    14th Mad Fact about Mad Max
    The Mazda Bongo van smashed in the opening scene of the first movie is actually director George Miller's own car as they'd run out of money. That's commitment.

    The dog in Road Warrior was saved from being euthanized by the filmmakers, One day before he was to be put to sleep. After filming he was adopted by one of the Camera operators.

    • @KlunkerRider
      @KlunkerRider 9 років тому +25

      Tommy Vercetti The budget was too low, they couldn't afford a legitimate trained dog actor and accompanying human handler (IOWs like Eddie in the TV show "Frasier") so instead they went to the local dog pound and found that sheep dog mix. Sheep dogs are very intelligent and that particular dog must have shown a natural ability or had been previously well trained, so they saved it one day before it was scheduled to be put down, and you cannot tell anywhere in the movie that its not a professionally trained acting dog, lucky lucky dog.

    The original Mad Max movie is raw power dripping with pure insanity. It was made on a budget that wouldn't cover the catering costs of a major motion picture too. So why can't other movies be as good? Why, why, why!

    • @legofan370
      @legofan370 8 років тому +4

      Just look at a film like Deadpool. It had the lowest budget out of all the superhero movies that came out this year, yet, it is hands down the best. It is mainly because Tim Miller (the director) had to work with a small budget of 58 mil which was cut down from the original 65 mil hence, actually trying and working hard to make a great film and he succeeded. However, Batman v Superman (250 mil), Civil War (250 mil), and Apocalypse (178 mil) had huge budgets but were disappointments (with the exception of Civil War, even though I think it is not as good everyone says it is). That's because many directors and studios think more money the better, and a better film, when that is not always the case. That is when 9 times out of 10, indie films are so much better because they have smaller budgets to work with and making a more personal film with great writing.

      *****
      we've scientifically proven that excess resources leads to poor performance. The human mind appears to naturally succumb to this pitfall too. But at the same time studios, and directors have more of an agenda than just making a good movie. Sometimes a good movie today is better than a better movie tomorrow would be. Throwing money at things can speed processes up too.

      Calling a Deadpool a good movie is a joke. Sure it is the best out of the superhero movies but still sucks ass and I regret watching it. While the tiny budget for Mad Max made the best movie of all times.

    • @legofan370

      Even though the first Mad Max was so boring it took me 2 days to watch. I think the first Mad Max is remembered more for its legacy rather than the film itself. Mainly because I watched the film and only the last 15 minutes or so was entertaining. It was just a boring movie with some good performances and a good world. The second film is very well done, but a tad overrated. The third I have yet to watch. The fourth is just cinematic perfection.

    • @legofan370
      @legofan370 8 років тому

      Plus, I used Deadpool as an example more so for the fact it accomplished A LOT with a smaller budget. That's the point I was trying to get across, whether you liked the film or not.

    I think it's really interesting that the Director and his team wrote detailed back stories for each character, weapon, vehicle etc in the films, to explain how they came to be the way they were, an incredible amount of effort when one of the main complaints about the Max films is their lack of a backstory. The MadMax Bible site has a couple of very interesting analyses of the timelines and backstories including information from production documents and scripts.

      The one I hear of the most is when the biker (wearing the orange helmet) gets hit on the back of the head (Kirks Bridge scene). The guy that did that stunt is dale B and he's very much alive. He's also a member here that has contributed TONS of pics and info to us fans.
      I remember being at a car show a while back when someone checking out my car told me that this guy was killed when he got hit on the back of the head by the bike wheel. I asked how he knows this and he said it was a distant relative..... I showed him the autographed pic of Dale (wearing the shirt I sent him that has a pic of my car on it) I have in the photo book I keep with the car and said...."that's funny, I just spoke to him a few weeks back on the phone and he sounded alive to me"

      TBH, Fury Road is basically the car chase scene from Road Warrior, for two hours. Which is a pretty amazing thing.
      Fury Road is, imo, a better all around movie with the exception of Tom Hardy (who still did a very good job) playing Max, due to his issues holding the accent steady.

    Just got home from watching Mad Max Fury Road. Not much story line and it's almost 1 long car chase but an extreme car chase. Having said that it was an awesome movie that will keep you engaged from start to finish and satisfies your inner warrior. The custom vehicles were far more elaborate than the ones I got close up to on the set of Beyond Thunderdome which were either Ford F100 4wd's or Holden 1 tonners with the bodies removed and cow and horse hides stretched over them. The big foot rock crawler in Fury Road was much nicer.

    Absolutely LOVED #MadMax !! Highly recommend!! 2 hours packed with action it was such a WEIRD world yet fascinating! The costumes were on point, the actors were in character the whole time I felt like I was part of the action too! Lots of sound effects! I was mostly amused by the fact the cavalry brought their own guitarist and drummers to play along as their war went on! I loved the visuals, this was so unusual and to me unusual is interesting so I loved their "cult[ure] and crazy world! I had not heard ANYTHING about Mad Max prior to seeing this trailer. I don't even know who the actor "Max" is, I did not read anything about this on Wikipedia or any other site. Clean slate. This movie could stand alone no need to watch a gazillion other movies to understand it. Charlize Theron, stellar as always! It will all be clear as it progresses, there's climax all throughout highly progressive! The movie felt like it was about to end in 3 parts and I'm glad it didn't bc I craved for more! I can see how there can be more to this and I can't wait for the next installment! 5 stars for action and uniqueness oh by the way there's more action than talking in this movie so don't expect a chick flick bc this isn't! :D LOVED this madness GO SEE!!!

