Compression: to start
High ratio
fastest attack
fastest release
Bring up the attack slowly until it's where you want
Move the release to till the gain reduction is back to 0
Ease up ratio
benja303 what is gain reduction? I didn’t get what release is
@@raghavattrey589 Gain reduction: How much of the original sound is pushed down.
Release: The time taken for the compressor to stop pushing the sound down.
dont forge the threshold
And what about the threshold?
Thanks btw

Hey zen, I must say... Out of all the various tutorial channels out there, I find you convey ideas and explain things in a way that is just so much easier to understand. Keep up the jamming work man, absolutely adore the videos.

Zen I can't thank you enough for your knowledge and how much it has helped me! One Love & Namaste ✌️😎🤙
It does truly come down to compressing with a purpose, like you said. I haven't seen this method in practice before, but I'll do some experimenting with it and see how that plays out. Excellent video, keep up the great work (I know it's been a few months since this was uploaded but still).
Love you bro! Thanks for amazing vids and keeping me motivated!
Legend
All i can say is wow!!! One of the best if not the best compression vids out there. I get it now.

Always learning something from your tutorials!
You're the first person who helped me to understand compression better, instead of just someone who turns knobs around...
You are doing a great job dude! Really helped me out so much 👍👍👍
Very, very nicely explained Zen, props to you sir 👏👏👏👏
This was very helpful thank you!
Thanx for the effort of the tutorials !
Great method! Will be using this in my future productions for sure

Finally someone explaining and showing how the compressor works in a way that I actually understand.
This tip helped me understand Compression better. ❤
Thank You Bro So Much! HELPFUL!
Love You and your tutorials brah. keep posting banger videos
VERY BIG THANKS TOO YOU. I always knew about parameters of comp, but always was difficult to know from which parameter to start best. Now I know :)
Thanks ninja master. You are good teacher.👍👍

After this video, I had to sub!!! Thanks for the info.
great videoo thanks zen
Hey Man, Congratulations your channel is very good, your relaxed way makes the content more interesting, keep it up, success for you.
Finally a compressor tip that’s convenient. I must admit that I admire you and I learn a lot from your tutorial video’s. The comedy video’s are also great btw. Are you considering to continue the You Know Your An EDM Producer If... video’s? I would really appreciate it. Sometimes it’s fine to take some heavy pressure from ourselves by watching such video’s. Best, Emiel.
The craziest thing to me is that I’ve been watching you since I started producing which was two years ago and my songs are insanely better now. My mixing, my productions, EVERYTHING. Zen when I make it I am going to shout you out with out a doubt man. Love your stuff. Cheers.
- Gaspar
If you make it
Fuck that dude ^ hope you’re still following your dreams.

Dope video and tips!!!!
Thank god I found you.
Wish you were working on FL studio though, but everything can still be transcribed on there, concepts are concepts regardless of DAW...
Thank you !!!
Always good tutorials
Amazing. Thanks man. I guess if your put a spectral analyzer you can find the frequency of the beater
Thankyou zen world❤ ❤love from india northeast❤
Real talk, your boy is gonna be a future model. He's got that face. Good genes
I finally understood why and how to compress drums , I usually don't do that. But basically the use of this compression is like a kind of a gate
thank you so much
Zen is a mad scientist
Oh boy I understand compression a lot but that click on the kick is superb.
Yes for me thank you
Zen for president
2023, currently decompressing 😎🖤🍭
Best tutorials in the game
thanks man!
Great Video! THX! What do you think about "Slate Digital" plugins ?
Thank you
Cool approach, thank you. Mr. Bill shared a cool tip as well which can be used in conjunction with you tip, to mathematically set your release time. Look up "Mr. Bill - Ableton Tutorial 57: A Mathematical Approach To Sidechain Compression".
thanks this helped me out a lot!!!!! but you said this also helped you out with reverb and delay if you got time please show us ...thanks

It's the Swedish House Mafia WOOOOP
Zen World
Where did you find the woop tho? I want to set is as my notification sound now 😅
Benas Stašaitis It's available in like every single sample pack out there. Is it even swedish house mafia woop? Or did they just use the sample and become famous first?
Great vid btw
the attack and release is great! but i still don't understand the threshold and ratio...like how much of the threshold and ratio should i use i don't know if my squashing the audio and stuff
Hahahahahaha so cute! Very helpful too
"This one has more of that thump, more *sheep noise* and this one is more like 'pah'"
Thanks Zen
Thx bro ❤️
But when should I use compression for an edm beat?
Great tip Zen :-)
What song is in the outtro?? It sounds great!
i have a question...IS there A right or wrong when you move the knobs !
say if i like it how it sounds but knob is just set at random !
will that affect the actual kick/drums or is there no right or wrong on compression?
hey! awesome video! please, what is the name of the outro song in your video? does anybody know? thanks!!
thx for this one, this full threshold tips is the Best way to ear how Sounds this or that Comp. Here in my work flow i grouped 2 Comp in a ableton rack, the first one is called TRANSIENT , with fast attack and fast release settings calibrated from 0,1 to 50ms for the attack and for release to 500ms as max value. The second Comp called BODY calibrated from 50 ms to max for the attack and from 100 ms to max for the release... Each Comp with make up gain swiched off are linked to 4 macros controlling threshold, ratio, attack & release ( and the rack is also the simplest way to calibrate each compressor)... This double Comp rack is set by default on my audio track, that way i have Quick access to lower the attack or the body of a track, in the case i need a more general settings like a gentle glue setting, i just switch on one Comp depending on what the source or group of tracks to be glued needs. Thx
JIDEH HIGH ELEMENTS feel like posting a download link for your rack ?

Legend !!! Thank you :)
In my opinion (I'm not too much of a technical producer), I don't compress audio such as Kicks or Snares, simply because I normally feel they don't need it. But yeah, great tutorial :D
It's kinda backwards because the sample you start with is a heavily compressed one. If you use "flattened out" sample like that one you don't really need to compress them and could work with an EQ or layering to get the punch effect you went for. To get a compressor to do more for you pick a sample with a sharp transient and then follow this or any other compression techniques.
Zen world, I produce future bass. I understand compression but am confused what not to compress. I’m compressing vocals, my synths and my saws for the drop, the kick. But do I need to compress my piano from keyscape or my guitars?? What about sub??
First I make a track and complete arrangement render into stamps those have no EQ and compression just only volume balancing then after by seeing the waveform of every element I decided that if it's need compressor or not if some waveform have so much variation on volume so it's time to compress it
Dude, you looked like you were about to tear up at the end.
Love the 8th note beep beep Sutter
Maximus is a dynamic multiband compressor with several graphing modes to see what it's doing to your sound.
Widely acclaimed as the best compressor for drums...
...VST $189 but free with FL Studio
Can you please put all of the songs that you do in UA-cam in SoundCloud please
good video, thank you :)
Ya le entendí mejor :D thanks for the tip :)
I wish FL had that same compressor, I cant do that with Fruity Limiter
Just got the compressor properly...
Glad it helped my dude. Let us know how it goes
How to compress bass to give it an even volume would be helpful.
Watch this for surely :) even future hous emusic label suggest this video.
