To write this song, Daniel Balavoine was inspired in 1980 by the Oscar-winning film, Kramer versus Kramer with Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, a film itself inspired by the novel by Avery Corman. The title sold more than 500,000 copies, it was a real success. He demands the right for men to have custody of their children. There the lyrics :
It's been a long time since you left
I listen to you take my life apart while crying
If I had known that one morning I would be there, soiled, judged on a bench
By the shadow of a body that I have held so often For a child
You tell them that my job is wind
That we don't know what I will be in a year
If they knew that for you before, of all the singers I was the greatest
And that's why you wanted a child. Grown up
Judges and laws It doesn't scare me, it's my son, my battle
She shouldn't go away, ho ho ho Oh I'm going to break everything
if you touch the fruit of my womb
    She shouldn't have gone
Of course she wore it and yet, ho ho
It's me who slowly builds his life
All she can say about me Is nothing compared to the smile he gives me
Judges and laws It doesn't scare me, it's my son, my battle
She shouldn't go away, ho ho ho Oh I'm going to break everything
if you touch the fruit of my womb
    She shouldn't have gone

Love from France ! Thank you very much to react to his songs ! Daniel is a true legend like JJ Goldman in France. You have no idea. His voice and lyrics continue to teach me how to live, how to think and how to act. This man was an angel. RIP Daniel. We'll never forget him.

you're 90% right... you missed just an element (important, but it doesn't change the fact you were almost right for all the rest)... in fact, the mother in this song seems to try to "recuperate" the son after having left... That's why he speaks about Laws and Judges... she has left without the son, but now, he is saying that if she or the judges try to steal his son, he will break down all ("Je vais tout casser") ...

It is to Balavoine credit that he was on this planet for such a short while yet made such a huge impact on French music that even to this day French kids are learning his songs, his songs still play on the radio and each of his songs became pretty iconic. I was a toddler when he died but when I listen to his music I’m overwhelmed with nostalgia.

You may think he's singing in playback, but he doesn't. Only the instrumental part is a playback. Balavoine is definitely one of the best french singers in history ❤

This song, inspired by the movie Kramer vs Kramer (a masterpiece with Merryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman) peint the story of a single father fighting in front of the judges to keep his son when the mother came back and sued him to have custody

Hello *Uncle D,* The pronunciation at the beginning is good (Bala), but for the last part, you need to know that "oine" in French is pronounced exactly like the digit "one" in English. Balav-one, so... 😉 (Just below ⇾ lyrics translation)
    *My son, my battle.*
It has been a long time since you left now.
I hear you dismantle my life while crying.
If I had known one morning I'd be there, soiled, judged on a bench
By the body shadow I've hugged so often,
    For a child.

You tell them my job is only wind.
That we don't know what I'll become in a year.
If they knew that for you, before, of all the singers, I was the greatest.
And that's why you wanted a child
    Who grew up.

    The judges and laws,
They don't scare me; he's my son, my battle
She shouldn't have gone, ho ho ho...
Oh, I'll break everything if you touch
    To the fruit of my womb;
    She shouldn't have gone.

Of course, she's the one who has carried him, and yet, ho-ho,
    It's me who has slowly built his life;
Everything she can tell about me
Is nothing compared to the smile he sends me.
Absence has wrongs that nothing defends,
    He's my child.

    The judges and laws,
They don't scare me; he's my son, my battle.
She shouldn't have gone, ho ho ho.
Oh, I'll break everything if you touch
    To the fruit of my womb;
    She shouldn't have gone.

    The judges and laws,
They don't scare me; he's my son, my battle.
Oh, I'll break everything if you touch
To the fruit of my womb, ho-ho-ho,
    Hoo, hoo, hooo...
Oh, She shouldn't have gone, ho-ho-ho...
    Peace, folks. ☮😉

The translation is so bad that it doesn't have anything to do with the lyrics anymore.
Basically, he's dragged in the mud by his ex-wife so she can get their son"s custody. He doesn't agree with that because she left and never took care of the kid. He will fight to the end to get his son's custody.
