You have no idea how ballistics works. The 7.62x39mm is a larger projectile yes, but out of a shorter case than the 5.56x45mm. So, with more powder, a smaller and lighter projectile, the 5.56 actually hits like a .308 for transfered energy. 5.56 also has a much higher pentration value against soft armor compared to a 7.62x39. 5.56 is also much more accurate, has better range, and is much more accurate over range because it's also a much more stable projectile in flight. So yes, Bohemia got it right. The only company to do so.

I think it's because I'm bad with recoil control with full auto guns because it's hard to practise it in a game where combat is kinda rare, and it's even rarer if you aren't good at it which makes it hard to get good at it in the first place. The SVD, even with such a high power round, is pretty mild for recoil. So getting rounds on target at a good pace is actually pretty easy at closer ranges. Especially considering how nice the iron sights are. Plus the obvious long range advantages of a semi auto full power rifle. It's just a very nice gun all around for me. If I find one and I have a couple mags, I don't really need to have another gun if I don't want it. So if I don't have a plate carrier I'll often just run the SVD and a silenced pistol/crossbow so I can stay light and outrun/outflank other players. Genuinely a really fun way to play the SVD, especially with a Ghillie and a couple stashes of supplies around the map so you can run even lighter. Sucks that it's so rare.
Guns I've never seen because the moment you go near a place that spawns them, you're instantly sniped by someone who's carrying all the high quality stuff already
Yeah no kidding on community servers if you can get a group of 10 or more guys with full kit and LAR you can basically take over the entire server and no one can do much about it.

For some reason after I found an m4a1 for me and all my friends I just couldn’t stop finding them. We found like 5 extra m4’s (and we were too dumb to remember how to get plate carriers) so I didn’t know if we should try and make friends by handing them out, or trading them… then I remembered this is dayz
The first ones range is 400 m which is a good bit more than 400 yards, so that’s actually really medium range when guns like 30-06 is a bolt and reaches 500 yards with good shooters
Its a bit of an odd choice, but im personally an SVAL + Armour peircing round enjoyer. The low recoil and high fire rate make it a close quarters beast.

Best gun is/was SKS. Easy to get, ammo common enough, and when a fully geared player eventually gets you, they get nothing they wanted. Its also good at taking them down. I used to rock garbage clothing carry nothing and an SKS when we went out looking for trouble. If you lose, they lose too.
My personal thought is the Mosin. You will usually have that beast in almost every playthrough, and ammo is pretty common. Won't jam on you while damaged since it's an old school bolt action and will smoke people at most ranges.
mosin nagant in real life can get some nargly jams/refusals to operate. Who designed the bolt is a genius but there is a reason everyone else copied mauser or the lee Enfield

They need to set the range and damage straight. KAM would be the second most powerful next to the LAR. The M16, M4A1, and the AUR AX would have around the same damage, and the higher the caliber the better the range (in most cases.) the M4A1 would still have the highest RPM undoubtedly out of all ARs.
Who needs guns? I charge my victims with a broom, the psychological effect of a naked man with a broom stick screaming in his mic will leave them stunned. And upon death, the psychological damage will haunt them for days.
in my book the AKM beats all of those 1. ammo is extremly common and spawns all around the place 2. its great even out of the box and has great iron sights 3. attachments seem more common

LAR is the best imo on a community server it sells for the most because it's very rare also it kills any survivor in just 2 shots and can deal with bears wolves anything with little to no effort and can be used as a sniper rifle in most situations.
Of course. The AUG is a bullpup rifle, which allows a longer barrel which gives the bullet more muzzle velocity and range. A bullpup design allows for a longer barrel at a shorter package or a similar length barrel at an even shorter package.
I once found an lar and gave it to my friend because he said he was a good sniper/markman. We found a lone player at Stary sabor. My friend proceeded to miss 8 shots and die while all I had was a badly damaged repeater carbine that jammed on the second shot. I'll never give him a gun of mine again 😂