    According to the DVD commentary on The Road Warrior, the dog in the movie was picked up at the last minute from a local dog shelter. It was just an ordinary mutt and didn't have any special training, but Miller says in the commentary that it was a "natural actor" and a "little star". It took a particular liking for Mel during the filming. After the movie was completed, the dog was given to one of the crew members. Where he spent the long remainder of his life herding sheep on the crew member's ranch.

      The voices of the actors convey the acting as top notch.

      This had nothing to do with one countries "IQ" as you put it. It had to do with all the Aussie slang used. COnsidering back then there was no internet or any real way for people to look things up, most of the WORLD would have no CLUE what they were saying if they had kept in the slang. IMO, they should have just kept the accents and done away with the slang.

    You forgot the one about George Miller sacrificing his own car in a scene in the first Mad Max movie because the film budget was running out. In the first chase, Charlie and Roop hit a blue Mazda Bongo van. that was Miller's own car.The Kawasakis in that movie were donated for the film. The black Monaro coupe that was blown up in the first chase was actually a 6 cylinder. Just in case you're thinking "what a waste," it was in crap condition to begin with. I know the sound that engine was making, because I used to own an HQ Kingswood (the sedan version of that coupe) which had a 202, a modified exhaust and a Holley. Sounded exactly like it at 3000rpm

    Fact 14: Mel Gibson only had eleven (11) lines in the original...
    Fact 15: the Supercharger on Max's Interceptor was not real & was run via an electric motor hence why it could be turned on & off...
    Fact 16: the original Mad Max was filmed in Spotswood an inner-city suburb of melbourne (Halls of Justice) at an old power station & the rest was filmed around the bayside suburb of Geelong, which is where Anarchy Rd (a real road) is situated.
    Fact 17: Mad Max 2/ Roadworrior was filmed outside of Broken Hill in outback New South Wales.

    -The supercharger in the first mad max is fake and driven by an electric motor.
    -In early 2016 the owner of the mad max museum went back to the site where mad max 2 was made and dug 6 feet into the dirt and found 2 motorcycles that was blown up and left in the base
    -The main mad max car used in the second film was the exact car that was use in the first film, so if you see two cars one from each film you know that at least the one out of the first film is fake

    Everybody seems to prefer Mad Max 2 but I never understood why. I watched it twice, I sincerely tried to look for its qualities, but I never found them. I sincerely prefer all the other Mad Max movies by far. Can anyone here argue about why (s)he appreciates that movie?

    • @InnerWorlds
      @InnerWorlds 8 років тому +7

      +AigreSonge Easy. It has the purest post-apocalyptic feel to it, whereas Thunderdome doesn't know whether it's supposed to be Mad Max or Peter Pan. The first film is closer to normal society and thus dystopian at best, with law enforcement and other things still functioning. The romance may turn some people off. It's also very random and idiosyncratic, which some people might not "get". Personally I enjoy the idiosyncrasies, and it's hard to argue against him losing his wife being the key to what turns him into Mad Max in the first place. But Mad Max 2 shows you what he *becomes*, which is the epitome of the genre.

    • @martinkuliza
      @martinkuliza 8 років тому

      No... I Prefer part 1 actually over part 2And everyone that I know agrees with this philosophyI don't want to argueI'm not going tobut what I can say isPart 1 is the best by farPart 2 si very very very good, no question, and very close to beating part 1, but doesn't quite get therethunderdome doesn't come close to beating 1 or 2, but it's still very goodas for Fury Road...... hehe yeah, whatever hehe

    • @BlackStar250874
      @BlackStar250874 8 років тому

      Well, like others already said, the purest post-apocalyptic feel and you must remember, it created a whole new genre which has appeared in countless games, movies and comics. Games like Fallout wouldn't be here without it.
      I don't understand why its qualities escape your grasp, because it is considered one of the greatest action movies ever. Also almost all scenes are perfectly shot and the whole simple script works beautifully.
      The first Mad Max movie of course creates this whole world, and while some seem to dislike it, I would say it is a classic dystopian movie with Australian spices, made with a minimal budget, which caused its entry to the Guinness Book of World Records.
      The third one is a bit silly, although there are some good qualities there as well. Fury Road is a good movie, but Hardy was way bland/dull compared Gibson and was so lost in this movie, which mostly was about Furiosa. Also those flashbacks were stupid.
      And why include so many guns? The whole point of earlier Mad Max world was the lack of everything, including firearms (that late 80's Glock is weird too in a movie which contains mostly cars from the 70's). Also when looking at the whole world and how it worked, it seemed to be many decades after the apocalypse, not only 10 or 15.
