Jordan has always given Pip his flowers. On the Dream Team he picked Pip first in scrimmages to be on his team. But when he came into the league he was soft that was his rep. In practice M.J made sure he was defended by Pippen. Who cares what the media says if the GOAT says you helped make him the GOAT.
Def, dude continually fails to see his own value.. I guess that’s what happens when you’re as good as pip was but you’re stuck in the shadow of the greatest to ever play your sport your whole career.
The documentary was more than fair to Pippen and the tag line is something MJ has said himself. These descriptions are to encourage people to by the book.
I like Pippen but he acts like a little bitch sometimes. Jordan gave more than enough praise to Pippen during their playing days and after. Pippen gets upset about something in The Last Dance that he did, it’s not like he didn’t do it.
From what I pieced together from reading about the book: Scottie is saying he was an essential element of the Bulls championship teams. Without him they would not have won. He is not saying they could have won without Michael. My guess is he is going to say that he was the leader the other players talked too. He was the good cop to Michael's bad cop. I'm not saying I agree with Scottie but he isn't saying he was as good as Jordan player as a player. Again, I could be wrong, we will see when the book is released.
everything that scottie said is true and EVERYONE knows it already so what is he trying to say exactly? i'm confused, he's just regurgitating what's already been said about him...
@@windridermach Pippen was lucky to play with Jordan If he never got traded to the bulls We wouldn't even know who Pippen was so Pippen needs to be thankful
Pippen averaged 15.7 on 34% in the 96' Finals... This is just 1 of MANY series where Pippen was horrible, but no one noticed or cared because only 1 man was responsible for winning - MJ... Pippen averaged 17/7/5 on 41% for the entire 96-98' Playoffs, and 19.0 on 42% in 6 Finals... He simply never led... He's just a liar and a low-producing bum that Jordan carried.. Pippen had a .500 ballclub in 95' before MJ returned to carry Pippen to another 3-peat in his first full seasons back. And anyone decent wins alongside Jordan.. Stockton/Malone were basically B2B champs in 97/98, so Stockton/MJ would win every year.. Stockton had twice as many All-NBA as Pippen.. Smits/Miller nearly beat the 98' Bulls and made the 00' Finals, so Smits/MJ win every year... Etc, etc..
I've done research for years about Pippen's impact on the team and what you said is exactly what my research says. Steve Kerr described Pippen as his favorite teammate. Most of the players said when Mike retired and Pippen was the leader they had the most fun playing basketball. As people found out in the Documentary ( I already knew) MJ was extremely hard on his teammates. As you so eloquently stated they often talked to Pippen and he consoled them. The problem is the media ran a narrative for years which uplifted MJ to GOD status. Now obviously his playstyle and his accomplishments speak for themselves but basketball is a team sport. Pippen complemented Jordan NOT just as a basketball player but as a leader. His polar opposite personality is what kept that Team together. This is why MJ never wanted to play without Phil and wanted to keep Pippen around. Because Phil and Pippen helped Jordan with his major weakness, which was his lack of trust in those around him, his impatience, and his lack of emotional intelligence.
“He helped me so much in the way I approached the game, the way I played the game. Whenever they speak Michael Jordan, they should speak Scottie Pippen. When everybody says, well, I won all these championships, but I didn’t win without Scottie Pippen. That’s why I consider him my best teammate of all time.” Quoted by MJ.
@@adrianprince7266 I understand why Pippen is mad. But fam that is part of the game, I know some year can be bad, Rough & sometime awful. But is ok because you did something that only a few players did in NBA history.
@@adrianprince7266 it sure doesn't help. Mike rightly praised him, but he can't take a little bit of heat. A little that was at least somewhat self inflicted?
That was MJ tho. Always building his teammates up & given props where deserved, although he would crush them behind closed doors. He liked how scottie played his role better than anyone.
MJ said in his Hall of Fame speech that there would be no Michael Jordan without Scottie Pippen. So this blurb is right but there's a bit of hyperbole to sell the book. Let's keep a level head until we get an opportunity to read the book

