After 48 years, I am returning to one of the few subjects that created doubt, fear and confusion for me... Your first 3 lessons (I intend to watch and study as many as I can! Thank you sooooo much!) have already given me hope and I am excited to 'learn' more!!! I am realizing why it was so difficult for me so long ago... I was trying to learn a difficult new language (music), in a totally new language for me (Vietnamese)... Kind of like trying to learn Chinese, in a class that ONLY spoke German... and you only understood English! lol
Your lessons are thorough, your pace is comfortable, and the order/organization is absolutely well thought out and simply awesome!!! Thank you again!
I have subscribed and will visit on a regular basis as my busy schedule allows...
My hat is off to you and I am clasping my hands together and bowing in respect in your direction!
    Thanks again!

stems are usually about an octave long, and ledger lines can be just a moderate length, whatever you need to fit the note on, but not too wide

I have recently thought about learning how to play piano because I have started listening to more and more classical music. I love it, it helps soothes as well as calm down after a good or a bad day at the market. I recently began to think how great it would be to take up a new hobby and learn the piano. Your classes are fantastic it's wonderful that there are people out there giving away some of the best knowledge for free. Even better than that is you have a knack for teaching! Everything you say sticks
Thanks so much and I look forward to learning more

This is perfect for me. I am a Senior in a performing arts High school. I know only a little thanks to my fabulous vocal teacher but Theory is just something I NEED for college this is a great way to get me started. I don't want to go to an outside teacher and the schools class is made for 9th and 10th graders. Basically, we rock out and vocalist just don't get the theory we need. Thanks for posting these :)

I really appreciate you doing this. I'm currently taking a class called Music in Context at my college and it's supposed to be about music history and appreciation and stuff but my teacher insists on telling us all these advanced theory things and expects us to already be familiar with it. This has helped me deal with him and his bs lol. :) + This has helped a lot with my singing and drumming.

I've recently joined a choir and been taught some music theory already, but this is really helping me go over the stuff again in my own time and therefore absorb it easier. Excellent stuff. The only difference is I was taught the name of the notes, such as semibreve, minim, crochet, etc, but this style actually simplifies it and makes it easy to understand?

music theory is for those who just want to learn the maths of music.
if you learn the basic notes and are blessed with natural talent you will be able to play an instrument without learning all music theory,

about the flag staying on the same side... a little memory help might be the focus line..."the wind stays blows from the same direction even if i move the stick its hanging from"
just came to mind that the clef could be presented as a ventilator form which the wind blows so the flag is always away from the 'source of wind', the clef

hey andrew! i just wanted to thank you for taking the time and effort to teach this course. people dont understand that music theory is the road map to playing music. why waste your time trying to play an instrument by ear when you could just learn a bit of theory and be gooood? Anyway, you rock! keep it up!
