Godox QR P70 vs Aputure Lantern Softbox
Video lighting has never been easier and more accessible. Here, we're checking out the 27.5" softbox from Godox, the QR-P70, and comparing it to the Aputure Lantern Softbox. Just for giggles. I really need to check my shirts for dog hair and my face/neck for human hair that's gross.

How do you light your videos? What modifiers do you use? Softboxes weren't even possible for video before LED lights

I found myself going for the highest common denominator of versatility and the Lantern won; makes highest light output/wattage especially critical since it's less focused. Also, the Aputure Lantern's setup time is mind-blowingly even much faster than the Godox: just one hook in the middle, peeking down the opening.
Yeah, it is ridiculously easy to set up and it’s the most versatile. I usually fold up the skirt and just clip it to the sides I want to flag
love this viedo and your dog
Thank you! And Olaf says "woof!" which I think means thank you
Very nice comparison! Thank you for the video!
Which one would you recommend for a beginner videographer, as a more versatile option? (Still trying to find my niche)
Probably the lantern. It’s more versatile
Phillip, excellent pointers...again. Your suggestion to match the softbox to environment (what we will shoot) is helpful. However, I'm a bit stuck as I will do seated talking head AND standing exercise demos. I figure I'll be doing each about 50-50%. What would you suggest?
Hey, I'll just echo my previous comment and suggest an overall bright and evenly lit scene if you can. That way, you will have a space that works for sitting and standing with minimal to no adjusting of lights. It might be worth it to spring for one more COB light, if you can budget for one and just blast your ceiling with as much light as you can. I hope that helps and hit me up with any follow up questions if these suggestions don't work for you. Good luck!
@@PhillipRPeck I appreciate you, Phillip. I can try to spring for another COB. I've just purchased a Neewer Neewer Dimmable 5600K USB LED (for lighting the background, as I exercise against a white wall) and one Neewer Advanced 2.4G 660 LED Video Light, Dimmable Bi-Color LED Panel, for casting color on the background when I do talking heads (seated). I was going to return what I don't need. Do you think I should return one or both and swap it out for the cob and another diffuser (I grabbed both lantern and Godox parabolic, based on your insight. I''ll obviously return one of them?
@Bill Calhoun I'd definitely keep one of the panels to use as you planned. You can also use them to back light you for talking heads. Without seeing your setup, it's hard to give you a definite recommendation. I'd just try for a high key look based on the type of content you're making. There are lots of resources out there if you just search for high key lighting setups. Good luck!
@@PhillipRPeck I hadn't even realized they had stuff on "high key lighting". Once again you're one-uping our knowledge. Thanks for that.
como eu queria que seu vídeo tivesse disponível a legenda em português!!!😥
I don't know! Somehow this video doesn't have subtitles. I'll work on it (Does UA-cam normally caption videos in Portuguese?)
Your channel is just further proof of a broken UA-cam algorithm. The quality of your videos are well beyond the subs and views.
Thank you!
Your stuff is great, way better than mine. But thanks for the kind words
@@PhillipRPeck thanks, not sure that’s true, my style is based around my audience retention graphs. Your videos have a real chilled Nigel barros vibe, really enjoy them. As as side note, I’m a loyal follower of Tom Buck too, love his work. He’s built such a quality community around him. (Saw you mention him in another video)
@@markwiemels Thanks again. I definitely don't structure my videos very carefully, much to my detriment. Not sure if it's a style or if it's just laziness. I'll take a Nigel Barros comparison, I've been watching him for years. And Tom Buck is my hero
Dog :)