I didn’t know he quit on his team during a playoff game because Phil gave some other cat the ball for the last shot and the dude made the shot won the game while Scottie was on the bench
I remember Jordan constantly acknowledging how important Pippin was and how much he relied on him...bad look by Scottie being such a bitter dude these days
Scottie really took his portrayal in The Last Dance hard. But nothing in there wasn't real. The Last Dance also demonstrated his redemption against Utah. I guess he stopped watching before that episode.
@@Brehon_TalkingFinance No one shitted on Pippen except Pippen himself with all the drama he showed. Everyone in the team knew of his worth. The 90's Bulls were a Jordan and Pippen team, though more Jordan's than Pip's, but that is not saying it any less. As a grown-ass man (with an agent to guide him in Jimmy Sexton), he should have handled his negotiations better. His attitude against the Knicks was pathetic. He purposely delayed his surgery so he can coerce the management regarding his pay. Those were properly documented. Face it, Scottie made questionable actions that bit him later. Didn't MJ do what is greatly considered to be the paramount of praises as a teammate during MJ's HOF speech? Isn't that not respect enough for you? If anything, it was MJ who was supposed to look worse than he already was perceived to be due to how hard and harsh he was to his teammates.

@@onpoint4227 I know MJ was a better player and definitely the most entertaining out of them all, but damn... Pippen really ain’t pissed at Jordan; it’s the media and NBA community that push him down to raise up Jordan. PS: Magic rivals Jordan in the entertainment area.
To answer one of the caller’s question, MJ won a NCAA championship, an Olympic gold medal before he played a NBA game & 2 international championships without Scottie.
Jordan’s Tar Heels never even sniffed a championship once it was his team. Kinda like he got his a$$ bounced out of the playoffs for almost a decade until Scottie evolved into a perennial all-star. Be realistic and take off the blinders man. MJ didn’t invent the NBA. He just had the best marketing machine.
@@cole8165 I don't have any blinders. Once again, where does MJ get credit? As a Pippen-like contributor for UNC when he was a freshman or when he was a leader for the Bulls? Also, like I said before, Worthy or Dean Smith didn't win anything until MJ got there. MJ wasn't the greatest ever in the 80's although he was a great talent. He hadn't mastered the game. His "absolute" prime was during the 1st 3peat---where your mental game and bball skills are both very high at the same time. Go back and look at other great players around the ages of 27/28 to 30 and see what they did. Pippen was an all star in 1990 and 1995 but the Bulls still lost so there's no guarantee there either. Nobody said MJ invented the NBA...he was just the best to play in that league. As far as marketing, why didn't other guys like Dominique or Drexler get marketed like that? It goes hand-in-hand...if MJ was just decent, that whole marketing campaign goes down the drain. BUT it stayed away from the drain because.... he did lead the league in scoring 10 straight years, he did go 6-0 in the Finals, he did have two 3peats, he did win Finals MVP every time, he did make 9 all defensive 1st teams, he did make the All star team every year, he did win the All star MVP 3 times, he did lead the league in steals 3 years, he did win MVP 5 times, he did win MVP & DPOY the same year, he did go 12-0 on any biggest stage whether college, NBA, Olympics & other int'l play, he did hit many clutch shots and made many clutch plays, he did play through sickness/injury effectively, he did dominate the league, he did master the game, he did have the will-to-win.
@@cole8165 Exaggeration much? Pippen was still coming off the bench when Jordan won his first playoff series. Was far from being a perennial all star. The truth is sufficient to show that Jordan needed help. No need to exaggerate. However, it wasn't Pippen alone that made the difference.

