    He looks like a happy, joyous child playing that piano... What a wonder of musical genius... Just f****** mind-blowing. And how psychosis, mania, can creep into the unguarded cracks of a fragile mind - yet a steel-strong mind as well. And acute alcoholism - the damage that can cause. Bless his soul.

    If this was from 1985, that's two years before Jaco passed. Considering the struggles Jaco was dealing with at that time this is an amazing performance.

    You can't possibly have listened to any of Jaco's bass solos. Listen to his solos on "Port Of Entry", "Donna Lee", "(Used To Be A) Cha-Cha", "Havona" and "Punk Jazz" and you'll change your mind about his bass-playing!

      I would actually love a dramatized Jaco story to see WR in the limelight again. Studios would never do it because the teenyboppers won’t get it. It has to be an independent movie. One of the GOOD independent movies...

    • @ailishbethd4033
      @ailishbethd4033 2 роки тому +1

      Yes I can see the resemblance, but Brendan Fraser is a little too old now and it would just for the final years of his life. Jaco changed so much from that lean long-haired stunning looking young bass player. I don't know of any actor who could play him as a young man.

    I dont remember who it was who said it (Maybe Gerald Veasley, Vic Bailey or Marcus Miller...someone of that vain anyway) but they referred to Jaco saying, "My brother said "Yeah you can play his licks but could you come up with them in the first place?"
    For me, its a no brainer. Jaco is a legend in that respect. Yes there are technically better players but the guys natural ability was something else. in the 80's he had a MIDI set up sussed out and playing within 20mins of ever seeing it!!!

    • @michaelnelson3752
      @michaelnelson3752 Рік тому

      It was Muz Skillings................bassist of Living Color.........his brother had a Jaco record and raved about Jaco and Muz said ..........."I can play that stuff"............and his brother yeah but can you come up with this stuff like this?...........and that's when Muz got realized just how great Jaco was and how far off he was in that assessment of him..........

      Their is no best (insert musician here), because every musician is different and brilliant in their own way and every one has a preference to what musician they like. No musician is the "best" because there is no "best" type of instrument or music.

    like the Mod wheel was out of whack... or SUMthing. Still, pretty interesting..

  • @sibsbubbles
    @sibsbubbles 3 роки тому +1

    Clearly wasn't all there by this point. He knew enough to be able to play well, just didn't go to that full potential by that point any longer and just wasn't as tight as he once was on many fronts. He needed help. Desperately. Glad I figured it out and got help (drank too much). I found it exacerbated my mental trouble significantly as a musician too. You really do think you sound great but uh....no man um...things are distorted and you really can't recognize that until you get that help.

    What you call jazz I might call fusion as Weather Report more or less invented that term.
    Playing fretless was a Jaco invention , at least he was the first to get noticed doing that.
    If you had your ears correctly plugged in you would notice that Jaco never misses a note and it´s never false ,on the fretless.
    And was very technical
    On the piano he made fantastic chord/bass compositions but lacked a lot of tecnicality.
    I´ve played/ composed for 35 years.. how about you?

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 4 роки тому

      ShareTheSphere Please don’t blame the sublime Weather Report for having anything to do with ‘fusion’. Fusion is what people with loads of chops and zero ideas play. Weather Report was overflowing with fantastic musical inspiration and talent that went beyond genre.

    Apparently you still haven't listened to the Jaco-tunes I recommended. But I guess you'll still ignore it, since you seem to cherish commenting "Jaco sucks" under dozens of his videos. And for the last time, Jaco was held in high regard at the very instant he became internationally famous( around the time of his debut-album). Your behaviour is starting to annoy me, because writing these comments seems to be your primary habit on youtube. You have made your point clear long ago.

    If you compose music and gain some knowledge you do not automatically become a snob.
    And then as of any knowledge there is a better chance that you know what you are talking about .
    And you my friend are clueless , and there is no point debating this with you.
    My admiration for JP is solid and no punk without a clue can take that away.
    For me Jaco was very true to music ,absolutely one of the greatest.
    You will never understand what is great or not..

      I know this is from 10 years ago, but what the hell are you talking about my friend? Jaco might not be the best bass player of all time but you’re really telling me that this performance is better than teen town? Portrait of Tracy? Opus pocus? DONNA LEE?
