UV resin with the ice
We did something like this as children. We used wax milk cartons a wick and crushed ice p0uring hot wax over it drained water out peeled carton you had an ice candle.
Would resin ashtrays work? Or will the cigarettes melt the resin? Basically im asking if its harder than typical plastic or is it typical plastic?
You found a way to turn resin into something that can be hand molded (in smaller quantities)! How interesting!
Garden sculpture. Put a disk of wood under with a dowel in the centre, and then populate it with resin mushrooms and gnomes. Bummer it didn't go as planned, but, um, content for the channel!
Yes, that was my first thought too. Maybe add a ring of leds inside pointing down to illuminate the magic critters.
Another thought was to turn it upside down and use it as some sort of mysterious meeting place. Like in Indiana Jones Crystal Skull where the aliens appear.
The blobs which were the legs are are now mystical clouds/haze emanating from the structure. Wooo
PS your thumbnail is in Fahrenheit. Tut tut. Are you banana benders imperial?
I like this idea best.
@@petertryndoch8857 I agree, Kelvins are the only acceptable units of thermal measurement!
I thought you should have put it icey side down
Love this idea ❤
Every time you have a bit of resin left over during a project, pour it on top of the sculpture. I have seen paint spires like that, pretty cool.
It definitely would make a neat arctic themed ice cave ambient lamp
I was thinking it looked like an ice cave also. good call
EvanandKaitlin did a large pour and put it in a fridge to cure. Maybe if you did a fridge with low temp wax and after the cure just warm up the oven or use a hair dryer to drip the wax out
@@Boogie_the_catI am so with you on this. I also stopped watching them 😬 x
I am dying lol😂😂😂 I do feel bad for that Smurf you killed. 😢
😂 Connie you crack me up
🤣
put some googlyeyes on it ;)
*** Disclaimer: No Smurfs were harmed in the making of this video!***
😹😹😹
It's a bit like a tutorial for serial killer and his apprentice, first take a towel, then beat it with a mallet, then grab the sticky tape.... oooh.... great content as always guys... it's like a table lamp for John Carpenter's "The Thing"
The Thing was my first thought too
I think the way to flip the sheet of resin would have been to get another mat for under the containers, then flip the whole resined mat and let it drip down naturally
Agree
BEST to do it with silicon or shomting faster curing that produce less heat. then use that mold for epoxy
I wonder if a small scale try with UV resin would work? Also I keep wondering what a burlap egg or bowl or what ever would look like....
honestly I love the shape it left, I havent a clue what to do with it, maybe put a light in it for a cute lamp. and next time use the freezer any time you have a lot of resin in a pot so it doesnt cure to quickly, its great to prevent layer lines!
I think you should pour a pretty thin layer into the bottom to stabilize the shape and then do like Nicole suggested and make a cake stand. A nice black support in the interior center would look classy and you could level off the top that formed around the bowl, then give it a food-safe coating.
A sculpture, yes.
But more for a small pond, the fish would use it as a sun shelter.
As for your cake stand idea Ben. You could add a thin leveling layer. Either clear or maybe pale green. Add some structural support wood, resin, stone, etc..
Plus, you could always add lighting effects either way.
Just my thoughts.
Btw, Nicole, yes, this video made me laugh.
Cheers mates.
It looked so much like taffy when it was soft, and because Ghostbusters is coming out soon the hardened form reminded me of the slime from the movies just blue.
Cake stand could still work, but might need a layer of resin built up over top to level it. Levelling layer could have decoration in it... color swirls or objects. Or an illuminated stand.
I instantly thought "floating island sculpture". Put a small island on the top, maybe a fisher man or sailor, maybe add some clouds near the bottom, and put on a see through plinth.
I'm surprised it still cured in the end. Resin tends to not like water, but the fact it still cured after the ice cubes melted is amazing!
What if you molded that sort of resin consistency into a ball and then put the result onto the lathe and remove enough to see the voids in the middle. Could look cool
I would so put in in a pond with a light under it. It looks cool to me . Was fun to watch. Tyfs my friends 😊
I think that I was right when I said that was a bad idea to begin with. However, I love that you experimented and especially that you have such a wonderful attitude about everything.
It's a blue footed blobby! Just needs a couple of googly eyes and a big orange beak! 😅 That was so much fun!
Floating island or coral reef sculpture with scuba diver or submersible and light underneath
Add some more resin to the top (maybe in purple this time?) to reinforce it. Then sand it smooth, the light idea would be cool before or after this.
