FINALLY! Someone explained cross-pollination between heirlooms - seeds are not guaranteed to be the same heirloom if you or your neighbors are growing other varieties of that plant. Lots of other gardening youtubers have videos explaining these terms but none of them effectively cover cross pollination; they just blindly say that heirloom seeds will produce the same plant year after year.
Very helpful. I would love to save seed, but the genetics of hybrids are complicated, and I haven't thought about this topic since high school. Seed isn't particularly expensive for a home gardener, so I'm willing to give the companies a profit to develop fancy snapdragons. Thanks for another informative video.
Very useful and educational information on understanding the labels attached to seed buying and the marketing. Organic seeds are for certified organic growers to be able to sell their produce as certified organic. Organic growers are not buying their seed off the self or from a catalog sent to everyday home gardeners (Johnny’s Seed may be the exception).
"Organic seeds are for certified organic growers " - I don't think that is correct. Certified organic seed has been grown organically. A lot of seed for homeowners is labeled organic. Also, certified organic farmers are also able to use non-organic seed in some cases were certified seed is not available. If your statement is correct, they would never have to do this.
I like hybrid seeds. They may be expensive but are worth the cost. I also would like to support seed companies for them to develop more functional seeds which produce more abundant and tastier fruits.
This explanation is so wonderful wow!

Thank you for explaining all of this. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. #Keepupthegreatwork
Can't believe this channel has been hiding from me. It's so underrated.
