Tree of Life (each node representing an aspect of Godliness in each of us - a chakra of sorts). Modern motorists, however, often complain that it mostly just complicates the drive through the city. Qué será.
Keep up the good work Garry!

True - but I visited in '99, and it already looked rather depressed and grimy (a good bit more so than in Garry's tour).
@ Yes ,it’s a long decadence sadly
Great tour!

22:50 : Evita and Juan Perón were married in that church, in 1945 (she was 26; he was 50). And the rest, as they say, is history...
nightmare I would say...
Si, HISTORIA NEFASTA... Con esa gente se inicio la destruccion del pais.
Algunas escenas de la película "Siete años en el Tíbet" fueron rodadas en la estación de trenes de La Plata.