Chuck a light under it. Could look cool in the garden....or a fish pond lol
Team work makes the dream work👍
17:28 "Well at least you're giving the viewers a laugh"
I was thinking the same thing - this video was a ton of fun to watch, even if you didn't get to do what you wanted, and you still got a cool result out of your improvisation at the end. I have a suggestion if you want to try the ice again though: try polyurethane resin, since it cures super fast. The ice might stop it setting the same way it stops the epoxy resin, but I think it's worth a try if you still want to see what kind of sculpture you can get from the ice.
Hey Ben&Nicole
Fun video, thanks for sharing.
Perhaps quite a few dioramas made into; boat on the water, glacier, into eggs, or ocean scenes.
Take care😊
it looks like you made a base for a 3d map of Terry Pratchett's Discworld to me - add 4 elephants underneath, and stand the whole thing on the back of a turtle!
Beauty in the eye of the beholder.
You know what might be really cool? Create containers of different colored resins (maybe use veggie oil on the inside of the containers to keep it from sticking), and put the containers in the freezer to get the resin to turn taffy like, then stretch out the different colors and lay them over each other.
Then roll it up and stretch it out to get the different colors to swirl and put the whole blob into a container so that it can settle and set.
Thanks guys that was the best laugh we had all week.
Looks like slime that bubbled up and oozed out of containment or alien drool. So crazy it did that but super cool even if it didn't go as planned.
That could make a really cool lampshade!!
" It just squirted ahahah" Brilliant you two thank you for sharing!
That would look cool with some paint like you did the canvas and a blow dryer instead of a heat gun.
Back In The Day, we made candles by packing a milk carton with crushed ice, and pouring the hot wax over. I was just SURE that's what this experiment was going to yield...!
Could you still 'save it" to be a cake stand by covering it with clear resin for the stable top ...and to strengthen some 'legs' of it?
I liked watching the resin percolate through the ice. I was surprised at how easily the bag came off!
I’m not going to be a spoiler for those who read the comments first. You seemed to have fun, anyway.
Love that sculpture.
Thank you for the laughs guys. I will most definitely be subscribing to you 😂
it reminds me of an ice cave
I am curious if you did this same thing, but with silicone so you can pour resin into it for your desired sculpture.
I would add fake snow and some penguins 🐧 and polar bears 🐻, it would make a really cool artic sculpture.
🤣😂love how you both give it a go and can laugh
try dry ice and a five min resin. . i like the cake stand idea . flatten top with more resin lol
Maybe a hard candy like Jolley Ranchers would work. You could disolve them out after the resin cures. Of course you would have to deal with unwarapping them all. That gives me flashbacks of the crayons. 😊
So what about this? Different colored resin cubes from a shaped silicone ice tray, loose in a container, pour clear or metallic resin, shape it, and profit! Sorry this didn't work out!! It looks like Taffy!
I didn't know you guys were going to make taffy. 😂
You should try it with dry ice...
I'd be interested to see what would happen if you used dry ice.
It wouldn't have any water, but it might sublimate.
what if you put resin in icecube trays dye them blue or whatever, let them cure then take those cubes and cast them in clear resin?
I think a light under it would be cool
Oh my I can’t stop laughing … what a great experiment I would never guessed this would cure mixed with water lol … lovely to see Nicole and pooch ya make a great team …. More like this please Ben .. hehehe 😂 x
I think it looks like an alien thing. Cool!!
I’m sure at this volume it would cost a fortune. But what about a smaller scale version where you combine that fast curing UV resin you use, with those biodegradable package peanuts? Could cure it quick and then dissolve away the peanut portion with water. Couldn’t be any messier than this one was! Enjoyed this version regardless. It’s fun watching you two laugh when things go sideways.
Very good try , I’ve been curious about that
you should have spray mold release on your gloves so it didnt stick
10:35 Do you have any of those cool screwdivers left?
What did you think was going to happen when you let all the resin drain to the bottom where the water was pooling?
Maybe you should have used a heat gun to melt the ice instead of leaving it in the sun. That way you would be melting the ice and at the same time getting the resin to react and harden, maybe.
Try it again in a container full of Styrofoam chunks then once its cured dissolve the foam with acetone
I would turn it into a chandelier sort of lamp
Hey got a question could you mix human ashes into a resin project? Not wanting you to do it just wanted to know if its possible.
