If you don't start vibing to that bass riff intro, you're dead inside.
One of my favourite Hip songs. There is a haunting dark quality to it. ❤
I remember when Gord sang it as the second encore for their last show... Maybe I imagined it, but it seemed to me that he was shouting his frustration, his anger at being cut short by cancer. RIP Gord 😪
This song was great live! RIP Gord😢💕🇨🇦
Aren’t they all lol
This is where I got my daughter's middle name. Grace. We used it as a play on words of second name of Grace or Grace two.
Staple Hip.4:03 full-body shivers when they all kick in. The jam out is a bit long but live you never want it to end.
Probably one of the greatest songs when performed live...
Another great song to check out from this album is "its a good life if you don't weaken"
@@curmudgeonaf I was thinking of the darkest one.i commented on the wrong video.
Really like this one. Great bass lines
Day for Night, the first compact disc I ever owned.
Love love love tragically hip and this is one of my favorites
When they did this song live Gord what often amp up the freak out screams at the end. Just brilliant stuff
Like this one. Excited to see what is next. There are lots of great songs to choose from
You are correct that Gord came up with the melodies, but it wasn’t always Mr Downey. Gord Sinclair wrote many (arguably most) of the music you’ve heard thus far.
this made me happy...thanks buddy :)
Seems to me, some dude got cheated on by his beloved. He's recreating, what he considered the approach must have been, to render the betrayal he seriously didn't see coming. There's a rare video of their performance of two songs from SNL "Nautical Disaster," the other one, again, is a poetic masterpiece. Gord Downie, like all great storytellers, lives inside us all. Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Waits, Neil Young. We don't just listen, we channel them for a bit. "The deeper you go, the higher you fly," a great storyteller once said. Hip, that performance, I've never felt so proud to be Canadian!
Woo-hoo!!! Double Hip . Great song
In Canada its just The Hip and pretty much everybody knows all their songs.
Very creepy song with a factual reference to a serial killer's m/o....it creeps on you too.
p.s. as a Canadian I can attest to the fact that every single one of us knows at least one Gordie.
Buddy would like Yawning or Snarling, it’s heavy
I love 'Little Bones', '50 Mission Cap', 'Poets', and the name too. 😊🌾👑❤🍁❤
The overall best Hip album. Almost all killer, no filler.
Excellent song, excellent album! Absolutely love it.
Justin for your listening pleasure , great live versions of Grace Too and fully completely...I'd never seen this video, it's on point and was at their biggest when they filled arenas all over Canada
ua-cam.com/video/S3WfSftHQnI/v-deo.html
I never appreciated fully completely until I heard and saw it live.
Just fyi, most of The Hip guitar work is in open tuning which gives a fuller sound and allows for slides etc
An excellent rabbit hole !
My man could freshen the look of the environment to attrack viewers, but this maybe the only music reaction Ive heard on youtube with no breaks and full experience! And you definitely know music sir! Great watch ! Watchy spacy vibe and name 😂
I actually have changed the background recently... and starting this Thursday I'll be doing a string of The Tragically Hip tunes!
Naming people Gordon in Canada is almost a joke. The Barenaked Ladies had "Gordon" as the title of their first album.
Gordie Howe, Gordon Pinsent…
I had a feeling you would like this one. Such a great song.
Re names: I know twins - twins! - named Andrew & Andy.
The thing to note about this album is that the songs were composed from on-stage jams, and Gord spouting stream-of-consciousness poetry.
Ah man i forgot how hypnotic this banger is
George Foreman has 12 kids, his five sons are George Jr., George III ("Monk"), George IV ("Big Wheel"), George V ("Red"), and George VI ("Little Joey"). On his website, Foreman explains, "I named all my sons George Edward Foreman so they would always have something in common. I say to them, 'If one of us goes up, then we all go up together, and if one goes down, we all go down together!'"
Remember seeing them open the new Ontario place amphitheatre they were the final act on Canada Day over twenty bands great time Canada has alot talented musicians
remember (flash gordon ) l.o.l.😂 wait until you hear (i don;t wanna swim,,,,,,, SWIM🎸)🤘🏊♂🤘
Nice man. Still holds top spot for me as fave Hip track. Album is so solid front to back.