People here dont understand what the odd couple were trying to say so let me dissect this. Yes, MJ could not have won without Pippen just like everybody in NBA in history BUT DO NOT GET IT TWISTED! Scottie in his book at least according to the synopsis - he wants to be viewed in the same category as Mike. Well, without him Mike won't be the GOAT and for him he should be viewed in a similar light. I agree with the odd couple. If he cringed at being MJ's sidekick, there was no stopping him from outplaying MJ but he couldn't. He learned from MJ, and there were series where Pippen just wasnt into it and Jordan carried all the burden. No, there is no equality between Jordan and Pippen.
Jordan carried the Bulls in 98 with a 40 year old Rodman who was past his prime and Pippen recovering from a surgery that he should have gotten way earlier. He nearly cost Jordan his 6th championship but MJ wanted it too much and dragged everyone across the finish line. That's why Jordan is the GOAT and why no one can come close to him.
He actually led it 8 years in a row....an nba record and 10 in 14 season. Mind you his streak was broken mostly due to his injury his second season where he missed 70 games. And his retirement for two years and returning with only 17 games left in the season.
@@Runforestrun Actually it was 10 in a row not including retirement years. Every year he played a full season that stretch, he led the league in scoring. Unreal.
Yes he led the league in scoring 10 times which is awesome, but that still needs context. How many shots did he take in comparison to other players? Sometimes it's easier to lead the league in scoring when you take more shots than everyone else.
In 94 Pippen when MJ was playing baseball Pippen was great..living in Chicago I watched most of the games...taking the last second shot was clearly not his thing..he tried to filled them shoes even though the shoe didn't fit...his ego couldn't take playing second fiddle to Kukoc in crunch time who had that clutch gene...it wasn't just that playoff game against NYK...The waiter had his share of buzzer beaters..
Chris u are 100% right. I’m so sick of 90’s fans and their opinions. If you are not 40+ years and didn’t watch the NBA in the EIGHTIES not just the 90’s then your opinion does not count. It is uninformed. Yes Pip was developed. He did NOT show up in the NBA as a gamer. Not even close. No different than Brad Sellers or Stacey King or any other of the Bulls HELPERS. Mike saw something in Scottie. And with Mikes guidance and his own effort Scottie became a great player. Chris is totally right. Why can’t Scottie just be GRATEFUL as he should be.
Rob is so mad cause people that help others and Rob has helped a ton of people in media and in other things. People get mad when they see others bit the hand that feed them and that's Scottie's unappreative disrespectful ass.
Pippen's whole career he never got the full respect he deserved because the media saw a compliment to Pippen as an insult to Jordan. That's why the greatest defender of all-time doesn't have one DPOY award. I just find it crazy that years later Pippen is finally getting the credit he deserves, but only to discredit Jordan.
He should have gotten his respect. But he was named one of the top 50 players of all time. However, he wasn't the leader MJ was. He failed on multiple occasions when he could have showed how much of a "Real" leader he was. If it wasn't for MJ, there is no Scottie. MJ was gonna be MJ regardless. Scottie left the Bulls and turned into a guy. When he was at Portland, he wasn't anywhere close to a leader.
@@Avarice-Zero How come when Jordan fans give "credit" to Pip they always start and end with "He's a top 50 player of all time" why not give the man all the credit he deserves, he deserved a dpoy and brought the team to a ecf or semi finals by himself the year Jordan retired lmao.
How is Scottie the greatest defender of all time when Hakeem, Russell, MJ, are in front of the line? Plus Kawhi plays just as good of defense and lead a team in scoring and to the finals.
I'm not buying the narrative that "they could have put any number 2" in the squad like Chris and Rob are pushing. Pip was good for 20 ppg and was the one of the best defensive players in the game.
If Scottie had a bit of the 'Help' MJ had throughout this career, he would have had that call in 94, and possibly would have won the ring; and he would have definitely won with Blazers in 2000 - of course, Stern had decided to invest in Lakers at that point.