Either you like it or not, it's peak art 😂😂😂
I say flip it back over and make it a bird bath? The drips looked like tree tops
Yeah that would be cool :)
I thought that water prevents resin from curing? Im not sure how it would work?
I think that one's a 'yeah, nah'. Great effort though 😂👍🏽
You made Australian salt water taffy. Poisonous and deadly like 90% of everything living in Australia. 😂😂
Similar idea of Isomalt with ice
What would happen if you blew up a bunch of tiny balloons, put them in a container of some kind, poured resin on them, and after it cured pop the balloons? There would be gaps where the balloons were. That is if the balloons didn’t pop from the heat of the resin. Again, not sure if it would work.
Put some little penguins all over it, make a diorama/glacier scene.
To sharpen your sissors, cut some aluminum foil,.
Garden home for smurfs!!😂
Make it a Star Wars Lego sculpture. It's icy Hoth.
I was yelling at the screen, hoping you could hear me.. resin and water don't mix lol. I loved this video though😅
The Ordinary Sausage of resin.
This is praise btw
put light bulb in it and a base on it and hang it on the wall
I see an octopus table lamp
Do a lamp
THE BLOB! Try again. Leave it in the freezer for a month. Also use some cooking spray on the gloves and plastic. fondant icing gone wrong!
Put a fake polarbear on top and a light under it
Dry ice?
Make a fountain
"where is the resin?"
"it's in the hole"
kinda looks like bob from mega mind
Moisture is your issue. Dry ice is a more viable option for your desired result.
I'd bin it lol
Make It a MEDUSA
It's such a beautiful mess
Since you put it in the Sunlight to melt the ice, no I am wondering if UV resin would work with ice.
Awesome Video Ben's worx and Nicole also I hope you are all well and I think you should revisit hot resin +ice sculpture 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
There's a sculptor who cures resin in a freezer, but he's doing super deep pours that would overheat otherwise, and it's in there for 2+ weeks.
Are you talking about BM sculptures?
and there's no water involved. water+resin=disaster
@@lechatbotte. That's the one!
@@lechatbotte.I love his videos. His wood and resin sculptures are always so awesome
@@RandomBogey he’s amazing. I love what he does with bike tires too
I wonder what would happen if you used cubes of wax? On a really hot day, I think that paraffin would melt out, but beeswax would be more of a sure thing.
I was wondering the same. They could use a heat gun to melt out wax too. And the Artcast resin curing gets into the melting temperature range of paraffin wax also, so it might work a bit more like they were hoping this would.
Yeah I think that would work well 😊
The waxes used by jewellers for carving are worth a look and can take higher temps before they melt.
As a concept, you'd need something that stays solid at curing temp but could then be melted without affecting the resin. Beyond that, you're working with items that could either be removed after (like balls or balloons) or casting clear resin that would serve as an artificial void in a container while colored resin seeps into the negative space. That latter idea would result in a solid chunk that gave the appearance of holes -- of a kind, anyway.
How about using a large bag of clear marbles instead of ice??? (coat them with a thick few layers of that spray release for silicone moulds)! Also wouldn't making a bag out of Aluminium foil work better? (I'm fairly certain at least on the shiny side of aluminium that it will peel off the resin easy) Or coat the inside of the bag with the release spray. ALSO I've seen other UA-camrs use Orbeez in a container then pour resin in. (Use one with a lid so you can mix it) Or put them inside a large balloon add water let them expand then add resin....
Damn you laws of thermodynamics!!
It makes me happy to see you two enjoying one another's company 😊
You just made a... "Thing". What a beautiful ... "Thing" you've got there!
A fun experiment. Glad to see yall both having fun, even if it didn't turn out like you originally wanted. It makes me think of a jellyfish. Would be a neat nightstand lamp, or if those drips/legs were stable and strong enough, could even be a kids stool or chair.
I would turn it upside down and plant something in it. That was hilarious and I actually think the end result wasn't awful - loved hearing you and Nicole laugh :)
😂 Thanks Lisa!!
Turn the blob into one of your Star Wars diorama. Dome side up.
I had same idea.
That was a fantastic video! I was engrossed with every step. I honestly think we'd all probably watch you two watching tv if it was our only choice. 😂 Thank you for making my saturday morning great for the umpteenth time. 😘😘😘😘
Thanks Julie-Ann we appreciate you 😊