And they performed with Gordon Lightfoot, on occasion, too…
Perfection...
Hip!
Like Rush fans, many Hip fans are into the lyrics. Their sound pokes around blues, pop, rock and folk.
I'm give you a carrot on that Gord thing might had to do with Gordie Howe one of the most famous Canadian 🏒 players haha
Breaking news on CBC News. Behind the music with Bob Rock: Gord Downie posthumous music.
You are in for a treat if you get into the Hip. They were the soundtrack of my university years in the 90s. Across Canada, every club that catered to the college crowd would play New Orleans is Sinking at some point, and you would have the dancefloor full of folks singing/shouting/screaming every word at the top of their lungs.
By the way, your rig sounds terrible during these Hip tunes: the songs sound like they are skipping or something. I hope you are hearing these tunes better than we are.
This is a good song, and I really like it, but it was not a good choice for the SNL gig. It would have been better to have one of their more rocking songs like "New Orleans Is Sinking" to really connect US audiences with the band. This is one of their songs that is more of an acquired taste.
When they performed this Gord started with "Well I'm Tragically Hip ...".
I heard a story from him that the night of this show was his nephew's 11th birthday and he had promised a special reference to it. You can see him hold up both index fingers making an 11. He was so fixated on making sure that he remembered to make the 11 that he forgot the lyrics for a minute and having just heard Dan Ackroyd introduce them those are the words that stuck.
The problem inherent to reaction videos is that some songs take time to grow on you. Personally, some of my favourite songs/albums were initially slow burns that took time to savour and appreciate.
You're definitely right
I think you would enjoy Cordellia from the hip
Maybe Todd will pay for you to do their discography after you wrap up Rush!
I was sorta hoping to provide the kindling for the fire that would spur JPan into that venture. It took a few months of his listening to Rush before he made that call.
Mind you, JPan was a self-starter with Rush, if I recall correctly. The first video of his I saw was the one where he was, like “I never liked Rush, but people I respect like them. It’s just that gawd-awful voice of his, but I’ll give them a fair hearing.” Obviously that’s me paraphrasing though.
I will say that additional songs have been jumping to mind as I watch these reactions. Today it was Gift Shop. I’ve also been personally partial to (in no particular order): Courage, 50 Mission Cap, Nautical Disaster, 100th Meridian, Blow at High Dough, and My Music at Work.
And then there’s the need to have a listen to Bobcaygeon, Ahead by a Century, and Scared.
There’s also, of course, a need to have him hear both the studio version of New Orleans is Sinking (which is the song that broke them onto the Canadian market, Justin) as well as the Killer Whale Tank version of the song. That will give him an opportunity to witness the free-association, impromptu lyricism of Mr. Downie, with a patient rhythm section often marking time as he delighted his legion of fans with whatever crazy-assed story he had on his mind at that moment. It really became a kind of performance art that accompanied the songs everyone knew and loved (and probably also a great way to avoid getting bored playing their earliest hits). It’s also because of this phenomenon that I’ll lean towards having JPan hear the studio version first, in most cases.
New Orleans is sinking is a fav.
😎❤🙌
Gordon is like a modern day Jim Morrison you should really watch One Night In Toronto Live
Him … here … now …..!!! noooooo
Maybe after you finish with Rush, you could do their catalogue.
Have you Heard of the Smiths. I have watched some vudz where they compare The Hip and the Smiths.
I have. I don't know a ton of their music but I like that song Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now.
I'm glad to see you jamming Canadian bands - but pls lay-off, RUSH. Man they suck! You could be listening to the Guess Who instead, or Blue Rodeo, or Neil Young, or Sloan even! You mentioned "two guitars", but seemed to forget about the third one...the acoustic.
I know this is a sacrilegious thing to say given the near sainthood Downey has been raised to, but I have never liked his voice.
I quite like most Hip songs instrumentally but with few exceptions the vocals spoil them for me. Let the castigation begin.
It's all good man. It's a split down the middle on his voice. He's kind of like the Canadian Stevie Nicks on that front. lol...
😂 I knew several people that felt the same way as you. Personally, I was already into Rush, Neil Young, and Midnight Oil at the time, so weird voices never bothered me.