When Pip hit his true prime in the league, the SF spot was IN TRANSITION! When Pip first entered the league in 1987, the guys like Bird, Nique, Worthy, English, Aguirre, Dantley, etc. were still in the prime of their careers. The mid 80s were the Golden Era of the SF spot. And a lot those guys were still in their prime when Pip hit the league. When Pip won his first ring in 1991, Nique was the ONLY ONE of those guys still in the prime of his career. Bird's back was giving out and the other guys fell outta their prime. So the SF position wasn't NEARLY as deep in depth when it came to great players at that time. Mullin and Pippen emerged as All Stars right around the same time. So Pip ONLY had Nique and Mullin as superstar future HOF type SF's to battle. So was Pip a great player?? YES!!! But could Pip at his peak WILL the Hawks like Nique did vs. Bird's Celtics in 1988?? Nique pushed that Celtics team to Game 7! The Celtics had WAY MORE TALENT than the Hawks. BUT Nique was such an unstoppable scorer that he took a TREMENDOUS scoring burden off the rest of his teammates. From there they had guys who knew their roles and were key cogs in their own way. So YA Pip was a better defender and passer than Nique. BUT Nique was just as good a rebounder. And was WAYYYY better than Pip scoring the rock. AT one point one of the top 2-3 scorers on the planet!

Think that ppl misinterpret is his mental state to the game, Jordan wasn't just about skills, strength, ball-IQ and all....his biggest asset is mental...and that's what Kobe also possessed. This is just a weird argument. Pippen is a great player, but lets not act as if Jordan would have just been completely by himself for his entire career. I love Scottie Pippen. I'm from the south side of Chicago and watched every single minute of every single game during the dynasty. The simple fact is that the amount of attention that Jordan got on the court gave Pippin room to grow into his own. Jordan could turn on offense and defense like nobody else. You can go and watch Jordan's dunk highlight videos and half of them come off of him stealing the ball. Scottie is wrong for doing this especially since Jordan has ALWAYS given credit to Pippen for his success. I’ll save my final judgement until I actually read the book, but if he indeed threw Jordan under the bus to sell a book, that’s incredibly corny.
@@sergeant1446I take it you never played competitive sports. Ribbing is part of it. When MJ told them not to feed Horace Grant, he was joking. He said it, but he didn't say it being serious. Jordan didn't need Scottie to get out of the first round you idiot. The Bulls kept getting bounced in the 1st round cuz the team outside Jordan was utter garbage and they were playing in the tougher conference. Granted, to the majority of people Michael is the GOAT... But it's not like he played all five positions himself. Pip is also an all time great, one of the best defenders the game has ever seen, the man is one of only a few basketball players that have no real weaknesses to his game, but because of Jordan's popularity around the world it's never the Bulls won six championships, it's just Jordan won six championships, Jordan never lost in the Finals etc. If I was Pip I would have a bit of resentment aswell, the man was absolutely amazing but he is constantly overlooked.
@@andrewmcfarlane6065 Yes because they lost a key piece in Grant and for the second three peat run they added one of the best rebounders and defenders of all time in Dennis Rodman to the team, let's not just overlook that. Also the year before Pip was a legit MVP performer and without a bs call in game five in New York the Bulls might have won a championship without Jordan, let's also not pretend like Jordan wasn't one and nine in the playoffs for three years before pip arrived. Forget Michael Jordan -- Scottie Pippen wasn't in the same league as Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, David Robinson and Karl Malone, and those guys were a step behind Jordan. For that matter, Pippen wasn't better than Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, Dominique Wilkins and John Stockton. I also could argue that Gary Payton was every bit of Pippen's equal, and don't forget Shaquille O'Neal was in the NBA in the early 1990s and Pippen wasn't close to the player Shaq was.
Not sure why Scottie is so insecure, MJ even says in the last dance there are no 6 rings without Scottie, that Scottie is the greatest teammate he’s ever had
4:40 with the bench tantrum that he threw in Game 3 against the Knicks, he tarnished his legacy. And then he went to Houston, had issues there as well. Went to Portland, and then choked down a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter of Game 7 of the WCF to the Lakers in 2000.

