It was The Disney Magic sailing from Barcelona to Dover, this was filmed on July 27 2022 :) All that stuff on the ground is most defiantly knock off and an illegal seller. Many of those sellers are involved with petty crime or drug gangs. The giveaway is its all on blankets or a sheet. They have a look out for Police and when they get the warning, they quickly gather the blankets and run with the stuff. Its a tourist trap set out for the cruise passengers. Very common in European cities.
I had meant to find out what ship it was and mention it - thank you for letting us know it was Disney Magic! You are right. I didn't buy anything, and similar ports we've been to had similar setups.
I think the places I had attempted in Spain were requesting only Spanish Debit or American Express. Not Visa nor MasterCard. Lesson learned. As you say, I'll be sure to take the insert and PIN method in the future.
Yes, however, my banks and cards were giving my much issue, and Brightwell was actually a lifesaver in that regard while onboard and in any given country/part each day.
Hello fellow Canadian! I work with princess as well and on my last contract in Barcelona my Canadian card just wouldn't work 😅the only port where I had no luck lol
Not sure why you would attempt to use your Brightwell card before you were paid, and actually had money on the card. Purchasing from the ship is entirely different, then a shop in port.
If I am not mistaken we are given a bit of room to spend, which essentially places me in debt until I get paid. And when I do, the amount owed is deducted. At least that's how I was explained. I could be wrong.
You can transfer from Brightwell to Brightwell. If you want to transfer to company, that is not your own bank account, you need to use another third-party system to do so.
Thanks for sharing, Dan!
I find your crew advice quite helpful!
Lots of information but your perspective is always positive and enlightening.
I am glad to hear that, thank you! And I still have lots more coming from my time on Sky and other ships!

Use the PIN and insert card at most foreign ports. Also use Mastercard not Visa. A lot of small merchants machines have problems with Visa.

Look at all these chickens! 😂 🐓
See what I did there...?
(That one's for you! 😂)
I shore did!
Did you ever consider direct depositing to your bank account instead of using the Brightwell card?

Hi Amber! 🇨🇦 Which ship were/are you on? Not many fellow Canadian seafarers. There are only four on Sky currently.
@@DANOVERBOARDvlogs I was one of 2 on Regal 🤣 my next ship is Royal Princess so we will see if there are any there 🙏🏼
Only two!? We're a minority 😊. Happy sailing on Royal!
@@DANOVERBOARDvlogs haha indeed! Enjoy the rest of your contract ☺️🙌

You haven't spent anything on the ship yet except for water? Arent you supposed to sit in the o-bar every evening? 😀
I'm either being frugal or naïve. And maybe both.
Since then I have spent money and time on the finer things in life. (crew bar social activities 😄)
Use the pin and the chip dont use nfc
Great tip, Ali. A lesson I learned maybe too late. I think by the time I had found this out my cards were already blocked. 🙃

Answer at 7:33. Its INSANE you made viewers wait that long to address the topic.
Do you know how often you have referred to your ship as a "boat?" Then you reminded your viewers not to call your ship a boat! Be well, Dan.
Too often. And the reminder is for me. It's me telling myself! 😅
You are Canadian, correct? And very handsome. I was a Purser on long haul for 14 to 18 hours. Every issue came to me to resolve.@@DANOVERBOARDvlogs
@@stephencarter1635 Thank you, Stephen. I am Canadian, yes. There a very few of us aboard.
