Varanasi Riverside Life in 2010

Perhaps the oldest city in the world, Varanasi's ghats (steps) are place for cremation, socializing, clothes washing, bathing, ceremonies of many kinds, and docking of pilgrims. The holy Ganges or Ganga River flows from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean. Men, goats, dogs, children and women use the steps as a common access point. Holy men in face paint make a living performing acts for pilgrims, a few tourists walk the river's edge and watch in wonder. This is video of common day occurrences along the river's edge.