Even Pippen's best Playoffs (1991 or 1992), he still tried his best to sabatoge the Bulls - he committed the idiotic foul on a stumbling Vlade to lose Game 3 (if not for MJ heroics), and he was demolished in the 92' ECSF, which nearly caused an upset loss to the Knicks. Every other year, he was carried the entire time... His 93' Playoffs had a 2.0 BPM with lower PER, WS/48 and pace-adjusted scoring than 14' Wade... Then he averaged 17 on 41% for the 96-98' Playoffs, and 11 ppg in the 99-03' Playoffs or 88-90' Playoffs.. So he was a trainwreck every Playoffs, except 91' or 92' (where he STILL had some debacles that nearly caused loss)
Thats the problem he feel like he should get more credit, but everybody gives pip his credit but people have feeling inside that other people dont know its like a little brother walking in his big brother shadow.

Astute.
everything that scottie said is true and EVERYONE knows it already so what is he trying to say exactly? i'm confused, he's just regurgitating what's already been said about him...
So pippen coming out now after Michael said that, makes pippen look even worse.

MJ wasn't the greatest ever in the 80's although he was a great talent. He hadn't mastered the game.

Pippin is not better than mchale as a sidekick...

I love scottie pippen and it kinda hurt me that his throwing shade at MJ. But i think Pip is overly praising himself. In '93-'94 season without MJ, he averaged 22 ppg in the reg season and in the playoffs. I dont think thats enough to carry your team in the playoffs. In some occassions, Phil chose Toni Kukoc to shoot the game winner instead of Scottie. But pip still have the right to tell his story and i still hav respect for the man.
Wrong...Pip was the 1st player ever to lead his team in all offensive categories that year. Points, reb, steals, assists, blocks, etc. Since then it's only been Lebron and Kevin Garrett
Wasn't Pippen an MVP candidate that year?????
@@XQnoU Only in the playoffs. 22 ppg, 8.3 rpg 4.6 apg. The bulls still did well bec. they won championships prior to that year. Their confidence and winning attitude persisted in '93-94 season.. This is just a weird argument. Pippen is a great player, but lets not act as if Jordan would have just been completely by himself for his entire career. If there was no Pippen, the Bulls would've found another player to support Jordan. What happens if they draft a dominant center instead? Alonzo Morning? Or Shaq? David Robinson? The bulls never went a game 7 against the lakers in the playoffs 🤷🏿♂️
@@deondrehilson2364 I talking about Portland game 7 while pippen played with Portland in 2000
A dude with CAREER AVERAGES of 16.1 points 6.4 rebounds 5.2 assist & PER 18.6 saying this about Jordan who has CAREER AVERAGES of 30.1 points 6.2 rebounds 5.3 assist & PER 27.9...... Pippen is GREAT no doubt but some hall of farmers are HOFer because they game & numbers & SOME HOFers are in the HOF because of WHO they played with...... Jordan with ZERO rings still going in the HOF but Pippen with ZERO rings NOT going in the HOF & those are 100% FACTS!!!!!
And Jordan didn’t make the playoffs in Washington
Jordan quit on the Bulls at the eve of training camp in 1993
@@thagame7528 well at the age of 39 and 40. And the Wizards were 4th in thr East before Jordan got injured in the 01/02 season. This is after not playing for 3 full seasons.
And you are comparing taking time off for a personal tragedy to quitting on his team? A bit desperate aren't you?
How many playoff wins in Washington?
@@thagame7528 lol bruh he didn't reach the playoffs. But I think you are a bit thick to understand context or age or injuries. But keep up your desperation.
@@thagame7528 so pippen is the reason bulls won with 16 ppg average..lol...you are an idiot..every team has players..pippen was second fiddle...stop making him more important than he was...
