MY PORSCHE CAYMAN S HAD ONE VERY DANGEROUS FAULT

- In today’s video I take my Cayman 987 to Sam Lander Porsche at Malton to be checked over before I complete the epic North Coast 500 in the next week. The car went in for a full inspection and for a repair on the gearbox sump. The sump has broken down over the years and started to lose a fair bit of oil so it was about time it was sorted. During the inspection Sam found some very alarming problems, something that could have been dangerous and when you considering I went to the Nurburgring with the car it was lucky it didn’t cause an accident.
Along with the repairs in this video I talk about some of the plans I have with my channel, the content I’m going to produce and the plans for this epic little Porsche.

Thanks for watching
Joe 😊
Surly the guy who set your suspension up so amazing may be responsible for the loose bolt
Maybe so, never would be able to prove it. Seems odd. Scary tho!
Great update. I really enjoy the journey with your Cayman. Kudos to you for keeping on top of it so you can enjoy it.
Bolt is a bit of bad luck and this video proves why it is okay to do some work yourself but it is always a good idea to take your car to a specialist who can pin point issues you just get used to as you use it. A fresh pair of eyes so to speak. Definitely not a failure on the DIYer.
Enjoy the road trip.
Loving the lifestyle approach Joe and I’m really happy how the channel has progressed for you.
Thank you! It’s all the support I’ve been given. Very humbling, people like you have always encouraged which is incredible!
With you on paying someone who knows what they’re doing!
Especially as they found a loose bolt 😳
Really enjoy your videos Joe. Here from Ontario Canada. I purchased my first Porsche a month ago., 2011 Boxster.
Nice to hear I have a subscriber from Ontario! My mum grew up in Bramalea! Enjoy your car! Good year too! No bore score risks for you!
Fresh ATF indeed makes a positive difference in performance. I put solid valve stems in all my vehicles for peace of mind and lifetime service. The rubber ones can deteriorate as you have seen. The guy who last worked on your suspension didn't tighten the bolt correctly. They don't loosen up on their own IMO.
Went out on track in a car with fresh fluid. The difference was night and day! I don’t have time now before my trip but it’s the first thing on the list when I get back
Hi Joe, had the same issue with my Porsche bolt MISSING! And both rear brake pipes corroded your not alone.
Really? That’s so odd! Did it also feel a little wobbly?
@@JoeTalksCars not so much wobbly, would squeak and rattle at low speed over bumps etc, was picked on a regular MOT the inspector said “ I hope you haven’t been going too fast “ not sure if it was the same bolt you had an issue with but mine definitely was suspension related .
If you were fitting cheap (or at least low quality) tyres or skimping on important service items I’d understand some criticism. The headunit is an area you can save money on if you are happy with the sound and functionality. It’s easily reversible by you or anyone later if you/they fancy a PCCM+. I’ve opted for a PCCM+ in my 996 but am looking at a large bill along with a few others…probably not worth the extra I’m going to have paid but we’ll see. I will certainly lack a reverse camera which I’d have liked, albeit not so necessary with a fairly small car. It’d be interesting to see a side by side comparison of otherwise similar systems but I guess at least the sound quality would be hard to show via a video.
Very good point! It makes sense to cheap out so I can listen to my music, been using it weeks now and it’s perfect still. It can handle 360 cameras, what they would be like I’m not so sure, don’t fancy a camera as I don’t want them visible. Like you said it’s a small car so it’s no big deal.
Have a safe trip up north Joe!
Thank you!
Super video again Joe
Do you not do the basic checks on your car? Tiers are the only thing that keeps you on the road 😮
Erm I do! That’s why it was surprising, we think now that the camber bolt was so lose is caused it to rub against something.
There is virtually no road noise coming from your mic setup. What mic is clipped to your shirt? It looks different than the link in the description
I need to update my list! That’s a job for tonight. I have a DJI MIC 2
When they replaced the drain sump on the Tiptronic did they also change out the filter and the fluid too? If so it should make a difference in how it works. Good thing getting the service items taken care of and hope you have an excellent road trip.
Did you not watch the video? The filter was shown when he first went in the garage and he spoke about the improvement at the end of the video.
They did! Seriously improved the drive.
@@jimmyjt16 No I didn't actually catch that part of it, just notice the mechanic holding the sump and the debris magnet. Guess I can view the video again, but Joe answered my inquiry on it.
You better wash it before we go! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
If you plan a trip to Morocco, keep an eye out for the traffic police. They delight in targeting tourists and any foreign registration cars!
Good to know. It’s maybe a pipe dream but I think it would be epic.
Really interesting video Joe. What is the mileage on the Cayman?

@@popeye9048 Thanks, missed it first time round.
It’s on 78k now I think. She’s getting on now 🤣
What height are you? I'm 6ft 4 and wondering if I would fit
Im 6,2 and regularly wear a crash helmet in one, and fit fine. 😊
I’m just 6ft but there is so much room. Headroom in a cayman isn’t a problem for most I don’t think.
Nice!
If you’re looking to buy a Porsche boxter buy a gen 2 for peace of mind and better for your pocket 👍👍
@@johnwoodhead256 agreed! If only I knew. The only thing il say is the gen 1 looks better in my opinion, not sure what the my did with the gen 2 front end but it went weird.
